My first impressionist water-soluble oil painting | Inspiration in Japan

  • This is my first travel vlog and it took longer than usual to edit. There are many firsts when it comes to figuring things out and I am navigating towards a direction in my youtube channel that I am enjoying more.
Another first - painting in water soluble oils. I don't know what got into me when I decided to buy these paints. Was it curiosity or the lack of something to buy in the store? I wasn't sure but I wanted to make sure I gave it a try since I got a couple of colors. I have tried painting in watercolor, gouache, acrylics and I surprised myself when I painted in this medium - I loved it. I enjoyed how the paint stayed wet and it was easier to blend - just like how I enjoy painting in wet-in-wet
Walk through with me on this adventure as I seek inspiration, fill my belly and creative cup.
I'd love to hear what was it like when you first discovered watercolor or whatever creative medium you paint in.

I have been painting with watercolors daily for 18 months, doing tutorial after tutorial and trying original work from reference photos, as well, thanks to your encouragement. I love to paint and it brings me a lot of joy. Your question about calling oneself an artist is an ongoing struggle for me. Am I a wannabe? Am I a terrible artist? Can I even be called an artist? I'm coming to accept the term for myself and I've started to timidly say it out loud. What holds me back is that I do not have my own style. But, I'm developing skills that will help one to evolve. Thank you for the self-reflection. You are a wonderful artist, mentor, teacher, Yoda!

Great video! I just received some water soluble oils in an art kit, but I had no idea how to use them. I've been looking for inspiration and this video has certainly helped me to at least be willing to give them a try. Love how this turned out.
I had a plumber at my home not long ago, and he saw some of my artwork laying around. He asked if I was an artist and I told him, no, I just like to make art. He smiled and said "You're an artist." I'm slowing starting to accept that about myself.

Try it out! I really like the consistency and how it stays wet so u can blend easily. I use water soluble ones so it is easier for clean up and no toxic fumes for the kiddos hanging around in the studio

I’m anxious to see how you incorporate oil water mixables into your painting life. I’ve painted with Watercolor for years but now I’m enjoying these new oils. I’m painting with them like wc except I use linseed oil in place of water. Water is only for cleaning your brushes which is very convenient. They allow you to work slower…and you seem to be a slow and deliberate painter. I’ll be keeping up with you.

Hi Jillian I’m a new subscriber. I really loved your openness to using other medium. I am new to Holbein duo aqua. I’m a mixed media artist using acrylic mostly. Did you use linseed oil duo aqua as well for this painting? I’m so excited to try them out as my supplies arrived today. I’m happy to have found your tutorial demo. Thank you for sharing x

Actually I didn't even use any linseed oil just the aqua duo! I will try using a fast drying medium next time as I noticed the painting stayed wet for days! Also welcome to my space! Happy u r here!
