Thankyou for showing us your favorite collection of engines. I just started a little late I must add. But I am enjoying what I have so far.I hope to see more of your shows. P from Alberta Canada.
Best early locomotive was an Athearn Blue Box "Super" F7. After having some Bachmans and Tycos, that locomotive was a revelation. Secondly: an ancient Penn Line K4 is a more recent get. Love it. Lastly, a Hobbytown/Cary Loco Works Alco S2; talk about a brute!
My favorite is my new brass Hallmark Fairbanks-Morse H12-44. Second on the list is my Mehano #4501 Southern Crescent Limited MS class Mikado which is the last of its class. It's also a smoker and I use it to pull all my Southern Crescent Limited coaches. I did get a nice haul of HO trains for Christmas. 1 Atlas RS-3 Central of Georgia, 1 brass Hallmark Fairbanks-Morse H12-44 Central of Georgia, 4 Central of Georgia freight cars (1 very nicely detailed Kadee freight car) & 3 MOW maintenance of way freight cars (1 kitchen freight car, 1 maintenance freight car & 1 working caboose) all of which are by True Scale. Day after Christmas (birthday present) I got another Atlas Fairbanks-Morse H15-44 Central of Georgia. Since I used to live in Jonesboro, GA, I model the Central of Georgia Railway Company. Cheers from an ex-Georgian in eastern TN
My favorite? It has to be the Athearn F-7, the heavyweight version made with the added heavy internal weight than makes the F-series feel like it can pull pounds of railcars behind it. Add the Walthers detail kit to it and you have a supreme pulling loco with just enough detail to make it look like a custom model and have several F-7's on the railroad and you have a decent 1950's diesel transition model railroad. Of course, on my road I still have plenty of steam locos because my road couldn't afford to scrap all its steamers to buy those new-fangled diesels, but the writing is on the wall, so-to-speak! 😉
I recently discovered that the valve gear sets for the newer Bachmann 0-6-0 locomotive (green one and other variants) ...they can also be fitted to the 1st and 2nd generation of these. They basically fit the same way, except a tiny bit of sanding to the peg that fits under the boiler sides is needed. bachmann said they wouldn't fit or work as good replacements for the older gens...pfft. If i got mine resurrected ,so can anyone else, lol.(Just don't lose the spacers in the old drive rod sets...those you will need though)
