Giovanni is a masterpiece: Kanami's genius writing, of course; but also the way everyone holds all of these themes and layers together. Miku heard it all this as a story, specifically "Milky Way Railroad" by Kenji Miyazawa. It's a pretty surrealistic and ultimately sad novella (rhere is an anime version of the original, as well as a graphic novel). The way I interpret Miku's lyrics, they are the roller coaster reflections of Giovanni on the death of his friend Campanella, with lots of stops, starts, and changes, much like the galactic train of the novel.
I think this is a masterpiece and one of my favorites of the album. Perfectly controlled progressive chaos. Oh, and the instrumental is simply mind blowing.
Giovanni is a Burner for sure, very progressive. Most of this album was weird to me when it first came out but until I purchased and listened to it over and over and over it's just a masterpiece. The girls always push themselves up to and beyond their immediate talent for more...more...more!! Hope you get tested for covid, your symptoms are concerning. Music can wait, your health is priority, get better.
Definitely their most unique song. Not boring. I love the 2d breakdown section where Kanami plays the rock and roll riff (actually I really have no idea what the song structure is...in my mind it has 5 sections speed chaos, jazz, speed chaos, rock, speed chaos). There is an instrumental CD for UW and pretty much all the songs work great as instrumentals.
Imagine Miku getting handed this from Kanami and being told, " Okay, make lyrics for it." Miku is a lyrical genius that doesn't get the credit she deserves!
This song is so experimental for them. I really didn't like it at first. It felt so chaotic, it was so unconventional, the structure was everywhere. I couldn't tell what was the chorus or what was considered a verse or bridge or whatnot. What helped me appreciate the song was watching Ryan Mear's reaction to it, as he immediately loved it and it helped open up a new way of appreciation for me. I would suggest checking his reaction out for this song!
That is one of the things I really love about BAND-MAID, not only can they play totally different styles of rock but in so many cases, they use different styles in the same song. Simply mind blowing, never knew a band to do that much less make it all in a way that makes it so pleasing to my ears. And so you know......I had to listen to Revolution No 9 several times before I could really appreciate it. lol
Sorry to hear you're unwell. My first reaction to Giovanni was similar to yours, and I wasn't even ill at the time. It's one of three songs, along with Different and H-G-K, that started out near the bottom of my list of favourite Band-Maid songs but is now near the top. The instrumental version helped a lot. For a while I felt the vocals were a layer too many, but I'm now very happy they're there. Get well soon.
Listening to any of these instrumental tracks they offer and you'll find depths of complexity that aren't immediately obvious with the vocals present. Only a few began as true instrumentals which then had lyrics written afterwards (usually at Saiki's request). This is just how Kanami seems to approach her composition and song writing.
Well, that should have been a little injection of energy, right? :) That they added lyrics to this is something that still surprises me today. Amazing job by our little pigeon and the Queen. :) The instrumental video shows and lets you really hear how crazy the song actually is. I'm already looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the finale of this album. 🤭🔥🤘🏻 Gute Besserung und die besten Grüße! _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊
I love the song. It took me some time to get my head around it, but I think it is a great song. Very experimental for Band-Maid. If they decide to add more experimental songs...... experimental for Band Maid, at least..... I will not complain. I love this album. I have been a Maidiac since 2017 and "Unseen World" is my favourite album. Love all that came before and after, but as a "single" release, Unseen World is my favourite. Just a note..... The last 2 songs just continue on the same path as the others before. I predict that Unseen World will become your new favourite Band-Maid album.
Thank you for your reaction. This one, like Black hole, sorry for the spoiler, really tests the one trying to understand it. It is great but it combines many aspects of music. I’m thinking, welcome to the Unseen World, and it seems like they really mean it. :)
I love this song. Kanami's writing is brilliant all through Unseen World, but here she really shows her potential. She's not completely mature yet, songs like this are still rough around the edges, but one day she will be among the best. I hope Band Maid keeps moving in different directions to make that possible.
Maybe you need a context to appreciate what the song is. Giovanni is a character from a fantasy book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_on_the_Galactic_Railroad The song is in a specific point in the story. Other maidiacs that know more can tell in detail.
I hope you feel better soon. When I first heard this song I was like "What the hell is this"? But listening to the instrumental version made me appreciate the song more, somehow. Now I love both versions and give huge credit to Miku for putting lyrics to this amazing song. Peace.
Great reaction! Pretty much mirrors mine when I first heard Giovanni. It's very experimental - all the dissonance, seemingly unrelated sections, and mass insanity - but some of the ideas they were playing with here get expressed in more mature forms on the Sense single and Unleash!!!!! EP. At this point I enjoy some sections and tolerate others. I don't care for the straight speed sections, but the first off-beat section is amazing. I hope you feel better soon.
Its so impressive how they ventured into this genre and as much as love it. im not really dissatisfied if they NEVER come back to it. this album is absolutely insane.
Yes, Kanami is definitely more like Salvador Dali than Edgar Degas. More like Wendy Carlos than Diana Krall. Feel free to add your own comparisons below... 🙂
I really like the second half of this song The first half seems very cluttered almost like they had a bunch of ideas and through them at a board the ones that stuck they used discarding the ones that fell to the floor but this is just the first listen so we'll check it out some more
Ha Ha another song where any band would say we have an idea for an album and Band Maid say this is enough for one song. Been looking at the lyrics of some of the early Miku album led lyrics. Some of them really are worth a deep dive. Band Maid just doing Band Maid. Hope you feel well soon. Take two Band Maid songs with every meal and you should be ok.
Gute Besserung !! The best is yet to come. He He. And this was not the fastet Song on the Album. In the istrumental Version you can really hear the different Instruments and what they are playing, what Kanami plays is crazy and Akane is going off ! BTW from the instumental Version is for every Maid a Video. You can see only Misa the whole Song or only Akane etc.
The second video is to help musicians learn to play their song. It does not have all the flourishes they add, or the studio mixing, I think. Kind of a bare bones version. Just my opinion.

