  • A breakdown of Pulling Guard in MMA that analyses the tactic of the guard pull, which is common in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and No Gi BJJ, but rare in MMA. I discuss the strategy behind why you would pull guard, its drawbacks and explain specific techniques.
    The primary MMA fighters that I examine have all pulled guard on multiple occasions in MMA fights and they are Shinya Aoki, Demina Maia, Kron Gracie, Paul Sass, Andre Galvao, Masakazu Imanari & Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira.
    Also I touch on how having a dangerous guard opens up more striking opportunities when standing and I separated out leg locking and leg entanglements as that was a big enough topic that would warrant its own discussion.

    Halfguard is very risky, according to our former headchoach (who trained overeem etc in samui in thailand). its quite easy for the oerson on top to dominate.

    • @SonnyBrown
      @SonnyBrown  5 лет назад

      Well yeah as I say its always risky to on the bottom.

      @emeliedenmodige2470 5 лет назад

      @@SonnyBrown of course, just wanted to emphasize it a little more (he even let the person on the bottom put him in halfguard from mount, side)=)

    • @elenchus
      @elenchus 4 года назад

      old comment, but it really depends on the kind of half guard you're using. If you're able to get the lockdown and get out and beside the opponent (opponent is then facing down, you're facing the opponent by his side) you can be quite safe and go on the offense. But if you're doing the conventional half guard, which is basically just the in between position between full guard and getting passed (i.e. the entire fight in the half guard is to either pass the guard or to get the full guard back) then you're pretty vulnerable. I also think, contra Ryan Hall, that deep half is probably too unsafe to be relied on in MMA.

      @@SonnyBrown I did like the majority. Well paced, just about the right length for the commute. Structured and well thought out. High brow, planned, intelligent content. The "peace" strikes me as something low brow that teenage Americans say when they don't know how to close an argument or statement. I feel it detracts from the overall feel of the content.

    I disagree with Brovo's pecking order.
    I would say the order is more like:
    1) Win wrestling
    2) Win striking
    3) Pull guard
    By winning wrestling and taking the opponent to the ground, you will be in dominant position to rain down strikes, whereas your oppoennt will mostly be defensive. However trying to win a striking battle standing, you will always be at a neutral position against your opponent. While you might be a better striker than he is, you're positionally in neutral territory with no advantage on either side.
