39:30 hey daniel, when Shierke tells Serpico she will "not allow it to happen" she's referring to Serpico's fear of Guts killing Farnese in his Berserk state, she gets that from a vision of Serpico's mind with the berserker armor stabbing Farnese in chapter 257 (the pannel right after is Shierke with her eyes closed thinking "Serpico", which indicates she's in his mind)
Also, in chapter 243, during the fight against the crocodiles, it's NOT Shierke who initially stops Guts's rampage by saying "stop, not your enemies", she comes after. You can discern that by how her words are initially muffled or otherwise intelligibile due to the "distance", while the other figure's words are clear and understandable much before her arrival
Side note, you didn't include it and i full understand it, but the moment when, during the tavern brawl (chapter 249), Shierke laughs thinking "despite all that, i can smile" is the line that to me best encapsulates Berserk's main theme
------WOULD BE NICE if Daniel did a seperate video for Kentaro Miura's last issue (chapter 364 - A Tear Like Morning Dew). It's almost like Miura knew he was going to die so he gave us one of the most beautifully poetic chapters of Berserk.
Quick note on "King Hanafubuku", (I don't think it's a spoiler to say this big important name that was just revealed comes up again), that is a weird translation thing that Dark Horse is weirdly inconsistent with doing well (like most things they do). Anyway, a better/more accurate translation that has come around in more recent years (that Dark Horse has inconsistently applied across their releases) is "Flowerstorm Monarch". So when you come across one or the other, know that they are referring to the same thing. The original japanese is "Hanafubuku-Oh" with "hana" being flowers, "fubuku" being essentially blizzards or storms, and "Oh" being a monarchal figure. So "King Hanafubuku" is basically treating the "hanafubuku" part as a proper name whereas its more meant as a descriptive title.
Yep. It's like if the translators for One Piece had chosen to go with King Kaisoku instead of Pirate King or King of the Pirates. The original japanese is kaisoku-ou, like with hanafubuku-ou.
I would also add just naming the Elf King Oberyn would fit perfectly... It takes a bit of stretching, but due to the nature of Japanese language, this being the Fantasia and Miura's evident knowledge and love of fantasy: -Summer has storms -Fireworks festivals happen in July and August, and the they are named Fire Flower festivals [Hanabi] -The Elf King in 'Midsummer night's Dream'
The knight who randomly showed up in the pirate brawl is Azan, Farnese's former vice commander. The dude who shamed his men for trying to hurt Guts after he'd been captured and did his best to protect the refugees at the Tower of Conviction.
The finger-picture framing thing that Roderick does predates photographs! It's actually quite an old technique that painters used to find the best composition. The fingers mimicking the frame of a painting rather than the edges of a modern photo. They would sometimes even make little wooden/card frames to attach to a stand or edge of their easel that would further block off their subject for a composition. So, I believe he's referencing that!
Wooo giga Chad Rodrick is honestly one of the best characters I never knew I needed in berserk. He's one of my favorites and subverts expectations compared to the weasely nobles we've met up to this point
Framing someone in your fingers like that is totally reasonable even in a renaissance-type society like the one in Berserk. It's a gesture that is meant to "frame someone in a picture", just like a painting. Not to mention the fact that cameras existed *_before_* photography, in the form of the camera obscura, which was a device used to assist in making accurate (photoreal) paintings.
I don't know if anyone is gonna tell you this Daniel, but that Skull Knight edit was phenomenal and increased my enjoyement of this review substantially.
I always take this volume to appreciate how guts has grown as a person. Volume 1, post eclipse black swordsman Guts, pre band of the hawk mercenary Guts, none of those persons would have given anything up for another person. It was strictly survival and trust damage so great that no one alive could get close to them. Seeing guts say It ain't much of a deal, let's go get her literally brought a tear to my eye the first time I saw that page and I'm glad you have that panel a closer observation. Thanks for the longer video Daniel!
