Wondering how to set a custom GitHub Pages domain name? Want to use your GoDaddy domain on GitHub Pages? In this tutorial I demonstrate how to configure your personal website hosted on GitHub Pages with a custom domain name from GoDaddy, although the steps used here will apply to any domain name register like hover, etc. If you want an example of how to use a custom domain on GitHub Pages this tutorial is the one to view.
I just bought my first domain and i had no idea about what to do next. Yours is the last video i needed for today. My website is live 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank you very much
Awesome! Drop the link!!!
My TSL certificate had started giving me an error, searched through a lot of forums and nothing worked. Turned out it was my CNAME value in GoDaddy, I had it set to my custom domain name instead of my GitHub. Once I changed that it worked perfectly, thanks so much!
Thank youuu
You are a goat you saved me 😭💓💓💓
This is 4 years old now. Do the steps still work? I should probably record a new one with my improved microphone and camera
Thanks for this. I had to reach out to them cause apparently if you opt for the coming soon page, it will lock the records from being editable (CNAME)...which I found out was what I needed to do in order for it to serve the content through your tutorial here. Spoke with support, they got the website builder records deleted off, and I was able to follow the rest of the tutorial - got it serving my github page. THANKS!
Just commenting for the algorithm and to say thank you, this really helped!
Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for helping to bump me up in the algos. Really hoping to reach more developers in 2022!
Just perfect no-nonsense information, thanks alot!
I get nervous when I see comment notifications on this GitHub Pages video because I worry that it's going to get out of date at some point.
Glad it still works!
Great video, thank you! Was having trouble figuring out why my site was giving me "err_cert_common_name_invalid" and just having a look at your DNS settings in GoDaddy helped me realize I should NOT, in fact, have all 4 ip addresses from github listed in 4 A name rows. Probably a rookie mistake, but a solved one!
What's your domain?
Amazing quick to the point video. 10/10 🙌
Thanks for the kind words. I think I'm up to 6 domain names on GitHub Pages now. :) Here's the latest:

Amazing! I was able to set mine up in no time! :) thumbs up X 10000
Thank you man, very precise and to the point.
Thanks for the kind words. Trying to keep my videos short and to the point.
How can I convert the website from HTTP to HTTPS

Always glad to be of service!
please how long did you wait for?
Thank you so much! This helped 100%
Glad this video is still holding up 18 months later. GitHub is changing so fast! Drop the name of your website, Lucia!
Thank you, this is very helpful and it works.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm real happy with how many people found this useful. Post your project's domain name!
Stright to the point! Thanks a million.
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I've been trying to make my videos straight and to the point. Think I'll start zapping the intro soon too. People just want the goods!
Thank you! This saved me. Cheers brother!
I though only Jesus had the power to save? Regardless, if I can help, I'm more than happy to oblige. Here's the site I mapped to my GitHub pages in case anyone was interested:
pickeringisspringfield.com/
cool.. is there any video on ssl setup?
I'm still running without SSL. I know. Shame on me. :(
Thanks sir that was really helpful
Glad I could help! I love how easy GitHub Pages is for quickly publishing a live site.
Thanks sir, very helpful!!
How do I secure the site
Thankyou sir saved my time
Thanks. It helped me a lot. Can I create multiple repositories each different custom domain. Example, repository X to custom domain X, repository Y to custom domain Y etc... Is there any limit?
I've mapped a bunch of domain names to different repos and sub-repos. No limit that I know of. But I'm sure if you're getting lots of traffic they'll ask for some money. And don't violate the GitHub Pages terms of service!
Thanks for the details and very quick response on this. I'll go thru the terms once again
You look handsome!😁 Thank you for the tutorial! on /etc/hosts using nano but I used vim it works too!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm not a big fan of Nano to be honest, but it's the default on the base install, so I use it. If you can't be handsome, you might as well be useful. :)
thank you so much you saved me
Glad I could help! Share your domain name!
this doesnt work anymore
Thanks for letting me know. GoDaddy is always changing their site. One of the reasons I stopped using them. But I've still got a site hosted there. I'll see if I can figure out what changed and post a new video. Thanks!
fantastic !Thank you
Thanks man!
Thanks a lot.
So glad I could help. It's awesome when you get your own domain name working.

I'll accept the compliment!!!
I'm a Java dev, and the ongoing joke in the industry is Java dev's can't design webpages. So I lean into that.
Plus, I have a best-selling book on The Simpsons, and I brand all my stuff in Simpsons inspired color palates.
Did these steps work? This video is getting a bit old.
@@cameronmcnz well I have to tell my client to update my his godaddy settings. Making it for my boss at a restaurant
You are handsome btw
lol. Fact is, I'm far more handy than I am handsome. :) Thanks for watching!
Thank You!
