- Mockup of the battle ships USS Monitor and USS Merrimac at the battle of Hampton Roads 9th of march 1862.
John Ericsson designed the USS Monitor for the north side in the american civil war, as a response to the south´s USS Merrimac (CSS Virginia).
These mockups are displayed at John Ericsson home town Filipstad, Sweden.

Seriously!?! No one is gonna mention the seagull that sat on the Virginia!?!
Traitor sea gull
i always wondered why the monitor was designed with the smoke stack so close to the turret. They should have had the stack as far away as possible. Looked like the turret had a lot of smoke blown its way
Good video. But remember, it's the CSS Virginia. Not USS.
Also, Merrimac was the name of the ship before it was captured by the Confederates. They changed it to Virginia.
Thanks for posting and please show more if you have other footage. Would like to see!
Good point and when it was the USS merrimac it looked much different than an ironclad
aw yes
my favorite battle
where they did fucking nothing
@generaltodd2 No... But on the weekends they dramatized the battle and their guns were fired. :-)
Gör den? Jag har antagit att de är skalenliga...
So, they didnt move or anything?
Virginia!
I've always had a love affair with this day in history.Eventhou I enjoyed seeing this I just wish it would had been longer with action. These men endured 8 hours of the loudist banging and thick black smoke that is something we leave out when we think of this day.Devotion on both sides is evident to endure what they did.
Haha!
Monitor ser lite liten ut mot Virginia