Guts's journey from being this angry, violent, even cruel man to being a person who will put his hand on the shoulder of a little girl who's lost her mentor and tell her it's ok to cry is what makes berserk so special to me.
@@noahwiener2491 the contrast to that moment and the moment with Jill in the lost children arc where he tells her next time I'm not stopping my sword! Total character mentality change
I’ve just rewatched the entire playlist, he made similar edits for zodd before the whole kneeling to Griffith thing and now his affections have shifted to Sir Spooky. It’s been kind of it’s own character growth arc when watching it all in one go
Really cool detail: the arches where Serpico and Guts duel are almost identical to the real life (gorgeous) Mosque of Cordoba in Spain. Miura evidently liked his irl architecture
I saw photos of Miura's drawing studio and the desk and walls were completely covered in pictures of real world architecture and castles, I thought that was pretty cool how he had so much reference material that he used to inspire the architecture in the manga
Youre probably not wrong, that was a mosque that got converted to Christianity after the Reconquista, and was originally an eastern inspired faction's place that later got taken over by a medieval European style faction
Oh shit! The concept of Kushan territory repurposed by Midlanders made me think of that period in time where a arabian kingdom controlled the Iberic Peninsula - and the influences it had in Portugal, Spain and its colonies. It was more of a direct reference than I imagined lol
57:15 Just that small detail of Daniel's pupil's being transparent and showing the page through his head is so perfect, it's like Griffith's presence has permeated even through reality and caught his eys *chef's kiss*
I feel your call on Farneese having feelings for Guts being off isn't fully on the mark but still not wrong. I always thought there was a level of attraction on top of her deep respect for him for everything that has happened since the Conviction Arc. I could see it being confused as love.
I like to see it as the same dynamic as old Casca and Griffith. Casca thought she loved Griffith, but it was her blind admiration of her savior that made her feel that way, rather than a deep connection to him. Farnese is pretty much the same situation.
@@mena10ss I see what your going for but I disagree. Casca respected Griffith to the point of worship. Now if Farnese only went to Guts for inspiration and guidance I would agree with you more. She goes to Shierke for guidance more than Guts. Rather than trying to only make her self useful to Guts she is also striving towards learning magic and finding herself through these trials. I can see where parallels could be drawn but I feel the motivations and actions around them make them very different. Becasue of those differences I feel like Farnese feelings towards Guts are far healthier than Casca's to Griffith were.
@Aaron Of course. I never said they were the exact same, but they are pretty damn close. You do have to remember, in the beginning, Farnese outright called Guts her "savior." Additionally, she is practically in the same situation as old Casca when she knew Griffith would never be with her. They both worshipped from afar, knowing they would never actually get close because the other party was interested in something else. It's an interesting dynamic to see, is all.
Well she did show at the very least a physical attraction when they first met and she's like licking his blood and feeling his muscles or something then finger blasts herself after. And guys opened her eyes to the truth of the world and saved her from essentially a cult and showed her how to stand up and fight no matter how hopeless it seems. Honestly imo her having feelings for guts makes sense to me he's a stoic badass that saved her life multiple times and has made her stronger as a person and serpico completely shut her down in her youth so she no longer cares for him like that, if she even did to begin with Im pretty sure she just wanted him to take her virginity so she wouldn't get married off
Seeing this thing edited live on twitch and then seeing the final product is cool. Everything feels familiar but less jumbled up. It's fun to see the process and the final product is great. Keep the Berserk videos coming!
That panel of Guts being pulled out of the influence of the suit by schierke is one of my top 5 favorite panels on the entire series...it's absolutely beautiful, it means so much...I absolutely love it!
I appreciate the inevitable transition from Daniel's 'IDK how I feel about Farnese joining the good guys' to wholeheartedly agreeing that having her leave the party is an unacceptable turn of events. I love the character development in this series.
33:37 Actually I did not notice this originally either but after watching many Bersek videos over the years I have seen people pointing out that Farnese's attraction towards Guts has been subtlety hinted at various times. Mostly way of longing looks and how eagerly she rushing be helpful and get Guts's approval.
