Kevin is a classically trained Cellist. At some point in his younger days he actually auditioned for Yo Yo Mah. That is how Pentatonix found him by his You Video when he was Cello Boxing.
I've watched this like 100 times, it never gets old! But I I had been wishing Kirsty would've gotten a bigger solo, but I just realized that her role here was to serve as the glue between the cello and the rest of the vocals. I now hear her through out the song weaving in and out. We hear Scott typically doing that in other songs, here she is brilliant! It shows how dynamic this group is!

He's played since he was 8, is a Master Cellist and actually has the musical term "Cello Boxing" named after him, as he's one of the rare humans on the planet who can Beatbox and play Cello at the same freaking time. Still not conceding these guys are human, but we'll go with it. You should check out some of Kevin's solo work, he's pretty amazing. This was sick, they absolutely killed this song, I try to hear the original and now I can't, it's been replaced like so many others that PTX get their vocal cords on. ❤️

And, technically, acapella means NO instruments of any kind, for any reason - they rarely use it, so it's "allowed" by most of their fans and peers.

I recommend his cover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me". Kevin's channel is "KO - Kevin Olusola". And if you like Scott's voice, you should check out his first solo EP. Three songs have official videos -- "Mars", "Parallel" and "Four"

They have also said that when they do that, it will be noted publicly in the liner notes via whatever medium that the song is released through. It's rare. Extremely rare. But yes, occasionally they will use an instrument.
This was just so outstanding !! I've even re-watched a few reaction videos of this song just to watch the shock and awe on the faces of some reactors. I'm hoping this either wins a Grammy on it's own or makes another Grammy win for the whole album.

Fully agree with your comment about needing to listen to their videos multiple times in order to catch (mostly) everything. I need at least 3 times. Once for the overall impression, at least once more to focus on the arrangement and background vocals, and one for KO's vocal percussion performance (beatboxing IMO understates what he does).
