I didn’t watch the flight at the end because I was doing dishes but based off the music it flies like an 80s action movie!
lol, i do love my 80's action movies for sure. Part of the reason for my 5 year quest, to obtain the vintage seiko diver model that Arnold wears in Commando and Predator. +10 arnold quoted while wearing it.
And here I was planning the next 3" or 3.5" since I fly in small areas. Now I'm looking at the 4". Thanks you for the great content!
Fantastic flying and review, Jon!!! 😃
Pretty nice looking frame!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks Mc. You too sir!
Looks like you have a blast!
Thanks! Definitely love this hobby
Great video, been running almost identical setup on 6s. Love it
I noticed the screws too!..lol I picked this up when it first released. I'm running the BH 2004/3000kv motors and it does fly Awesome! Good little review!
thanks allen!
Awesome video. I have a apex 4” and Babyhawk 2 and your take on muscle memory and flying the same quad is so true never thought about it
hey thanks a lot! And yep, if you watch the pros show up to a shooting gig, or watch any top racers, you see they have 3-10 of the exact same quad that they have been practicing with. One breaks? Pull out another identical so muscle memory is still intact.
nice video. Because of you I chose this frame for my first drone.
it's going to be a weird build^^ I plan to use the Foxeer Datura 1507 2750KV 4-6s and i somehow managed to install the SpeedyBee F405 V3 BLS 50A 30x30 Stack in to the frame. now i have to wait for my walksnail avatar VTX and some other parts to finish the build...
Nice. That sounds like a fun build. Should feel really nice and be pretty light weight
Love the 4" class. Got back in to fpv after a 7 year break due to time constraints and having babies. Got a novice 4 and loved it. I'm currently running a chimera 4" with 3800kv and its fantastic. Will be my last analog quad since I'm still running my old first gen dominators with foxeer wildfire. I'm gonna just get the dji goggles whenever a new quad comes out that I feel I gotta have.
Moved to digital ?
Still gotta build mine. Great review!
You should! cant wait to see it. Gonna use DJI/ sharkbyte?
@@JonE5FPV Shark Byte of course!
apex 4 rocks mate, its soooo smooth its my fav right now
Wish we could still get these motors, they're perfect.
Biggest issue is no good 4" T mount props for this setup. I'm 287AUW with 450mah 6s (BH1700kv) and now that I've flown the 2Fiddy I think it needs higher pitch props. Hope we get some more options soon now that people are into 2004 motors. I want to try those Lumenier motors though
Man that is a beautiful frame gonna have to build a apex 4” too now! Lol
I’m thinking my flywhoo 2303.5 might work prefect for this 4” build!
Ohhh that does sound like a nice combo
That’s about to be my build!
it is a really fun one.
i had one with 1804.5 motors a while ago before anyone liked 4inch lol like 9 months ago was super fun to rip even when i wasnt as good flying cramed a stack and a vtx and a caddx tarsier in it! and this was when it only had a single 20x20 mounting! i had like 35mm standoffs lmao and a gps
These class of 4” are so much fun. Got a fouride on 3500kv 2204’s for freestyle and a shocker 4” on 2550kv 1806’s for a hybrid freestyle/ midrange. If I could start all over I’d just go 4” everything to keep the costs down.
It really is nice for that exact reason. And so much less noise when you just wanna rip without making a ton of noise
Lol screwed by screws, love it!
Hi jon, nice indepth for this frame. Just got one today. Thanks for that screws information. By the way is this video dvr from nebula pro.?
I do wish that the arms were a bit wider at the motor to protect some 2203 motors
Yeah, 4" is still my favourite. They fly good, so good that the 5" is no longer my reference point :b
🥶
where was this video shot it looks a lot like a place in Houston?
What about the 3inch version of this? anybody like it? how did you spec it out? i've had my eye on it for a while, but i'm reluctant to pull the trigger haha!
for most of these 3", id just as soon get the 4" version, and run 3" props if desired. Id spec out all the components the same, and you really only gain a couple grams on the frame itself.
2600kv is a 6s motor for 4-inch. I think I just cracked the code on drone motor/prop theory, but yeah. 2600kv at 24 volts gives you 62400 RPM (1090fps), which is the hairy limit for the speed of sound at the blade tip of a 4-inch prop. Obviously, it won't actually GET to the full 62400 due to aero drag and weight, but yeah. 2400kv would technically be a little more comfortable at 57600 RPM (1005fps) but it should be fine, lemme watch the video to find out.
