    How would YOU use these funky gadgets to help improve your films?

      I got a kit on the way with the double ball head. I'm planning on mounting it to the neck of my guitar and using my GoPro to get a neat "down the neck" angle for a guitar cover I'm planning on doing.

    I have a handful of these and use them for everything from lights, monitors, and microphones, to audio recorders, and even cameras. I took a rode video mic pro and wireless transmitter and put them on one of these clamps to mic a piano once. Super small setup that was easy to hide and pickup good audio. However if you use it for attaching a mic remember to tape (or somehow secure) the metal bar that tightens it down since that can vibrate very easily and the mic will pick it up.
    I've also used them for a multi-cam live switching shoot to get two cameras on one tripod. Had one mini camcorder on top of the tripod like normal getting a close up shot and another one with a close up that was attached to the column. These are FANTASTIC for adding all sorts of attachment points to the legs of tripods.

    I do a shot where I clamp my camera to a drawer and focus it on an important prop to push the story forward so when the drawer opens it makes a more engaging shot than having a static camera on a tripod.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  5 лет назад +1

      Ahh that's really cool! Adding movement like that really makes the audience concentrate on what you are showing them. Have you got the shot online? Would love to see it!

    I've been using one for about a month or so now to mount my Ninja Blade to a tripod arm or leg when doing long form static interviews. Saves the weight on the camera and the monitor is at a sensible height as I often need an apple box when a taller subject (ie everyone on the planet) is on camera.

    I agree that these clamps are well made, BUT those tiny two inch "magic arms" do not work for me the way they do for you. I simply can't get them tight enough to support any weight without swiveling.

    $10 Moviemaking Clamp. We do not film, we video. :-) Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused words in the industry. 🙂 Digital Video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT historical and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. Have pride and knowledge of the gear we use including the words that describe what we do. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers. We do what film wished it could. We are Videographers and/or cinematographers. 🙂 We video or are videoing, we do not film. That's the other RARE professionals who know how to use film and film cameras, like an ARRIFLEX 435 Panavision R-200 and Steenbeck flatbed film editors. Know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will also stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you.✌♥

      Loved the use of elongated shots for added suspense, and the lack of sound other than foley. Created a really nice atmosphere.
      We saw the "creature" before the end which gave us a catalyst for tension, great work! Too many horror films on RUclips want to save the scare JUST for the end, but as Hitchcock says, there is only fear in the anticipation of horror and not the scare itself.
      She faced her fears, which was great to see too! She has only one way to go, and that's where the freight is.
      Not the biggest fan of the ending, but I wouldn't know how to do it any differently, to be honest.
      You crossed the 180-degree line a few times, just something to watch for next time.
      Thanks for sending it through! Loved the tension.

    • @_FridayNightFilms
      @_FridayNightFilms 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks. I wanted the loud build up sound from the title screen to come in and then cut to near silence to give a tense feeling. I had a couple people mention that I needed ambient sound, which I added but I have it toned down to about -20 db. I can hear it fine on my iPhone with the volume up but it's difficult to hear on my laptop. After performing quality control, I catered mostly to the iPhone because over 70% of my views come from phones and tablets. When the ambient noise was high enough for the laptop it was hissing on the iPhone. Same with the blacks. It is much darker on the laptop to the point you can't see the monster in the shadows. But on the iPhone it is much more visible. What db level do you usually use for ambient room tone? Thanks for watching.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  5 лет назад

      Ambient room tone usually sits at about -40dB, with low level sound effects hitting -20dB. But if the dialogue has a lot of noise in the recording, the room tone will be boosted to keep it steady.

    • @_FridayNightFilms
      @_FridayNightFilms 5 лет назад +1

      Okay. I just checked mine and it is -40 in the bathroom shots because of the echo. The other room levels are at -25 and -30. I think the audio comes out a little different with RUclips too though. It all sounds great on my Mac in fcpx but some of the noises aren't as pronounced after exporting.
