Spaten will always have a special place in my heart since it was the tent where I actually got a seat at a table inside (and I wasn't early) during the 2019 Munich Oktoberfest (my first-but hopefully not last-visit to Oktoberfest).

My first babysteps into darker beers, happened at a local beer festival.
Most of the tents were sampling IPA's, which I don't care for, so whenever I saw one that was different, I went out of my way to sample those first.
One of the tents had a Dunkel (Sadly, I don't remember their name), I tried it and it was fantastic, I went back at least 3 times for more.

In the past, not every beer was dark. They had air-dried malts that were very light. The color of the beer has often been described as being similar to wine.
Broyhan (a German beer style), for example, was a light beer that had been brewed since the 18th century.
