  • ESV reminds all Victorians to get all gas heaters serviced every two years by a qualified gasfitter.
Carbon monoxide is a silent killer - you can't see if, smell it or taste it.
The only way to keep your family safe is to get all gas heaters serviced. This includes space heaters, wall furnaces, central heating units and decorative log fires.

I wish as much awareness and focus was put out there about wood fired heaters/stoves too. Most people, including medics, only seem to be versed when it's a gas appliance! Our wood heater flue blocked up slowly due to incomplete combustion and almost killed us, leaving me with Parkinsonism from hypoxic brain injury. Dealing with the consequences every day. Survivors of CO poisoning are rare.

I'm going to report my landlord for not having Carbon Monoxide alarms in the house. We could have been DEAD FFS!

Hi Colin, thanks for getting in touch.
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has a program in place to have these heaters in their properties tested. Phone DHHS on 1800 148 424 for more info.
We've also got a Q&A sheet which has a little more information, which you can find here - www.esv.vic.gov.au/heritage-heaters
      Hope this helps! ESV

He has very nice feet. Forget about his heater, I'll massage them to keep them warm!
