Ahhh Warhammer 40K Space Marines. The original Spartans. I wouldn’t be surprised if Master Chief was at least a little inspired by them. Been a big fan of Halo and WarHammer 40K since I was a kid.
So to sum it up:Fun campaign that doesn't require weeks of your time to finish. Enjoyable co-op to dick around in with friends. Multiplayer with simple, but very polished gameplay loop. That's it. That's the Halo I've wanted for the last ten years.
I would say when it comes to the Bulwark (with a lot of hours in it now) the shield is incredibly narrow version of the Heavy's one. It's there to protect and block all shots to get you into the fight but only from the front. If you can even get a slight angle or outflanked there is no way to save yourselfso it rewards positioning and keeping en eye on the map. Being able to hold a chokepoint with two heavy bolters slamming you while your Brothers are taking the outflank or potshots or diving to cover someone that's low was some of the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game for a long time. Even when I get caught out I'm having fun!

Emps is definitely an ‘ends justify the means’ piece of shit and a terrible dad but it’s 40K so even the good guys suck. Though the psykers being fed to him every day might agree that he is evil lmao
I know he isn't familiar with Saber interactive but this game doesn't really have a PvP mode. The campaign is stellar, a love letter to every 40k fan. Operations is the corr game mode and the heart of the game. PvP is there. That's it. Saber isn't going to support this mode. They never do this and they genuinely suck at PvP. Which I am fine with. So know what are you getting into. Also since when did Saber worked on Halo? They made World War Z and Space Marine 2 runs on the same in house engine. Did he make this up?
Can I just say that a World Eaters Khorne berserker with a grapple hook is just nightmare fuel! XD Also for someone new to the setting you were already playing legions in combat styles akin to what they favour. I love to see this! I haven't been able to play yet but I am a long time fan of the setting and the opportunity to act out some seriptitious Alpha Legion or tenebrous Night Lords plays highly appealing! Also I did not know that ex Halo devs worked on this so no wonder it's awesome! :D
Having just watched the Jackfrags multiplayer stuff the style of play between him and Mint is really interesting, Frags being a bit more tactical and using corners well Mint just flies and people die. Just really cool to see their different styles in this great game!
Anyone else notice how in PvP customization, locked armor sets say that wins in eternal war AND operations unlocks the items? Makes me feel like the progression for cosmetics was supposed to be combined.
It literally is combined. Your wins are split between PvP and PvE so if you need 5 wins to unlock an item you can get 3 wins in PvP and 2 in PvE or something like that.
I haven’t really played any multiplayer games for a couple years but I found my self asking my friends when we can play online together for the first time in forever
Honestly one of the most pleasant games ive played in recent years. We need more games like this that don't feel like they're trying to absorb every moment of your time and wallet. it's just a nice well crafted high quality experience, designed for gamers, and not for investors.
Thanks for the vid Mint! I've never played games in the Warhammer 40000 universe, but this looks awesome. Glad to see some of the developers are from halo before, it really shows. I'll be sure to check it out!
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is my game of the year now after I played it for days. I like Halo and Master Chief, but Warhammer 40K is always my favorite Sci-Fi universe. For Ultramar! For the Emperor, brothers.
I was under the impression that Saber only worked on the Campaigns for the Halo CE and Halo 2 Anniversary, and it was Certain Affinity that worked on the multiplayer (the Halo Reach Anniversary map pack and Halo 2A Multiplayer). So the only multiplayer Halo game Saber worked on was Halo Online. Honestly shocked the ceo never mentioned Gear of War because the PVP gameplay screams og gears gameplay to me.
Also Saber Interactive's work on Halo remasters is kind of big mixed bag by somehow borking the original versions (Basing it on the Gearbox and Vista ports). It was basically Splash Damage that went the extra mile to fix things.
Just show u how far gaming as a hole has fallen, if we get super hyped for a game that's finished at lunch and has unlockable in game don't get me wrong game's badass but back when the OG game launched it was a dime a dozen, also a great game
I'd love if you gave Helldiver's 2 a full review like this. The new update has made the game a ton of fun. Glad to see you branch out and play some other games that are less frustrating/disappointing then Halo is currently.
