    Totally agree on the part on PhD; how with the internet its easier than ever to self study and that education is now a bubble waiting for a correction.

      @Shridhar Sharma He also mentioned that further education is irrelevant. He's just smart. You rude comment.

    • @jazz7946
      @jazz7946 7 лет назад +3

      Drew Brooks So what you're saying is the a person with higher education who's dedicatedly studied a particular subject on an average won't be smarter in that particular field compared to someone who learnt it in parts just from the internet without teachers who were there to assist him?

    • @DrewBrooksPB
      @DrewBrooksPB 7 лет назад +2

      I believe it depends on the person's character. Information is information, a degree-holding professional is not required to make information fact. If a person needs a mentor, making connections through a computer society like ACM or IEEE CS is viable. People have different learning styles, and computer science degrees attempt to force that which is focused on academia, and listening to professors/lecturers. My opinion is that valuable education is delayed due to "core-curriculum" pre-requisites. If a student wants to learn AI, don't force them into Art History first. Essentially, regardless of a student's dedication, their path isn't often negotiable through University. Efficiency is a motif in computing, efficiency should exist in learning as well!

    • @jazz7946
      @jazz7946 7 лет назад

      Drew Brooks That is true but I think they "force" curriculum on us because we have no idea where a problem could arise we learn what is forced because that is also necessary.And about forcing people do to something obviously people who don't want to do something won't be as proficient as someone willing to do it.But I believe that having someone physically there to point to the lack of knowledge is waaaay better than someone on the internet.Nothing beats books and nothing beats unis.

      Miś Koralgol I thought the contrary: Not really a distinction. Science is also trying to explain the unexplained, but isn't the yet. So both are making claims to reality, one of which is based on evidence and the other... 😉

      " both religion and science are trying to understand the world "
      Well if he means a general discussion about the idea of a higher power.
      Then yeah sure.
      If he is referring to monotheism; Christianity, Islam, Judaism.. Absolutely not seeking to understand the world. Seeking to reconcile an absolute totalitarian final word to a world that increasingly knows better.

  • @amdenisgm

    Another great one!!!
    Thank you so much for all the amazing material you put together. I know you work hard to create them, but you also have a real gift for being informative AND entertaining (and obviously cool; but you know that goes without saying).
    I have a quick question on info that I hope may be useful to others. As someone who has programmed since the mid-80's, and done some AI with Scheme, LISP and Prolog in the early days, I am looking for efficient and informative AI/ML/DL materials like yours. I have found some phenomenal ones like Deep Learning TV (YT), Lynda's recent ones and others, but I have also found some really bad, time-wasting ones like the free Udacity's Google Deep Learning one and various others that abound.
    I am so thankful for your great work, some of the amazing recently released books on these subjects, and the high level of interest and support among members of the community. My groups work on a range of media, data and AI projects, as part of AI research and Media Lab centers I founded, where people much more skilled than I work and play; but we get quite a range of specialties and subs, from music theory and writers to data science and sw developers.
    Since we often converge around AI brainstorming and execution ideas, I'm looking for the best informational and training options-- or at least help to avoid some of the really poorly executed ones, since everyone's time is so precious, and this can be so much fun, given the right kind of support.
    Although I know what is "best" depends on a range of subjective and specific focus/ application related factors; but, any recommendations you could provide would be very appreciated-- you have such a great knowledge base and perspective on so many important things (like humor).
    In terms of AI libraries, frameworks and such, we are primarily focused on Tensorflow, PyTorch, and enabling components/extensions, using Python and C++; and materials like yours that combine theory with practical and applied are tremendously useful across a wide range of applications.
    Anyway, thanks again for the mad skills!

      Vaibhav Acharya first make sure you know math up to calculus. Then start from Computer Architecture (very important). Make sure you have crystal clear mental map of how the machine works (cpu, memory, i/o) without any abstractions. If you want to be a good progrmmer you need to know what your program is doing on the lowest level.
