How to win as Italy: *change sides* Germany: Hey, that's cheating! Whole allies: oh no no no, Germany. It's historical😀 Germany: YOU HAVEN'T EVEN INVADED THE MED YET
I did not say this in the video, but I never saw anyone make a snake or escape the Italian fleet. Both strategies are my own and seemed to play in a far more lethal manner than otherwise ‘stock’ Italian gameplay.
I've been looking forward to Italy's video! The little evil empire that could! (at least in this game, not in reality, thankfully). A couple of questions: 1. What exactly is a "can-opener?" Is it something like a strafe attack so Germany can have an easier time conquering a certain territory? 2. You went over how difficult it is to conquer France for the Allies? How difficult is it to conquer Italy itself? Since it's so weak, it could be the nation you go after first (KIF).
1) I’ll just also add that a can opener can also be the removal of a blocker (single infantry) which then allows tanks to hit the territory or territories behind it on Germany’s turn. I actually would say the above description is a ‘strafe attack’ but “to-may-to to-mah-to”. 2) it’s even more simple than France given that usually only one power is shucking into SZ 12 so there are less transports to threaten Italy the territory. More of this will be covered in the USA/UK video.
I do recall the duce's fleet often being displaced or destroyed, it can be built up but without victory it assures a very weak Italy. I just realized, the first edition A&A classic Commander in Chief rules should be explored with a 3rd axis player to spice things up.
Great video! Thank you! Have a question about the Italian snake strategy. To create the “snake” is Italy required to focus buying primarily infantry every round? What about other units? Tanks, artillery, and air?
For its creation, yes it’s probably best to spam infantry the first several turns at least. But it might be best envisioned as a scorpion, with the business end aimed at the Soviet Union. And in that case and eventually, having one or more fighter/armor units towards the east makes a nice “stinger” and provides a “can opener” option for Germany.

Looking forward to the Allies now.
I have played many anniversary games on board. But never used (or heard of) the Italian Snake until this video. Mind 🤯

@@thegoodcaptain1217 Using the Italian fleet to help secure middle earth - nice! Again, I never thought of this.

As the Axis, can you secure the Suez canal and move a fleet through it in the same turn?
No. Both side must be under control at the start of your turn. Page 7 under canals.