Small note on Farnese’s crush on Guts; There’s a decent bit of visual storytelling up to that point that hints at it, particularly in how Farnese just *looks* at Guts. It’s very easy to miss, but it is there.
Guts is the only Man near her for a while and he is their strong leader of course every one has a crush on him, its a parallel to griffith and how different they use their power and influence over their followers, guts considers them friends
She literally followed him, abadoning the army, guts and the danger he has around him. He i a bad boy and while pretty sure sh admirs and wants to learn from him to be stronger, yeah she has a crush.
I just have to say it I love Farnese’s mom. She had comparatively so little screen time and she wasn’t exactly warm or welcoming but she was just dispensing wisdom left right and centre and just oozes this aloof and haughty air while also seeming very kind and caring in her own way.
Deluxe edition 13 release March 23rd. That gets you to volume 39. There are then two stand alone volumes: 40 and 41, and 7 chapters released beyond that. Hope this helps.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE these videos and all of his Berserk content. But this video is titled "I read all of it" when he's like only 75% through the current available material...? Like does he just not know that there's more volumes available beyond what has been released via Deluxe Editions?
44:15. It's important to remember, though it doesn't come up often, that Guts has no respect or love for nobility. While he's never gone full revolutionary he has always disrespected them at every chance he gets. So yeah, him being like "Job's done, don't care if these nobles die" is absolutely his vibe.
Ive started reading this absolute masterpiece last year and ive started this video series about a week ago. Finally having reached the part I am at in the manga, i realize that this has really opened my eyes about things ive missed in the story, and also how much i love it. Amazing read along Mr Greene, i will now read until i get caught up with the next video, and the next after that in the playlist. ps. Somehow it took me THIS MANY HOURS OF CONTENT TO SUBSCRIBE, and i apologize for not instantly reminding myself to do so after the first review. Thank you Mr. Greene, for the amazing free quality content.
30:49 I believe that hand gesture is a reference to renaissance grid drawing where you literally are framing your subject for a painting much like you do with a camera, look at the poster for "The Draughtsman's Contract" for a reference.
8:15 - It's not Schierke saying "not your enemies, don't be afraid." Guts encounters something else in the astral realm. Afraid to say too much more because spoilers. Also, each of the Deluxe editions contains three volumes of the paperback edition. Deluxe Edition 13 comes out March 21, so you might as well wait for that to come out. It covers through Volume 39. After that there are only two more volumes, 40 and 41, which collects every chapter written and drawn by Miura before his death. After that there are seven more chapters written and drawn by Miura's team headed by Kouji Mori, which have not been officially released in English yet (although if you're willing to sail the seven seas, fan translations can be had).
No, I believe you're right about the nature of the duel. I'd say it was in much the same spirit as the Guts' final duel with Griffith before leaving the Band of the Hawk; very serious, but with great restraint and no intent to kill. If Guts had really intended to put Serpico down, he would have done so with every tool at his disposal. Restraint-wise, comparing Guts in a duel to Guts fighting to kill is like comparing a formal ball to a monster truck rally.
There’s this one uncomfortable moment regarding Schierke and Guts, but overall it’s super sweet imo and the way how it’s eventually resolved is absolutely beautiful
Your perspective on how Farnese have a crush on Guts as weird is quite a weird miss imo, since Farnese has been shown to be quite the romantic Masochist. There are only 2 males that have impacted Farnese life massively, Serpico & Guts. She actually have affections for both too. While Serpico rejected their twisted love, Guts give her all the chances. I think in this scenario, Guts is like that mysterious enigmatic strong ruggedly handsome guy who suddenly change Farnese's perspective on life, meanwhile this very guy not only menacing strong looking, but turn out he has a big heart & rather broken. It's very instinctive for a female who admired a male to help "fix" him or "heal" him. In a Berserk way, it's a very "Beauty & The Beast" romanticism, only this time it's like a BDSM zealot student who is in love with her mad demon slayer teacher. It's all rather interesting tbh LOL
Welcome to the current release. Between this and One Piece, you've really made it through, struggler. I'm incredibly excited to see where the story goes, and so glad you're invested in such a grand story!