There is one slight problem with the game's matchmaking: At the conclusion of every match, unless you cancel matchmaking, you're matched with the exact same players you were with in the previous game. On one hand, this means that if you lose a game, you will go on a losing streak where it seems like no matter what you try, you cannot win. On the other hand, if you win a game, odds are you will go on a winning streak that only ends when the good players on your team exit matchmaking. This allows you to manipulate the game by simply leaving matchmaking between matches until you are placed on the winning team. I have to admit, it does feel good to be able to manipulate the matchmaking algorithm in this way (for one thing, it makes it very easy to unlock armor for each of the 6 classes if you can get a winning streak) though I would like them to take measures to prevent players from going on those never-ending losing streaks. Also, I've been stuck playing as Heretic Astartes for the last 35+ games. I unlocked every single armor set for my Sniper class, and not once did I get to play as Adeptus Astartes. It's boring playing as Heretics since you cannot customize their armor except for colors and emblems. I'll probably start unlocking armor for another class soon... and when I do, I hope I get to play as regular space marines, and not heretics. That's really something that should change every other match.
Can't say I have had any issues with not being able to leave a lobby for multiplayer. For me the issue has been when my friends lose connection we usually all have to restart the game to be able to group up again. I am sure the server glitches will get fixed over time. Love the game so far. Many hours invested already. So much fun!
Everyone should give this game a shot. I bought it for two of my friends who never heard of Warhammer before so that they would try it. We played through campaign and the operations together and they had a blast.
Been in love with this game. Took a week off for it and absolutely loved the campaign. Haven't touched PvP yet, but I'm loving PvE. Currently have a level 13 Vanguard and an 11 Tactical. Knew nothing of the lore going into this, and now I can't stop looking into it.
Was really hoping you'd cover this it was such a a relief to buy a game for 60 dollars and it be complete but I'm enjoying everything about it pve with my friends is so fun let's go back to paying 60 dollars for a game and everything is already in the game and unlockable
The big problem is that the companies get so big that they worry about money so much that then they start adding in the microtransactions to try and keep up with their growth. The reason why smaller developers are better is because they focus more on not messing up and keeping to the wants of the community so then people are having fun and they make a profit. Bigger companies are so big they know most people will blindly buy the next game because they are afraid of changing to something else. Bigger companies worry about profit and keeping up with trying to pay their employees that they make games based around earning themselves more money so they don't have to lay people off, but will also shut down a company that makes games with very good positive feedback and say "we should be like those guys" to the companies with blind followers. Its why when these big companies started out small their games were way better, but since they are so big that they can hardly maintain themselves they stop focusing on quality and just worry about quantity to get the extra buck.
I appreciate is Saber for one thing, is showing off a 1 year roadmap. Free content/updates, new enemy/enemies and weapon(s). I forgot what else. Their season pass, I know some won't like anything regarding passes, it's(at the moment)all just cosmetics which is totally fine. Though, it worries me if GW or whomever decides to change something. For now, its just wait and see
yeah space marine 2 is pretty solid but i still have my critiques, tldr overall not really disappointed with the game but it could've done a little more. one thing i noticed is in mp the only way to earn armor and weapons skins is by winning matches, not by kills or even leveling up. You have to win or else you get nothing, except requisition points which are only good for unlocking colors and emblems. another thing is you can't really play solo in operations, just pray no one joins your game. i heard they are fixing it but still kinda annoying they didn't think of this before launch. last thing is they said that ops would be this games pve but they aren't really pve, they're literally just story missions with your own space marine. just like with the solo mode, they will be adding a horde mode later.
I've played the first game and we only had 3 classes. Assault, Heavy, and Light. Just heavy weapons, jump packs, and regular stuffs. This game doesn't give me HALO vibes, it gave me the first game's vibes but more enhanced. The first game came out complete and the PVP may have been a little unbalanced, but it was fun. Saber did a good job inheriting the first game's qualities
Ex halo devs could mean anything. If it isn't the OG 7. The boys in charge i would say i need more than that. You can't just say ex halo devs and think that means something. I knew a guy that helped do merc work for the halo 4 UI. At some point one of these guys could have done the same. Not saying the game is bad.... but don't sell i as halo
Saber interactive is awesome. I love World War Z. Bought it for a few friends just to play coop campaign. So well optimized and buttery smooth. I'm not surprised Warhammer 40k is so enjoyable
This is my GOTY. I cant stop playing the PVP especially. My buddy that I'm playing the campaign with has been busy so I find myself in the the PVP a lot and I am just always itching to get back on it. I personally think all the classes are super fun and viable, I can pretty much do well in all of them. I definitely do NOT want to see any nerfs. If a class is lacking, buff that one a little. But the fact that all are fun and viable is what makes this game so great. No clear meta, no sweaty builds. Just pure fun no matter which class you play. Their roadmap looks very promising too.
