It's a great idea! When I'm painting and see that something just doesn't seem to work or "flow" right with the rest of my shapes or colors I cover those areas up as you did on your canvas and it really helps me see the changes I need to make. Usually end up with multiple layers, Thanks so much for all your help along the way!!
Nick, I am so grateful you are there, inspiring me/us, teaching me/us, sharing your wisdom so freely. It has been a fun ride watching your work change over the years. I am a total fan of your newer looser style. It is such a contrast to your older, tighter, more controlled work, which was lovely, but the new work is so Expansive & Exciting. I do miss your Sunday-in-the-studio sessions where we could watch you painting a large picture. Any chance you will return to giving us that enticing glimpse of you in action? Happy New Year & Thank You!
Thanks a lot for your wonderful vlogs and podcasts Nick! Just this afternoon I painted some busy areas over with a very light blue/green color to create some quiet areas in my painting. Felt soooo good, will see how it’s going to evolve!
U R the only 1 doing this on RUclips. I still don't get ... tryed several canvases and only ended up Gesso over them.😅 thanks for using less of the words ... that's cool. 😊 Happy 2025 Ann, Florida fan

Yes, many, many layers, back & forth of painting on & covering up!
LOVE your work!
Yes, I love painting in many layers. Even if stuff I liked earlier gets covered up. It looks more alive.
I'm learning a lot from you and I'm grateful thank you so much and I wish you the best in the new year.
Liked the last week partially painting over darks / blacks in white.

I paint in a similar way…lots of layers, darks and covered by lighter shapes - until it says, “I’m complete” - it’s enough.

Nice works, nice process! Have you complitly switched to acrylic paints, or you use oil paints as well???