Gut is someone who broke Farnese world. Showed that what she belived in was empty and showed that he has strength to stand in the scary world that she is desperately lacking. In my experiance that is exactly those circumstances in which love can blossom. Of course guts can't be there for her, since he is for Casca, but doesn't make the feelings necessarily go away. Also even before this happened i felt there was kind of attraction hinted from Farnese towards guts. It was definetly buried under many layers. But it was kind of fascination toward man he shouldn't never like, but still is very fascinating. Kind of opposites attarct way in the sense that gut's was her antithesis. I think she expected more opposition when she finally caught guts but him being so in different baffled her emotionally. Made him mystery that had to be solved or mistake that had to be corrected.
One of my favorite things from Berserk is the little family Guts gathers around himself and how everyone is so supportive in helping each others growth as people.
Your videos got me into Berserk, and I fell in love with the story and binged the whole thing in a month. It's been a while since then, and watching these videos makes me fall in love with the story all over again. Thank you Daniel!
30:40 I'd say that would have to come from a frame more than a camera. Obviously he can't take a picture of her but he's saying she's as beautiful as a painting/portrait and would frame her to show off how she looked with the roses
33:57 When she was whipping him early on, she was getting sort of bothered by her attraction to him. There is a bit of tension for her, but once she discovers the reality of the world, she sees him more as a symbol of salvation in an unbearable darkness. She gives up on the idea of being with Guts, when she decides she wants to be useful to him, in protecting the one he loves. Now she wants to be useful to him in learning magic... I think that is the extent of her fixation on Guts at this point in the story.
Love seeing the giant-sized Berserk video! One interesting thing to note is when reading the series in smaller and more spaced-out chunks, it's easy to see Griffith outside of the context of the Golden Age and the Eclipse. Reading it only a chapter or two at a time, he starts to feel like the hero he's being set up as, and it makes it all the more jarring and haunting when you remember just who and what he really is. After you finish Berserk, you should check out Blade of the Immortal! It also deals with heavy and weighty themes, while mixing in grindhouse levels of violence and ridiculous samurai action.
Your attention to theme and characterization remains spectacular. Also, the editing in this video was a cut above and beyond. Really noticed the upgrade here
So the Staufen or Hohenstaufen (I think it's important to remember that a translator had to figure that name out going off of Katakana, so even if it was intended to be Staufen, the translation might have changed it) was a High Nobility dynasty of the Holy Roman Empire, among others spawning Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, possibly one of the most famous Holy Roman Emperors aside from Charlemagne. Just a bit of trivia because I am desperate to talk about history to anyone who might be remotely insterested to listen
33:00 Farnese's mother is clearly made out to be a cool, smart and actualized character. However its weird that she wasn't there to raise her daughter.
Really enjoy hearing someone analyze berserk and understand a lot of what Miura is thematically telling. Also continuous kudos to listening to people correct mistakes and then correcting yourself. Keep it up!
Griffith is indeed the most cunning villain in dark fantasy, he is maneuvering the most powerful and influential people on the continent with subtle visions and a few words while Guts can barely keep those around him safe. And this is something that isnt out of nowhere since in the Golden Age we saw him doing the exact same thing inside the kingdom of Midland before Guts left the Band of the Hawk.
26:41 Even with all of Farnese's character growth, the fact that it's her first time confronting her father in years, and doing so after a shameful defeat. Her sudden silence makes sense.
Griffith is such a incredible character because at least for me, when I was really immersed reading even in pages where he is nowhere to be seen, he is always in the back on my head. And that terrifying peace that his presence brings is just insane.