For myself the only problems I have with the game so far is the obvious lack of maps for PVP & PVE. The only other nit-pick is for anyone that played Space Marine 1 multiplayer I remember the multiplayer being alot more flushed out than SM2, having survival mode, more maps & wayyy more customization options for your armour at launch.
I love wh40k but I was a halo fan first please do this! Bring back man and grit! Bring back brick! Bring back hot big tity cortana! Bring back the gore and the glory!(gib halo)
They release everything finished. Theres not a crazy amount, but the amount youd expect say 1 of a finished game. Now that its a success, theyre working on expanding things. Campaign, operations, pvp maps and customizations
It honestly looks so badass. And the notes from the devs that specified their intent to keep this a good, non cash grab game solidified it for me. Campaigns need to be more commonplace in gaming
SM2 has actually given me more faith in the Kotor remake. They took over the development of it not too long ago, and hopefully it can escape development hell!
games fantastic, its like going back to the 360 era all over again. just solid fun, doesn't take its pvp to serious. campaign was blast, some of the best scale in a game ever.
Bro Mint x 40k, my life is complete. You have to play Darktide! The lore in SM2 is better, but Darktide’s gameplay reigns supreme. Would be interested to see if you could do an Auric Damnation map ;-)
Ive been loving the pvp definitely my most played game mode since the game launched my only complaints is the lack of crossplay in pvp and the lack of talent trees that you see in Operations other than that utterly fantastic hope they focus a bit more on the pvp content

statement from that CEO/dev actually brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful refreshing thing to hear!
First minute had so much good news i thought you were joking
That's a big stretch for me to believe all these ex halo devs came together to save gaming. I think it's more like some people that worked on this game also worked on other games in their career.
You're right. It's not as grand as that
That's ur takeaway huh? Bet ur fun at parties
@ChiefVince117 I'm just super tired of the toxic positive game reviews where everything is over hyped. There's people making a new game that had worked on other games, that's the story. maybe I'll check it out, maybe not.
@@E-w1z once again ur a sad human, he barely talked about that. The game has been out and everyone agrees it's fantastic. Do u have any credible doubts?
@ChiefVince117 and yes, when the headline and the intro is blatantly false or artifical or overhyped, I doubt the remaining information is honest, fair, and unbiased.
Gears Of Halo Theft auto 5
Gears Yeah but GTA and halo have nothing to do with Warhammer... WTF and Gears is inspired by Warhammer too so
I mean... If it plays well, has a good story and isn't too obsessed with modern audiences and the message, then why not?
@@DESTY-N7you’re not the target audience for this joke
Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long long time…
@@aragingpug1466 Ok i see its a good old halo machinima.. sorry for my misunderstood
It's been almost a year since Warhammer 40k replaced Halo as my favorite sci-fi universe and I'm glad I made the jump. So much quality content out there. I'm looking to play Rogue Trader next.
40k And Halo are definitely both fantastic Sci fi universe but The thing about 40k that gots me hooked is the mystery behind the emperor we really don’t know if he’s secretly evil or not!
Nah bro, true Halo Fans don’t switch up dirty like that, you are a Heresy! Traitor
@@georgelucas8815idk the Emperor refused to become the Dark King when the opportunity presented itself, i.e 5th chaos god, and speaking of chaos they have labeled him the ‘anathema’, and lastly he chooses to sit on the golden throne still knowing he could just get up and walk and humanity would be boned in the process.
They worked on the Aniversaries of CE and 2.
i love the books. waiting for my copy to get here from amazon to start playing
I've been playing SM2 and stopped with Halo. It's so refreshing, but also sad that Halo was robbed.
@@DavidtheFoodie not robbed Halo was killed
@@DESTY-N7 yep
Try Darktide after you’re done with SM2, you won’t regret it
It is, truly one of the best games ever made🤯
A good game but not one of the best games chill
Agreed
@@DESTY-N7 For me mate, for me🫡
it might be one of the best games in 2024
It's really fun but we'll have to wait for QOL updates and DLC before we have that discussion. Its a super solid game for now
Can I just say that a World Eaters Khorne berserker with a grapple hook is just nightmare fuel! XD
Also for someone new to the setting you were already playing legions in combat styles akin to what they favour.
ya kick out 343 and bring back this guy
Having just watched the Jackfrags multiplayer stuff the style of play between him and Mint is really interesting, Frags being a bit more tactical and using corners well Mint just flies and people die. Just really cool to see their different styles in this great game!
