Queen Mary exposed a weakness in this format. One would expect a team that’s losing would display some sense of urgency. Not Queen Mary. Their dawdling over bonus questions may cost Exeter a place in the finals because they didn’t get a chance to answer more questions. It’s painful to watch a losing team ignore Jeremy’s admonition: “C’mon, let’s have it” when they have no idea what the answer is.
The map at 8:34 does not represent where Copenhagen is situated! Very surprised that there is such a blatant error in this show. Copenhagen is further south. Elsinore is closer to where the red circle is.
The small red dot below the white a rrow indicates a northern suburb of the city - Hellerup or Charlottenlund. Helsingør is about 40km further north opposite Helsingborg, Sweden.
I listened to the question, and I know Elsinore Is not a major city. The fact remains: the map does not represent where Copenhagen is. I would know as I live very close and go there by train regularly.
Once again thank you. My only complaint is this. It's wonderful to see this 'extra' series, and always good to have subtitles. But these subtitles are awful!!!! They miss bits, they are wildly inaccurate, and sometimes they tell you the answer before the teams do! You'd think a programme as respected and iconic as UC would have some decent subtitles organised. Still, it's not your fault TM, and thanks again.
I agree with what you mean. The subtitles displayed in the video are mostly auto-generated which is why ther are mistakes.(I have just gone in and made a few changes where there are obvious errors). For the semi-finals and final, I might go in and reorganise the entire subtitles if I have time to do so.
University challenge does have proper subtitles if you watch it on the television or BBC iPlayer. You can hardly expect them to be responsible for illegal uploads to RUclips that they haven't got control over.
Thanks for these posts. I wonder why the subs aren't the proper ones, can someone tell me? Do the correct captions come in an SRT file and have to be uploaded with the video?
I wonder why you British folk need subtitles at all! I'm from India and I can perfectly understand Paxman, the contestants, Tilling, and the audience clapping! Harrumph!
Clearly (as seen before between other teams) Jeremy seemed to have something against Queen Mary, he kept telling them to hurry up; but for the same amount of time never told Exeter. He has done this before with other teams too. Quite unprofessional behavior.

To be fair, I think Exeter was given more time on their answers but they did usually get it right.
Thanks for taking the trouble to post this. I do appreciate it.
It's brass monkeys here in Denton, TX, so good to get a bit mental stimulation. :D
You're very much welcome. Glad you enjoyed these. Didnt realise Texas got that cold.
We've had a sudden freeze this past week, causing temperatures to drop by around 10°C. The worst of it has passed though.
For Christ's sakes get a grip man! You live in Texas, the most manly state in the U.S. Home of Walker, Texas ranger.

That's what I thought too when I saw it for the first time. Thank you for reaffirming my suspicion

If you listen to the question, they were asked to “name this major European city” the closest major European city to the arrow is Copenhagen

Why so many questions revolving round USA? This surely isn’t exported to American networks is it?
Think about it! To Americans we get so many question about Europe so I just think it is the other way around
This one was painful to watch
Hmm I have to admit I'm getting slightly upset by people conferring for starter questions...
I was grimacing through the whole US president audio round.
You could tell it was JFK cause he sounded like Mayor Quimby.
Me, too. I found it astonishingly easy (but that might be because I’m American).
Many thanks, Mr. Macbeth!

@@tybaltmacbeth Happy to help. there are zillions of mistakes. However I am not very tech-savvy!
@@helenswan705 I'm new to RUclips myself so I'm not sure how the whole thing works. Hopefully I can get something going by the next series.

That 25:14 answer was impressive! What would the full question be, is it a quote?

They are generated by an algorithm.
as Antti said, they are automatically generated by RUclips. There are some odd mistakes but it is fine 95% of the time.
I wonder why you British folk need subtitles at all! I'm from India and I can perfectly understand Paxman, the contestants, Tilling, and the audience clapping! Harrumph!
@@varuns9723 Some people have a habit of having subtitles on when watching a movie or tv in general.
The bonus questions for Sidney Poitier movies flet like a repeat question from regular UC.... I swear I remember those questions
Yet you can't remember your real name!
@@MichaelKingsfordGray hello ladies
İs it my imagination or is Paxman slurring his words?
He suffers from Parkinsons, this is his last year hosting the show.

Both Mdm Siegle and Mr Paxman mispronounce Mr Lech Walesa's surname (22:57). Usually, Mr Paxman does not accept an outright mispronunciation.
How does one pronounce your name?
Your REAL name, that is.
