I've been detailing cars since 1993. I'll never forget buying my first book on how to do it. I paid a guy 100.00 bucks and then, that was a lot for a detail and my car looked slightly better than a car wash would look. I couldn't afford that (then) so I had to figure out how to do it, to my level of expectation. I had to got to an actual book store and have it (a book) ordered as something like that wouldn't be in stock lol. I waited a long time to actually buy into Ceramic. It had to prove itself as did Synthetic/Polymer wax. Though detailing was my actual profession (best time of my life) at one point, my swiming pool management, design, and construction skill set proved to be the breadwinner when I needed it to be. I still consistently detailed the entire time, but I'm more of a prove it guy, and it took time to understand ceramic and for it to prove itself, as how it was pitched early on wasn't believable. In recent years, I've done more and more and am in love with it. Though I'm not asking a specific question, I appreciate how you're family runs it's business. You do what works and is proven to work for you and have all the confidence in the world. Though not elderly at all, and fit as can be, I am looking to transition into this full time again as I love it so much. I make a healthy chunk of $$ just doing something I love on the side. I don't need the $$ but I love it and I never let anyone down as I am straight forward like you are. I enjoy your posts, not only from an entertainment standpoint, but from the standpoint of someone that whatever it takes, figures out how to get it done as best it can be within the financial means of the client. I learn from you and appreciate your videos. Thank you for all the posts. They are of help and I really apprecaite it. I wish we lived closer because I'd be willing to be it would be easy to be friends. Thanks again:).
I've been following your channel a long time , I love your videos and ya'll do amazing work. Great job guys . Now if only I could get my wife into detailing LOL
Really? Ok. I did a quick re- coat prior to asking the question. I actually watched that video you linked, when it came out but forgot about it. I will watch it again. Thank your quick response and the excellent videos! Both are greatly appreciated.
When I’ve done these kind of jobs I always also do the panels adjacent to the repair. The insurance company is paying for it anyways and it’s good to be on the safe side because as you know, the last guy to touch it owns the whole job. And because I don’t know what ceramic coating was used I go with the best 5-8 yr rated product I’ve got. Something I wished more coating companies did is to provide a little sticker of what the product is that you can put on the door pillar(like what Gyeon provides). Also, as a tip, write down what product you used on the back side of a business card and put it in with the vehicle owners manual.
There is a new Max coating from McKee's that they advertise that can be used over other coatings, it doesn't matter if they are not from the same company and if they were applied recently or one or two years ago. I did it on one that I had applied a month before (although it was the same brand) because I didn't really like the behavior of water on the original coating. The application was easy (after chemical and mechanical decontamination) and I am happy with the result. Time will tell what the durability will be (the durability announced in the most recent one is 3 years and the previous one that I installed has an estimated durability of 10 years). If this coating does what it offers, it could be a very useful option when you have to work with pre-installed coatings.
Phil I’m a huge fan. Thanks for all the great content. You’re real those are the guys I like to listen to and watch on RUclips. Haha my 3 month almost 4 month old daughter sits there and watches the channel rather then all the garbage cartoons 😂 Future Business woman right there. Take care keep them coming. Appreciate you!!!
Love your channel, Could you do a video dedicated to applying tire dressing with a big flagged tip brush that you use ? I try using them, no matter what i do i still get sling. I wash and brush my tires till the foam is white , apply minimum dressing and still have an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I maintenance wash 3 of these corvettes, always in full sun and one is black! Rough. They are all coated by a friend of mine, but still a royal pain, so many angles n nooks / crannies
Yeah and imagine prepping, polishing and coating them! I'm sure your friend can tell you what a pain that is. I have a friend that has one. So what do you charge for a maintenance wash on one of these?
HI Phil, One thing I have always appreciated about your videos is that you are very much a realist and very practical. I am curious when you use one of your twisted loop drying towels to apply that ceramic topper, do you typically do a presoak with a microfiber cleaner after? Or do you just wash normal and move on with your day? I know what the "right" thing to do is and how to care for them, and I do in most cases, but just cant always. Do you have concerns with using that sealant with a drying towel and it causing the towel to lose its absorbency?
Hi. Thanks. No we usually just hang it up to dry and use it one more time. Never had issues with using topped or sprays like that. Once the towel gets a little damp again the next day it absorbs just fine again.
Phil, I just had to do this today! I found some high spots and used Essence plus and they came out. If a high spot is on a door for instance, do you coat the whole door again or can you feather in the small area that was polished. Thanks for the videos and the all the responses to my questions.
Hi. You don’t have to recoat the area you polished with Essence plus. It didn’t remove the main coating, it just removed the high spot, so you don’t have to worry about redoing the coating. ruclips.net/video/SajbAvVTb_8/видео.html
Hello Phil. Please help. I'm not able to find that Crush Si02 Detailer. And, are those Twisted loop towels called, Twister Jr from the Fiber Factory? I'm interested.
Hmmmm.....looking at the bumper/backside is very intricate. Crazy curves. Another reason to have some sorta mini polisher. On the front hood, I noticed a black area that is gloss black and matte black. (Strange). How would you go about putting a ceramic coating on matte painted area that shares a gloss painted area? Wouldn't a ceramic coating gloss up the matte paint? What a beautiful car! I think you 2 should buy one. Lol. Hi wife.
Hi. Yeah it’s very intricate. Coatings can go right over matte vinyl and not cause it to be glossy at all. I have coated vehicles before with matte pieces and simply go right over them. It doesn’t change the look and cause it to be glossy.
I’m new to learning about ceramic coatings and the process to apply and what the best practices are to get the best results. In the last minute of this video you mention making sure the product is properly applied and then wiped off. I’m a little confused about how it works if you wipe it off after putting it on? Thank you.
Hi. We have tons of videos on applying ceramic coatings. Definitely search out channel for them. Coatings are applied, they sit on the paint for only 10-30 seconds depending on the ambient temps, then wiped off to level the carrier fluids and help it evaporate and leave a glossy slick surface. It. It wipe off properly it will leave wipe mark that need to be repolished.
