45:58 Yeah I gotchu Grant. The word dragoon (which originally referred to the European mounted infantry unit) does probably come from, specifically, the French word dragon. It means exactly what you think it means. The word first popped up at around the early 17th century. The name's origin likely derived from the type of musket they commonly adopted. There also exists conflicting explanations on the 2nd possibility; some claim the name is derived from the dragon head decorations they would fix on the weapons, while a minority derive the name from the weapons' fire-breathing imagery. A small number of sources claim the word was derived from this type of infantry's notoriously draconian disposition toward peasants. This is consistent with the word's verb-form meaning (to subjugate), but the verb-form's first known uses range around the late 17th century, suggesting an expansion of the word's meaning based on its already-existing noun-form definition, rather than the other way around.
For some reason I remembered it thanks to the origin of the name Dracula, which is weird since whilst both derive from dragon they're in different languages. 45:58 There already is a comment on dragoon and dragon's etymology, but I want to show you the complete etymology of these words (excerpts from Wiktionary): Dragoon: The noun is borrowed from French dragon (“dragon (mythological creature); type of cavalry soldier, dragoon”) (originally referring to a soldier armed with the firearm of the same name (sense 1.1)),[1] ultimately from Latin dracō (“dragon; kind of serpent or snake”), from Ancient Greek δρᾰ́κων (drákōn, “dragon; serpent”), possibly from δέρκομαι (dérkomai, “to see, see clearly (in the sense of something staring)”), from Proto-Indo-European *derḱ- (“to see”)). Doublet of Draco and dragon. Dragon: From Middle English dragoun, borrowed from Old French dragon, from Latin dracō, dracōnem, from Ancient Greek δράκων (drákōn, “a serpent of huge size, a python, a dragon”), probably from δέρκομαι (dérkomai, “I see clearly”). Displaced native Old English draca a doublet of dragon, so too are Draco and dragoon.

This first mission made me realize if the zerg spread creep via flying queens who spit a creep tumor that upon landing has no model, cant be selected, doesn't spawn new tumors & is invulnerable, i would like the creep spread mechanic way more. Like a permanent version of dewiradu(?)'s creep spit spell from 7 player hots coop but on a flying spellcaster
Would be stupidly OP if there was no way to remove it. Even if it's just painted creep without the tumor granting vision it could still be used to permanently block non-zerg players from expanding. WC3 had something vaguely similar but fair: Undead structures spread Blight and require it for placement, but other races can build on Blight and their structures dispel Blight upon completion. Items can place a patch of unbound Blight, and area dispels can remove any Blight not near an active source. This wouldn't work too well in Starcraft though because there is no established framework of AoE dispels or comparable mechanics for other factions to get rid of the creep.
@@Photoloss it could technically be done since in coop you can build on creep and in Memes of liberty the hellion cleared the creep faster so maybe combining those into one and applying it to every non zerg building could work

I think the idea was that terran has no "innate" lategame/multi-base defensive perk, where protoss gets warp-ins (and convenient spammable cannons) and zerg gets creep movespeed, tumor vision, and nydus worms. Also the PF, like warpgates, stemmed from early "it'd be cool if" WoL alpha designs and may have been kept more for coolness and theming while not being overtly harmful rather than for being an actively good contribution to gameplay (other such early ideas include the Odin, diamondback, shockwave banshees but with like 3x the AoE width, and various abilities we see on campaign motherships)
@@Photoloss yeah, and because they cost a lot the PF are actually more useful as positional blocks with additional firepower to take down heavier units. They are not the center piece of defense, just a good thing to have to change the battleground favorably.
Worms can deep tunnel to anywhere with creep right? Does it have to be /your/ creep? Because being able to spawn camp the enemies as they walked onto the map with a combined wall of worms, queens for healing, swarm hosts for locusts as free HP sponges, and bunkers and Lurkers for backline support seems pretty OP. Toss on some Banshees for devoted anti-air and you've got yourself one hell of a wall
There is no "ownership" of creep. The worms probably require vision too, and spawn camping this type of mission usually carries a risk of having a full surround spawned on your "back"line, but there's definitely nothing stopping you from trying. With this faction the best option would probably be sieged tanks for more responsive AoE, with a frontline of bunkerlisks for self-healing AA support (Grant did not show them off but they have an attack similar to the IT rockets against air). Vanilla zerg units are unreliable as they're only available from the hero events and the bonus, and swarmhosts are too slow when you're literally sitting on the spawn point (but great at holding chokepoints).

Zerg interfacing with technology is very arbitrary. Neural also works on widowmemes which probably do not have a "life-like neural lattice" controlling them (and perhaps not even terran-grade "AI"). Regarding Kerrigan you'd also think she would at least _consider_ simply capturing terran military hardware and hacking it using her skills as a Ghost, or telepathically dominating Dominion officers for intel.
