00-04 Nissan Xterra No Start - No Crank - Try this! (Park Neutral Switch)

- If you have a first gen Nissan Xterra, you may run into a no-start-no-crank situation. Many things are in the start circuit that can cause this...but a quick check can possibly get you going again! The Park-Neutral switch is a switch that only lets you crank the engine if the gear selector is in Park or Neutral. Before digging into invasive diagnostics...try cycling the gear selector a few times to see if the switch makes better contact. It beats calling a tow truck!

I sold my 2001 SE with 400,000 miles to move to Mexico for year. 😢. But i just got back and bought a 2004 i think it’s an XE. Wanted 4W but none close enough to me in Texas. So happy to be in an Xterra again. Saw a reference to your channel. Learning all i can.

Wow www thank you you this morning the car alarm went off every time I opened the door without me setting the alarm.after 45 mins trying to figure it out decided to watch a video ad here you are my hero. And it fixed the problem .looks like the car shoot down because of the alarm going off so many times 😀🤔🤗🤕🤑

It actually works because I have one with the same problem and I have been able to solve it. I have removed the ckp from the coil and nothing that wants to turn on

Omg 😱 bro !!! Thank You!!! I have a 2004 ( that I don’t drive much ) that only has 70,000 miles on it & it decided not to crank today. It acted exactly like you created on this video & i could hear the pump. My dumb butt went & bought a new battery 🔋 & it did the same thing. Then I found your video & it cranked in 30 seconds! Smh ….. Thanks a million!!!!
So what do we do to fix the park switch? Replace it ?
I honestly don't know for sure. I never bothered with a permanent fix. It happens to me maybe 3-4 times per year and jiggling the shifter always fixes it. The switch is under the truck on top of transmission bell housing. Enough of a pain I never bothered replacing it.

Got ya ! I might have it “ looked at “ and see if it needs replaced or just loose. Thanks for the video cause I was loosing my mind when it didn’t crank - but had been cranking all day with no issue.
@@AnonymousEnt01 sounds good...if you have someone look at it then may as well have it replaced. I think the switch replacement would probably fix it.
Mine is a 2008 Xterra and my only worry is when I shift gear from Park to drive and press gas pedal it kinda jerk. Not moving smooth. I don't know may be its the nature of Xterra??

I have a 2003 nissan xterra same problem but all I do is after I try to start it and it doesn't I just push the shift button and push it forward usually works but if that doesn't work I do your trick but I don't do it as many times lol I just do it once

I have a 2014 manual trans pro4x that is starting to do this . Starts sometimes , sometimes doesn’t . It’s weird sometimes I can get out of the car get back in and it will start right up. I can put it in neutral and it will sometimes start , sometimes not. Brand new battery ……any ideas ?
I don't know much about the newer xterras...but do a Google search for "Xterra factory service manual". Look for a website called nicco club. You can get a .pdf of the service manual from Nissan which includes schematics for the start circuit. I'd start there.
That is Exactly what mine does but it quit working. The moving of the shifter doesn't help now. What to do

Yep you can also start it in Neutral but keep foot on brake. I have a 2001 nissan maxima like that . I have been trying to adjust the neutral safety switch. To realign it. It’s gotten a little better. Instead of 50% of time It’s maybe 10% of time.

My xterra starts but anytime it runs whenever we press the gas to about 2500 rpm then it almost sounds like it has a rev limiter. Its an 02 and it has about 146k miles on it and its probably just gettin old from wear and tear but i just need to know how to fix it so i can sell it and get a more reliable car, i love the xterra but it has costed me so much money, it used to be my dads car and it was just sitting for years

My cousin has a 2010 Xterra doing this. Ive tried every video every fix even bought new ignition relay everything but replace the board for like 300+$ Resetting everything, clean terminals...i mean the thing is just annoying. Sometimes starts right up, sometimes turns over until battery dies if you let it.. No damn pattern! We keep the jumper box with us just in case and cables but sometimes i can turn the key for like a second to turn over once and catch it. But these vehicles just suck balls. Outside of replacing tons even the damn parking switch in the engine ive about given up.
This was the year also i found they used a newer black colored electrical box instead of beige or white. Claims state this is the one that doesnt act up. Buuullllll Shsshhhhhh