I was getting a bit sad here at the beginning, but then I noticed it was 1 hour for 1 Deluxe, so I'm fine now lmao. And no need to apologize for missing the last 2 weeks, I'm just glad your wrist is better. Just as an overall comment: I really liked the new direction the edit is going. It's good that you're experimenting more with it, it's charming and cool. And the video was AWESOME. I really fucking love your Berserk deep dives, and I love that you're loving it. Thanks for making these, and I'm glad you're reading it. About the party, I agree 100% with you. I love everyone. It's insane the level of depth Miura can give to the characters in such a short span of time, and not only individual depth, but an actual sense of belonging within the party. And, yeah, Guts is definitely a cannon, but more so a titanium one than a glass one lmao. Mfer is able to deal A LOT of damage, his sword basically has AoE properties and he's still the tankiest in the party (and, well, in the world, if we're talking just humans) BY FAR. Also, I really like that even characters like Sonia are explored there. The dream of kite and owl playing in the night is a much sweeter thing than I would expect, given the circumstances. It really shows that, despite being trapped by the Hawk's cult, a lot of the members are actually just regular people, with real emotions. Even Sonia, someone very far from being "regular" in any capacity in the New Band of the Hawk, both because of her powers and proximity to Griffith, has something we can relate to and empathize. Of course, they're nowhere near as empathetic as our party, and we're not supposed to like them that much either, but I just felt like that scene was so sweet, at least in the way you showed in the video (I don't remember what I thought about it at the time of reading, maybe nothing in particular because I binged it). Still on the character development topic, though, it's ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE that Farnese got such a massive twist THAT WAS BELIEVABLE. She went from a mfer no one likes to someone actually sweet, kind and caring. Someone we like and care about. Also, I disagree that it doesn't make sense for her to act like that when she got home. This fear and estrangement to her own father is a core pillar to Farnese's formation as a person. It makes total sense, to me, that she'd default to that, specially now that she's lost the wild nature she used to have before joining the party. As a child, this estrangement would lead her to wreaking havoc in the castle. Now, it only makes her sad and a feeling of inferiority. Not only that, but she doesn't have the privilege of not caring about her punishment or anything like that. For what she's trying to do, she NEEDS her father to be at least a bit charitable towards her, and this would in no way be accomplished by her standing up to herself and defying him. Oh, you took it back later lol. But I disagree that it's odd that she thought of Guts. I don't it's much that she liked him romantically per se, but he's basically the sole reason she was able to break free of her chains. Going back to the Conviciton arc, she viewed him as the source of light in the night, the one stand against whatever lies in the dark. She and Serpico went traveling for a while just to try and find him again. He's given her, even if unknowingly and unintentionally, a way to survive the new world she discovered, and a sense of belonging and of purpose. I think it makes perfect sense that she'd think of him whe asked that question. That's a level of admiration she had never felt before, and a world she had never explored. She's almost as much a child as Schierke in this sense, I think. And, yeah, Guts is an absolute menace even when he's just talking lmao. Imagine a 6'5 guy, the thickness of a fridge, wide as a wardrobe, jacked as fuck, a bunch of battle scars, strong enough to swing effectively an even bigger and heavier sword than himself, able to cut through SEVERAL CROCODILE MONSTERS *WITH ONE SWING* and almost as quick as Serpico himself. This guy could be saying "hey, dude, love your company, take care" and I'd be dirtying myself. There's no way anyone would not be intimidated by him lmao. Which brings me to the point that Serpico didn't cheat, he's just NOT STUPID. Guts has an intrinsic advantage by being Guts, Serpico's "cheating" is him trying to level the playing field lmao. And he still lost. I agree with you that Guts wouldn't kill Serpico, though. FUCK YEAH, Griffith is SO FUCKING WELL STABILISHED. It's INCREDIBLE to me that he just keeps getting better and better as a villain, and more and more complex and all-encompassing in the world. His influence is so MASSIVE and well done, it's absolutely insane. As much as I despise Griffith, I can't help but admire him as a villain, not only as an observation of his role in the world and in the story, but as a very fucking competent antagonist. There's no such thing as "well, Griffith slipped here, so we'll exploit that", he's just putting out banger after banger and forming a massive web of influence and power. This arc really makes Guts' party look like the smallest thing in the world. In one side, we have the Kushan, the biggest army ever, with a nigh untouchable post-apostle emperor, with war beasts and such. On the other side, we have Griffith and the New Band of the Hawk. And Guts is just there. Existing. Trying to follow his own path and divorce himself from his own hatred and this stupid war that he has nothing to do with, but failing miserably, as he's in the middle of such gigantic forces that it's just not possible for him to avoid it (at least not completely). EDIT: I've seen someone else point this out in another comment and I noticed I forgot to talk about it: Schierke reaching out to Guts when he's losing himself is such a beautiful panel. It's one of my favoutires, and probably one I will try to fit in my (not so) soon to be Berserk tattoo sleeve. Just absolutely gorgeous panel and imagery.
