    Daz’s contribution to The Chronic, Doggystyle, Dogg Food and All eyez on me was impeccable, Ambitionz az a ridah is still one of my favourite beats. But after the fall of Death row he seemed to fall off, same as Snoop really, although he’s become a household name as a brand more so now.
    Deathrows demise really did effect many people, from artists to producers and right to folks families. Sad and a shame really.

    Daz's first album is a classic. But Daz, in terms of mainstream appeal, isn't the same caliber as a Snoop or someone like that. Jermaine Dupri gave Daz a shot after he left Death Row but the mainstream was not checking for a Daz solo project. I think that Suge's ear was good enough to understand that. Same reason why Death Row never put out a solo Nate Dogg album. Nate killed hooks but nobody really wanted to hear Nate for a whole album.

      @@shlidgn90 i agree with you but that's not what he was trying to do. He wanted to be a solo artist. Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back was pretty much all Daz on the mic. Look at his catalog after that, It's all Daz on production and on the mic. He has put out tons of stuff independently that never quite met the mark in comparison to his time on Death Row.

    • @MichaelBrown-ti1un
      @MichaelBrown-ti1un 2 года назад +9

      You're right about Daz, but disagree with you on Nate Dogg. As far as Daz, it's not a coincidence all of his best work is with Kurupt, Snoop and the rest of the Dogg Pound. He never had that "it" factor to thrive as a platinum solo artist. Still has a really nice independent solo catalogue of work, tho those projects are filled with featured artists. Daz's SoSoDef album was trash. Wasn't even his sound, so I don't hold that against him.
      As far as Nate Dogg, that "Never Leave Me Alone" single with Snoop back in 96 went platinum (sold a physical million singles, not "streams."). The buzz was there following Nate's work on Doggystyle, The Chronic, Dogg Food, All Eyez On Me those classic soundtracks for a Nate solo to go platinum in 96-97. Suge dropped the ball on Nate Dogg just like they did the Lady of Rage. Nate's album should've been released after AEOM. G-Funk Classics Vol 1 and 2 had hits, but zero promotion when it eventually came out.

    In hindsight, what a dumb move by Reggie and Suge. These dudes went outta their way to alienate the talent that still remained at Death Row after everybody already left. They clearly were tryna cause friction amongst the Long Beach/DPG camp. Some evil vindictive divide and conquer type sh## lol.
    Reggie is right about Daz in some ways tho. Daz was very early in hip hop with low budget videos, putting out songs digitally on the DPG Recordz website, and he was interacting with fans in forums on a daily basis way before social media took off. Those early 2000s wars between the DPG Recordz and The Death Row websites were pure comedy 😂😂😂.