Also, anyone who wants to 4s a 4 inch but still get max RPM just multiply those KV ratings by 1.5. So you'd do a 3600-3900kv for 4s 4-inch as the safe peak RPM range.
What amp esc are you using on this? Hoping 25a will be enough for those 2005 2600kv
speedx 20a 20x20. 25a should be good, just use a capacitor to be safe.
I've been looking for a juicy motor but not too juicy. I wish there was a rating system for juicy. Maybe like 2850 KJ.
This is a nice one for sure. It feels very similar to my shocker lite 4”, but this has about 30 grams more weight on this build. So it carry’s the extra weight plus action cam no problem
APEX 4' OR CMW 4' with 2004 on 6s?
I have also a 4inch apex but it's for 6s
For 4", 4s/6s, depends on how you fly, and how much weight you want to carry. I dont fly super punchy on these and i carry a small insta360 go 2, so 4S is fine for me. If you are always punching and sagging your battery, then 6S could be the way to go. From my recent research, a 650mah 6s is roughly the same weight as a 1050mah 4S (about 100-125grams)
Go to 8:37 for JonE5's guide to selecting the perfect 4" from what's offered currently.
ohh, i should release this as a short! Nice find
Hello, i got one question for you. I'm à pilot from France 🇫🇷 and. I love your builds with your 4inch.. I have décided to follow the same philosophy. i built a similar one with à micro apex 4 frame. I got F2203.5 2850kv with speedybee f7 mini. I cannot fly it in 6s without puting à motor output limit at 60%... If not i got a death roll all time.. Any idea ?
Hi Jon, can u suggest what motor that is perfect for freestyle for apex 3 inch...i have xing2 1404 3800kv but its not powerful when i punch throttle....
IMO I really love the emax 1408 for 3”. Check out the 3600kv for 4s
@@JonE5FPV thank you Jon, you are awesome...👍👍👍
Here is some footage flying a similar sized 3” on those motors and some notes

I feel like you have a bit of resonance/jello, do you feel it?
I am planning a build on the QAV-S 4 inch with 1408 motors. Has anyone had any experience with 1408 on a 4 inch instead of 2004/2005?
Yes. Here is 1408 4”. More of a racers style but it will work. Freestyle and DJI adds weight so I’d prefer larger motors but it can work for sure.

@@JonE5FPV Thanks! looks good. I was also going to try out the 3.5 inch babyhawk props, just to see.
I like the stick feel of the 1408 + 4023 better than the 2004. High KV so you have to limit the throttle but the efficiency is better and the acceleration is just mad :)
@@pirateradioFPV Same, I did the build like a day after I posted the comment and its so juicy
how is the resonance on this? sorry if you said it didnt hear it...
pretty dang good, super smooth. The mount, i had wasnt the best, so if any jello in the insta go 2,likely due to that, but i still didnt really see any
@@JonE5FPV awesome thank u just ordered one 🙏🏼
How durable do you find these motors?
None of the 200x size are super durable. These have some thicker bells than the original BH 2004 release, so should stand up to hits a little better (although still wont be as hit resistance of a 2207 size or larger)
@@JonE5FPV thanks for the info. Do you think that 5mm shaft 1804s might fair better? Volume isnt that different... cant find much on either though lol with ultralight parts just now starting to pop up.
@@JonE5FPV Also, does 2600kv really give it oomph? I saw it in the video lol but on 4s coming from a micro guy who usually runs 3500kv it feels different lol...
6s or 4s?
i went 4S with a 1050mah pack
now just give us more selection of 4" t-mount props... what?
I love the 4” hurricane. Works with t mount and nut. Only 4” I use.
Or 5mm shafts . . that's what most of us want. The T-mount is a PITA when you have to switch props often :P
@@pirateradioFPV actually - yes!
Umm just go to a local screw shop and buy whatever length and size you need.
Edit: Disregard, I guess that goes only for guys living in "metric countries".
The M2.5 is annoying AF. I bought a box of screws off Amazon for like $10 to make sure I had plenty search binifiMux 160pcs M2.5 Black Hex Socket Cap Screws
thank you
please a link on Amazon ?
Bro add me on apex legends if u play Holy Gapp
Man I don’t really. But I should start!