I always wanted to get into Berserk, but never seemed to find the time/motivation to do it. And ever since Daniel started covering it, it’s become one of my favorite things. This videos are always so entertaining. 🙏
The reason you may have thought Farnese’s mother was dead was the flashback chapter about Serpico, in which you learned he was her half brother and saw his mother burned as a heretic.
Berserk Deluxe Edition 13 is coming out March 21st if you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks to do that video. Also the Sir Spooky edit was hilarious!
9:30 man I have to say, I love these wide-shot Berserk gives us from time to time. I need more manga with realistic medieval armies. Like regular realistic armor looks so good, especially with the amount of detail Berserk often shows.
After you've finished this epic journey, one of 'the best', The Kingdom would be an awesome follow up. Epic battles, transformation, amazing build up, deep lore, nail biting politics, major cliff hangers, crazy plot reveals, it has it all, the battle of the unity of the 7 kingdoms of China. Would love to see your reactions!
**In regards to Farnese clamming up when her father starts to scold her** Its somewhat two fold. Put yourself in her shoes. She IS responsible for the decline of her family's reputation. Dont forget in her past she nearly burnt down their entire kingdom, failed to uphold her duties to the holy see and led a good deal of their forces to their deaths, then lived in shame. Also, what is she suppose to tell her father?? "Oh, sorry dad your words can't hurt me now. I threw away my nobility, because I have a crush on a boy (you wouldn't like him) and his band of magically powered misfits." Also "the world you can't see, because you are oblivious to its mythical forces calls for my aid." She really doesn't have a leg to stand on. Even if she is more of a well-rounded human being at this point.. I'd be frozen in fear too. But thats what makes her so brave. Despite of all that, she decided to try asking for a ship from her estranged family anyway. And It shows that despite how far she's come, she still needs to grow further. Miura does character work so masterfully, its almost never all at once.. It was expected of women back then to be seen, but not heard. She still needs to find her voice by the end of this arc. BRILLIANT!
Schierke's name based on the Katakana pronunciation is almost certainly meant to be Silke, not Shriek or Shrieke. Silke is also a German diminutive form of Celia, meaning "heavenly", from the Latin "caelum" meaning "heaven".
Yessss I’ve been waiting for this - although maybe I wouldn’t be so eager to catch up to publication, they’re taking their time with releasing chapters
I can't watch this since I am not all the way caught up with the Berserk series. However, I want to thank you for pointing out that these special editions exist. Berserk is my fav Manga series of all time and now I know that I can purchase the whole series in hardback. I ordered the first volume as soon as I closed the video. Thanks. You rock.

Quick note on "King Hanafubuku", (I don't think it's a spoiler to say this big important name that was just revealed comes up again), that is a weird translation thing that Dark Horse is weirdly inconsistent with doing well (like most things they do). Yep. It's like if the translators for One Piece had chosen to go with King Kaisoku instead of Pirate King or King of the Pirates. The original japanese is kaisoku-ou, like with hanafubuku-ou.

I always appreciate Farnese's reflection on the campfire and how it echoes Guts' Bonfire of Dreams chapter.
also Serpico's rescue of Farnese echoing Guts' rescue of Casca in the cult cave.
