- How to Punch Grass with Jacob Wheeler. A popular Bass Fishing technique that involves punching an artificial lure through thick vegetation that Bass use as cover to feed underneath. One of my favorite fishing techniques that can produce giant bass in the warmer months of the year.
real ,enjoyed being there with you.
Just went to chickamauga this Friday and Saturday was my first ever fishing trip and loved that lake got 9 solid fish and got my Pb out of chick she weighed 5 pounds even. I got the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Ben Hayes and he had nothing but good things to say about you when we were on the water for my 8 hour guide trip. Keep up the great content!
That’s awesome! Great job buddy any pics?

Thanks for the video, always cheering you on.
Thank you for the tips...enjoying your channel...there’s a lot of places here in NC to try these techniques...”Keep reel’n’em in brother! It don’t get no gooder than this!”
Yeah no problem man I hope you have good luck in your pursuits!
U r a bad ass bud to fallow for different techniques and advice fish on bro!!!🎣🎣
Thank you!
Always good stuff!
Believe it or not I do quite a bit of punching here in central OK. We have alot of large city managed ponds with GIANTS and most are natural with alot of vegetation in them, coontail, hydrilla, milfoil etc...and when they start seeing every spinnerbait and buzzbait made those fish get right up in the middle of the matted stuff. Had to use a 2oz at one point just to get through. I LOVE THOSE BITES!!
Saw you on the chick a few times wheeler.hope to see you out there again!
For sure man I'm sure you will
Just a thought for content. You can film urself fishing with ur fans where they live and it dont have to be with a boat, but meet them where they r at and teach and chat with ur fans. Im pretty sure many would love to see that.being human with other humans lol. Once a month to travel out to a fan for just fun enjoyable content. You r one of the best bass fishers. Many could learn.😉 just a thought lol
Love you dog. Have one chocolate and one yellow lab of my own. Appreciate the info too.
Makes me feel better that 6:20 This even happened to the pros. Broken lines, tangles etc.
Thanks Jacob! Quick question... the grass I fish is so thick that I have to pick a bunch of grass off my lure every time I reel it back in. How come that wasn’t happening to you?
Edrick Pirveysian since this was Texas rigged I made sure to keep the hook buried inside of the plastic. I was using a 1 oz weight. It also might be the type of grass you are fishing some types of grasses are thicker than others.
@@WheelerFishing Thanks so much!
I do a lot of bank fishing because I don’t have a boat so any tips for bank fishing would be great
I need to do this on caddo lake.
Great vid and thanks for the tips! Sometimes I lose fish when punching. Do you ever punch mats or lily pads with a jig?
Yeah
we live at amistad in texas clear water what color would you use
Hey Jacob! My dad knows your dad and I would really like to go fishing sometime
Say Dawg,What rod & reel are you using? EXACTLY! Thanks!
Do you have any brakes set on the reel and just control the line with your thumb? I feel like my reel is not loose enough to feel fall into the grass.
No brakes at all normally
So did you purposely remove the the first eye on your rod or did it just break off at some point?
Must have just broke off, didn't notice lol
Jacob Wheeler Fishing ok thanks I have that rod and it is the only one I have seen with an eye that close to the reel and wasn’t sure how it affected casting
Is that a 1oz tungsten weight?
I will be using this technique soon with a V&M wild craw! #RippinLipsInc. On You Tube!
Awesome!
Best way to make sure your braid doesn't slip is to tie the knot by doubling your line. NEVER slips.
Hey Jacob will your 7'6 heavy rod be okay for punching? I got the 7' mh, and now I need a rod I can punch with.
Lighter punching yes I would say you should be fine up to a 1oz weight
What is that sound at 7:38
Will Sonetz haha I make the sound with my mouth then the video cuts to a few seconds later where I’m actually leaning into a fish 😎
Gotta use that braid, dont lose those hooks
What is that lens on your gopro?
Nice Vid btw! Keep it up!
it's just a protective cover for the 4's
figured since i was flipping it might need a little extra protection :P
@@WheelerFishing haha right one can't ever tell when a big Ole chunk of tungsten gonna come flying! Haha just wanted to see if it was maybe polarized!
Where’s that Duckett rod?
This was before I started using Duckett
Buzzbait video!!!!!
Thank you how’s major league going