Mincho-mode, and I love prog :)

That's Miku-chan's genius! Everyone is blown away how Miku was able to insert lyrics into this song.
Imagine Miku getting handed this from Kanami and being told, " Okay, make lyrics for it." Miku is a lyrical genius that doesn't get the credit she deserves!
One of my favorites and probably the most impressive on many levels. It's just a proggy piece of brilliance!

I am now 3 years in with this band. I am here until the end.
Definitely the most progressive song of their IMHO. Wait til you hear Without Holding Back as well. Kanami is not a songwriter she's a composer
This album is so experimental and evolutionary for the maids.

This song, and the whole album, made me see them in a different light. They are artists of the highest order.
I like the instrumental more. Thanks react-O-mat! Get well soon!

The title is definately fitting 😉
I love Maid Music. It's my favorite genre! Thx, Benedikt!
Two different songs done this way! The instrumental version is my favorite from Band-Maid, ever! Love both versions, though!

Didn't know about this, thanks!

The instrumental is so cool but then you add the lyrics and the melody her voice is adding just totally changes the song like its a whole new song.
Gute Besserung🤧✌
Nice reaction, for me one of the best Songs (with 30 others) from Band Maid.
I play Guitar, but this song is unplayable for me,to fast😅
Yes, Kanami is definitely more like Salvador Dali than Edgar Degas. More like Wendy Carlos than Diana Krall. Feel free to add your own comparisons below... 🙂
more Kurt Vonnegut than John Steinbeck...
@@surfingasongwave Yes! Very cool.
What is it? It is Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things! 😄
I'll always vote for the instrumental on this one. Peace. 826
great video dude
This is one of the 'White Room' recordings, where you can watch individual videos of each of the maids for the whole song. All well worth a look.
I have to listen to this song a few times to get used to it. Take care and get well soon. Cheers !
I have a 40-years old Trabant, it has a sticker: "Ich bin energiesparer!" I took it off! LOL
I really like the second half of this song The first half seems very cluttered almost like they had a bunch of ideas and through them at a board the ones that stuck they used discarding the ones that fell to the floor but this is just the first listen so we'll check it out some more

Thanks a lot my guy! 👍
B gute Besserung! Liebe Grüße von Hamburg❤
Miku has stated that she waits until the song is finished, then she writes the lrics.

Poor Giovanni seems to have an open account with Bandmaid. Maybe "Ciao bella" was a little too cheap for them. 😁
The second video is to help musicians learn to play their song. It does not have all the flourishes they add, or the studio mixing, I think. Kind of a bare bones version. Just my opinion.
is it actually a jojo reference or not?
Bandmaid I think can play any style of music that they choose!❤ Country music next?😮😂
Well, “No God” live acoustic is very close to country music in certain parts 😄