The knight who randomly showed up in the pirate brawl is Azan, Farnese's former vice commander. The dude who shamed his men for trying to hurt Guts after he'd been captured and did his best to protect the refugees at the Tower of Conviction.
No way if it was why doesnt he recognize Farnese later when theyre all on Roderick's ship

The Sir Spooky edit you made was absolutely beautiful. This is the type of content I didn’t know I signed up for but glad I got
we've definitely all thought about it!
you should watch his editing streams
I caught me off guard and I loved it
I’ve just rewatched the entire playlist, he made similar edits for zodd before the whole kneeling to Griffith thing and now his affections have shifted to Sir Spooky. It’s been kind of it’s own character growth arc when watching it all in one go
Really cool detail: the arches where Serpico and Guts duel are almost identical to the real life (gorgeous) Mosque of Cordoba in Spain. Miura evidently liked his irl architecture
He mentioned in an interview once he does a lot of research on medieval and historic architecture
And given how daniel said that kids crush easy if they admire someone. Why wooulsnt farnese have a crush on guts, thatnever stots , i think.
Honestly imo her having feelings for guts makes sense to me he's a stoic badass that saved her life multiple times and has made her stronger as a person and serpico completely shut her down in her youth so she no longer cares for him like that, if she even did to begin with Im pretty sure she just wanted him to take her virginity so she wouldn't get married off
Sorry to hear about the injury but glad to see you’re feeling better.
Longer Berserk read alongs? Oh heck yeah!!
Griffith is like having a Ta'Veren as an antagonist. Fate is on his side.
Seeing this thing edited live on twitch and then seeing the final product is cool. Everything feels familiar but less jumbled up. It's fun to see the process and the final product is great. Keep the Berserk videos coming!
An hour long video… I can’t thank you enough Daniel this has made my sh*t day so much better
It's a little weird but the way Guts is just like "let me sleep"
This Berserk journey has been amazing. Loved every second of it.
Welcome to the current release. Between this and One Piece, you've really made it through, struggler. I'm incredibly excited to see where the story goes, and so glad you're invested in such a grand story!
im so glad to hear we're getting a full deluxe volume a video now, love watching your berserk journey
Guts has reached his ultimate form.
White hair streak Guts.
You absolutely nailed it with your description of Griffith and I just know you're gonna love where this is all gonna lead.
39:06 Dan you with a fencing foil vs. Guts with The Iron Slab Dragon Slayer.
you best channel all the rabid goblin energy
LOL was a real treat to watch the Sir Spooky clip go from creation to video on the Twitch stream!
57:40 Can I just say I love that Daniels eyes are so green they got greenscreened onto the page, it looks cool as hell tbh.
Your attention to theme and characterization remains spectacular.
Also, the editing in this video was a cut above and beyond. Really noticed the upgrade here
I feel like the next big deluxe read-through should be titled *SPEED. I. AM. SPEED* .
So, so glad you’re back to reviewing it.
"I'm sorry but if you challenge someone to a duel, it needs to be equal footing"
There is no human being that is on equal footing with Guts.
Really enjoy hearing someone analyze berserk and understand a lot of what Miura is thematically telling. Also continuous kudos to listening to people correct mistakes and then correcting yourself.
Keep it up!
I gotta say, for some videos now, the music, sound effects and voices you add are spot on
Griffith is indeed the most cunning villain in dark fantasy, he is maneuvering the most powerful and influential people on the continent with subtle visions and a few words while Guts can barely keep those around him safe. And this is something that isnt out of nowhere since in the Golden Age we saw him doing the exact same thing inside the kingdom of Midland before Guts left the Band of the Hawk.
And he is cheating, I would not say most cunning, becaus he is cheating with his dark chosen one powers, but he is terrifing.
You’ve come so far from that original berserk review, it puts a tear in my eye
I just love how rich with detail the Kushan building style is. Simultaneously monstrous and rich with beauty.
