- Two of the most popular Opera singers at the Met of their day: Alma Gluck and Louise Homer made some wonderful popular records together. Here is a favorite they recorded in 1912 (this is the 1914 repressing).
Henry (dog) settled right in for this one and the cats were milling about too. I never know what they’re going to like!
I like the lyrics:
Oh! That We Two Were Maying
Oh! That we two were maying,
Down the stream of the soft spring breeze;
Like children with violets playing
In the shade of the whisp’ring trees.
Oh! That we two sat dreaming
On the sward of the sheep-trimm’d down,
Watching the white mist streaming
O’er river, and mead, and town .
Oh! That we two lay sleeping,
In our nest in the churchyard sod,
With our limbs at rest on the quiet earth’s breast,
And our souls at home with God.
Music by Ethelbert Nevin (1862-1901).
Text by Charles Kingsley (1819-1875).
Played on a 1914 Victrola IX with a fine Burmese Colour Needle (thorn).

Adorable… ✨✨✨ Not only the two enchanting voices, but also the lovely song… 🌹🌹🌹
And Henry seems to agree, doesn‘t he? 😉 🐕
Thank you for the beautiful post! 🙏🍀 And for adding the lyrics to the info box. 👍
I’m glad you enjoyed this!! I experimented with different needles to see if I could make the lyrics they are singing sound clearer, but to no avail. Ah well. It is a little gem, isn’t it? Henry approved and did not have time to fall asleep during it!😊😊

„Did not have time“ is great! I‘m sure he loved the song and the voices and din‘t mind that the lyrics were a bit difficult to understand. After all, dog essentials like food and long walks weren’t mentioned, so why should he even care? 😉
Ha! Yes, wonderful--this is true❤! Dog essentials were nowhere to be found even if the diction were clearer! Good point😊!

But good taste is good taste - wether dog essentials are involved or not. Henry seems to take after his human friend!!!
@@hrbooksmusic7878 awww. You’re nice. Thanks. Maybe Henry has really good taste for things that taste really good too!😊
