As always guys, thank you so much for your support I can’t tell you how much it means to me. You can of course support the channel by simply watching my videos to the end, reading the viewing the content on The Art Gear Guide and leaving comments along with likes, all for free, you have nothing at all to give and in return I am constantly giving away amazing art sets, free giveaways open to everyone no matter where you live in the world, I pay for postage.
If you would like to support the channel financially, of which all money goes back into buying art supplies to review and improving the production value etc, you can subscribe to my Patreon Channel. For as little as $2 a month you get access to many tutorials, colored pencils, marker, watercolor, pastel, mixed media etc. You can of course subscribe more than $2 a month, as much as $15 per month, but that is up to each individual and I set it at $2 because I wouldn’t everyone to gain access. Ive not added a tutorial in the past few months but I am working on a fantastic Absolute Beginners Guide to colored pencil artists and this has been so widely requested.
Finally, if you would like to follow my day to day personal life and get to know me and my family a bit better, you can click the links below and follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, I also have a Threads and TikTok which if you are on those platforms I’d love to see you over there. I am always adding work in progress images of the art projects I’m working on, photos and video clips of my Siberian Husky Koda and occasionally my family.

Hullo Harry, This is a very nice review and I remember when I did not have the funds for a specialized palette. I just used masking tape to hold my paper in place and then I would scribble my Neocolor II's onto the tape and mix my colors there! I have since purchased the CaranD'Ache multimedia palette and it is very nice piece of equipment! I often set it aside or put it away and use the tape holding my paper down as I did years ago! I did go watch your speed paint and it looks like you use these even more like a true watercolor medium! I used to purchase the 10 or 15 stick sets for my tackle-box that I kept my art supplies in. I used them mostly for covering larger areas on larger paintings or getting big areas blocked in. I could then use my more expensive paints for the top layers and layer in final colors and details without wasting my more expensive paints, I was a very "thrifty" person, especially when I was doing an assignment and not something I really wanted to do or care about! I do have plenty of the Neocolor II's, but I can see me giving these to a nephew or niece and even just 24 colors is enough. I spent years buying just 10 or 15 sticks and mixing all of the other colors I needed. I like the open stock option of the Caran d'Ache products, buying just one color I need or a replacement color I used up is so much better than buying a whole new set! Thanks Harry for showing an alternative to the more expensive options out there! I will say these work great on regular coloring books too!

The Caran d'ache palette is the best small investment. I use it a lot and clean it with a little baking soda. I take it to classes because it slips in my bag.
I like crayons a lot. They travel well.

Thank you for doing this review. These look outstanding. I have always had great experiences with Staedtler’s products. About a million years ago, when I sold art supplies, Koh-i-noor and Staedtler made the professional products for technical artists supplies. Caran D’Ache was considered a children’s art supply company and I caught some heat from my boss for ordering a bunch of products.

You are absolutely right about using a palette with the water soluble crayons and pencils. I've been using nothing but water soluble pencils via a palette for four months and I'm getting fantastic results without the mess of pans. Based on your recommendations, I went with Goldfaber Aqua (48 set) and Albrect Durer (15 open stock) due to budget constraints. I couldn't be happier and they are lightfast. Thanks for all you do for the art community. Love your work!!!

These crayons are the same as the Mungyo Aquarelle crayons, probably manufactured by Mungyo for Staedtler. I really enjoy the quality, use them regularly.

They look like Jaxon crayons as well! Probably a lot of white labeling going on among budget brands.

Oh this was so helpful! I have the Caran d’Arche and I just couldn’t get the hang of it, not sure why using a pallet didn’t come to mind. They’ve just been sitting in the box because of the grainy look. If I added too much water the paper would get jacked up, (I like and use smooth paper). I’ve been waiting to get a watercolor case to put them in, which is how I first saw them used at Disney world, by the caricature artist. Pieces melted into a watercolor case to be used, which was required by Disney.

Beautiful work on the leaves, Harry! I like the idea of a less expensive crayon because it isn't so precious. So am not so conservative with their use. Also, i like those palettes so much, i bought a second one 😊!!
Thank you for the review, i just subscribed so i will get notified on the Lyra vid. Always been curious about them.

Hi Harry. Thanks for the review. I use the Lyra version of these and they are excellent. I usually establish a base layer with water and then create more details with a dry colour. I too use the caran d'ache palette or a small chopping board with these and water colour pencils. I'm looking forward to your comparison video.Take care. Liz ❤️

While I haven't used this brand, though they suspiciously look like mungyo, but I've used soooo many and I think the comparison is best when used as a crayon... NC2 vs others, there is no comparison when used from the stick- so far. Turning them into- basically watercolors- well that's not really a fair comparison. Just my 2c. I hear the Lyra are exceptional though.

Such crayons are quite good for children. But Staedtler does not mention EN71, the rules for toys. Neocolor 2 have the EN71 mark. Maybe you can ask for future reviews the producer about the compliance.

  • @NelaDunato
    @NelaDunato Месяц назад +3

I enjoy using Neocolors and Woodys on toned paper, but these Staedtler crayons wouldn't work for that given how transparent they are even when dry... That's too bad, but understandable at their price.
They look fine when used like watercolor, but for me personally it's the layering and opacity aspect that makes crayons unique, and different from both watercolor paint and watercolor pencils.
It's good that some folks consider this an affordable alternative to Neocolors, but I'll pass!