I never noticed it until now but there's an interesting parallel between Guts, Casca, Shirke and Griffith, Charlotte, Sonia
I'm of the opinion that the next volume and the one after have the best art of the whole thing, you're in for a treat
The next Deluxe Edition is my favourite part of all Berserk and maybe of any media
13.26 I just found out that a kite means more than an inanomate kite too Sunday just past. Good to know I'm not alone in that😅
LETS GOOO big berserk video. I love this series and I love seeing your fresh reaction to it
Ngl this is what I’ve wanted from the beginning I’m hype
Like the thoughts here. It was a good read.
@@zionkim8668 Thanks! Good to know I was making sense while writing this. Sometimes my thoughts are not so coherent lol

I always wanted to get into Berserk, but never seemed to find the time/motivation to do it.
And ever since Daniel started covering it, it’s become one of my favorite things.
This videos are always so entertaining. 🙏
I wasn't expecting the sir. Spooky animation and transition. But I have to say, I love it!
The reason you may have thought Farnese’s mother was dead was the flashback chapter about Serpico, in which you learned he was her half brother and saw his mother burned as a heretic.
Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the upcoming 'Boat Arc' ...
Berserk Deluxe Edition 13 is coming out March 21st if you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks to do that video. Also the Sir Spooky edit was hilarious!
Loved the creepy transition you used throughout the video really fits the beserk review and just looks really fucking cool
I love this, keep them going
I love the scene transitions and editing in this video.
9:30 man I have to say, I love these wide-shot Berserk gives us from time to time. I need more manga with realistic medieval armies. Like regular realistic armor looks so good, especially with the amount of detail Berserk often shows.
Oh baby long form review with fantastic editing? Sign me up
I've been waiting for this. Hell yeah. I knew it was coming (because of the tweet) but can't wait for you to catch up. Its Berskin' time.
The editing really levels up my enjoyment for your Berserk series.
Thanks so much for sharing your voice!
Yessss! Great to have it back! Appreciate your work dude!
Love u too dude! This was a exactly what I needed tonight
**In regards to Farnese clamming up when her father starts to scold her**
Its somewhat two fold. BRILLIANT!
Your commentary about some details that you notice while reading made me appreciate this manga even more than I already did. Thank you Daniel!
Schierke's name based on the Katakana pronunciation is almost certainly meant to be Silke, not Shriek or Shrieke.
Silke is also a German diminutive form of Celia, meaning "heavenly", from the Latin "caelum" meaning "heaven".
Few videos get me to pause and immediately start watching. U berserk videos always do, thank you for them
Man, you have an awesome battle to look forward to in the next volume, has one of the greatest panels in there.
Yessss I’ve been waiting for this - although maybe I wouldn’t be so eager to catch up to publication, they’re taking their time with releasing chapters
watched you edit this on twitch!! glad to see it
I love your Berserk reviews. You really know how to convey ideas well. Keep it up my friend. 🔥🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾
I just want to mention how the art has evolved since the first volume
I love how each person gives Skull knight a different nickname, Sir Spooky is a good one but La Calaca will forever be my favorite
A new Berserk video! Wonderful. This is a great way to spend the evening.
I hope your new book is out soon!
Thank you for making longer re videos. Daniel
Thank you very much for the excellent and entertaining 1 hour first impressions video.
Can't wait for that lore deep-dive. Great video.
No wonder the break was almost a month long covering 1 whole Big Boi volume. Hell yeah, and Sir Spooky's intro went harder than the Eclipse lul
Fantastic video love the longer form analsys/summery of the full volumes, can't wait for the next one, keep up the good work!
Yes!! I’ve been waiting for this!
Can't watch ALL OF IT right now but I am so stoked for you
I can't watch this since I am not all the way caught up with the Berserk series. However, I want to thank you for pointing out that these special editions exist. Berserk is my fav Manga series of all time and now I know that I can purchase the whole series in hardback. I ordered the first volume as soon as I closed the video. Thanks. You rock.
