Final sailings of the Tilbury Gravesend ferry which was due to cease operation on 31st March 2024. However, since 31st March is a Sunday and the ferry does not operate on Sunday, the final day of operation was actually 30th March. The video shows the final two sailings in both directions (so 6:30pm and 7:00pm from Gravesend to Tilbury and 6:42pm and 7:10pm from Tilbury to Gravesend).
All Down to the councils ,there has allways been a good service across the Thames from gravesend to tilbury allways ,hope it will be back soon ,a lot of people depend on the ferry especially school kids ,what inconvenience for them all
Yes - I agree. I believe that Uber Boats by Thames Clippers now own Town Pier at Gravesend with a view to expanding their services out from London to Gravesend so maybe at some point in the future they will provide some type of service across to Tilbury. However, this does not help all the people which require the service now.
It’s so sad that Thurrock council have allowed this to happen. I wished they could have just put the fare up slightly, as return/ multi-crossing tickets were priced very low. I would have happily paid a little more for my ticket to keep the service going. The guys who ran the service were fantastic- always very efficient, helpful and friendly. But of course, the councils always seem to manage to take away anything positive like this that aids the people. I’m disabled and don’t drive, and am now a 3 hr journey instead of 1 hr, from being able to visit my loved ones. Gutted. 😢
Yes - I completely agree. I used the service a number of times and the crew were always very friendly. As you say, there is no easy alternative and the closure of the ferry service is causing hardship for many people.
Yes - agreed. The school pupils and commuters that used this service on a daily basis will be the hardest hit. There must have been a demand for this since Jetstream sold cheaper 10 crossing tickets which were obviously aimed at the regular user.
This is supposed to be one of the richest countries in the world, yet we are told that we cant afford any sort of "public services" like this. Too much public money has been siphoned off into the pockets of a tiny, obscenely rich minority... in my humble opinion.

What a pity. These ferries are such a great service.

A sad day for both sides of the river and those who rely on the ferry for work or family visits.

...and in the meantime the ordinary, everyday person suffers...