Space marine 2 is what halo should have been
Anyone else notice how in PvP customization, locked armor sets say that wins in eternal war AND operations unlocks the items? Makes me feel like the progression for cosmetics was supposed to be combined.
It literally is combined.
Your wins are split between PvP and PvE so if you need 5 wins to unlock an item you can get 3 wins in PvP and 2 in PvE or something like that.
I like that @@somerandomidiot1333
Current Halo devs are more like interpreters trying to translate with only half of the Halo lexicon.
Kinda feels like we're seeing the deaths of the old guard of the industry, all these surprise hits that players seem to love are coming out of nowhere
My next 1000 hour game? I'm pumped. The movement mechanics look sick and the idea of a campaign game... I been looking for something to settle into.
Why tf do a Space Marine need invisibility? 😂 That is the most terrifying jumpscare
Who knew that if Microsoft didn't bear down on a company and pressure them and force them to do certain things, that they can make good games
I love warhammer, try darktide it's grindy pve but teamwork is essential
Thanks for the vid Mint! I've never played games in the Warhammer 40000 universe, but this looks awesome. Glad to see some of the developers are from halo before, it really shows. I'll be sure to check it out!
MintBlitz, do you mind telling me what you are doing in Space Marines 2. Sir, destroying Tyranids.
Favorite space marine chapter?
I like leveling up my gear first so then it becomes more fun playing on lower difficulty while leveling up the rest of your perks
@@mistermeow527 They also worked on the Halo 2 anniversary campaign which is a huge improvement over the CE anniversary.
*FOR THE EMPOROR*
It’s a good game
But unfinished
@@DESTY-N7in what way.
i can smell the follow up video already with the first Qna Released
Can't say I have had any issues with not being able to leave a lobby for multiplayer. For me the issue has been when my friends lose connection we usually all have to restart the game to be able to group up again. I am sure the server glitches will get fixed over time. Love the game so far. Many hours invested already. So much fun!
No emote, no rainbow stuff, no cat ear cosmetics just plain old simple game, simply SIMPLE.
What a SICK looking game! Please Microsoft, give Saber Interactive a chance at Halo!!!
Everyone should give this game a shot. I bought it for two of my friends who never heard of Warhammer before so that they would try it. We played through campaign and the operations together and they had a blast.
When Todd Howard said "it just works" (knowing Bethesda) I think he meant like "it barely works"
I just played co-op missions with someone playing the Halo 2 theme song.
For now, its just wait and see
There is hope!🙏
space marine 2 was awesome but the work these devs did on halo 1 was atrocious they were redeemed tho for this game
yeah space marine 2 is pretty solid but i still have my critiques, tldr overall not really disappointed with the game but it could've done a little more.
one thing i noticed is in mp the only way to earn armor and weapons skins is by winning matches, not by kills or even leveling up.
Imagine the flood moving like the enemys this in a halo game.
3:40 Its crazy Kotaku and some other SJW's are trying to smear Sabre about what the CEO said.
feature complete...imagine that..
Not typically big on 3rd person combat but I did get into the war for cybertron series back on 360. This game is giving me those vibes. Looks fun
Excited for more warhammer videos.
Please please please let this be a second golden age of gaming 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Loved their game World War Z and love their game Space Marine 2. 🔥🔥
My only complaint is I wish the campaign was about 3-5 missions longer.
It honestly looks so badass. And the notes from the devs that specified their intent to keep this a good, non cash grab game solidified it for me. Campaigns need to be more commonplace in gaming
Not to mention no politics in the game, just pure entertainment
9:00 oh yea boys we are back to peak gaming where we can have someone named "The GAY Marine" and "Mr. Fent" on the same team
Looks good. Gameplay reminds me old school Gears of War and classic Halo.
Could you play some more SM 2 ? I feel like Halo is experiencing a drought where as the warhammer 40k community would love to have you 💕
Ive been loving the pvp definitely my most played game mode since the game launched my only complaints is the lack of crossplay in pvp and the lack of talent trees that you see in Operations other than that utterly fantastic hope they focus a bit more on the pvp content
The original is still awesome too. Pretty healthy base of newcomers due to SM2 coming in. A sinplified version of things, but still really fun.
This is what I want from gaming, passion over greed!😃
