Exactly why Josh has a great rep. The other things is all the boutique manufactures know each other. But I dont know if JHS is small-time esp when you look at the number of employees he has. Josh is top-shelf for sure!
Look at peoples boards. Nobody every has all the same brand. Heck, look at the wall behind him! They are aware that people who like wampler and earthquaker also like JHS. I’m sure he would rather we buy an american competetor than some Chinese made knock off
EHX isn’t made stateside though. The boards are made and populated in China, then shipped to NYC where they do final assembly and QC. These three all have the boards made and populated in the US. That’s not a knock against EHX at all, they make great stuff at reasonable prices, just trying to clarify.
@@tylermarshall6180when did that start I wonder? I know they’ve done that for years, but They used to be made in the states. In fact, up until recently (is 10 years recent??) their pedals even said “Made in NYC”. Now it just says “New York City” which a small change of words but big implications.
The plumes is my FAVORITE pedal rn! I’d been running the Soul Food OD from EHX but I needed something else and tried the Plumes and instantly fell in love with it
I built a *very* versatile Tubescreamer clone from a kit costing less than €60, added a 4 way rotary switch to use - beside the stock 808 - different diodes and capacitors.... I'll happily stick with thát baby 😎🤘
They are distortion pedals-don’t come in swinging saying “they’re overdrives!!!” Overdrives distort the audio signal. This is what distortion sounds like. You may get variety in sound with different EQ frequency additions or subtractions, but at the end of the day distortion is distortion. You can increase or decrease gain levels for extra distortion, you can use compression to squash the signal. I guess what I’m saying in a round about way is you can accomplish almost any sound you want with an EQ pedal, a gain pedal, and a compressor. These guitar pedals are variations on the same handful of circuits repackaged with tweaks in features, but mostly EQ. I probably have several mistakes in my logic, so I’m happy to take criticism.
I was at Sweetwater a few weeks ago. I picked up a Wamplee Pantheon delux dual drive pedal. I went into the gear exchange and found one in mint condition. (I have the Box) For $130!!!
Checkout the CKK Lunar Drive. It’s a Dumble in a box circuit, with three voicings. It’s about $100 new. It’s got a nice mid bite, and the three eq’s can give a more full range to more mids focused. It sounds as good as any $199 overdrive I’ve ever played.
I have been wanting the Plumes. I had the JHS screamer. It was great but super noisy. I replaced it with the amazing voodoo lab sparkle overdrive. I stack it with the mxr Timmy. It’s an amazing combo. If i really want to get dirty in gain I click on the jhs rat pack. It’s probably one of the greatest distortion pedals ever made. If I really want some fun I click on my NYC big muff stacked with the rat pack.
Please make clones of the moog pedals. You can even make a crazy batch of April fools moog pedals that actually work. Like the 4:33 that is silent for that long, the Mf/fm that scans radio frequencies and blends them with audio tone, and my favorite the 106tc time compressor. It compresses time so you can hear notes before you play them. Funny thing is if you had an ai or some program that predicted it based on your playing or known songs and patterns, you could mimic that concept. It would be such a great gag gift. And I bet it could also make some really interesting music.
Ordered a Triumph a couple of days ago and I’m super excited for it to arrive. Pro tip: I had it shipped to my workplace so I can sneak it in the house. She’ll never notice something new in the lineup. Disclaimer - No, this isn’t something I have to do. No, neither of us need permission from the other for something in this price range. It’s just a fun experiment.
Ya but the tube screamer is the best addition to an already distorted sound. There’s literally nothing better. I didn’t get it at first until I GOT it. The stacking is just so satisfying. Especially for hard rock and even metal/extreme metal. It’s just the extra umph without making it over head space like a boost. Not really a fan of boost unless it’s to a clean tone
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing at all but every comment section people always talking about how he showcases other pedals besides his own like it’s not his job brothersss💀
I do not like the klon/bad monkey sound. Am I crazy? I know it's all preference, but I just think it sounds old and wirey, rusty.. boring. I'm totally into the ts9 with Ross compressor and boosted mids. Sound so stable and golden.. hella.
Put it against the 3 series overdrive? Or are you talking about the 3 series screamer? Just curious because I’m currently trying to decide between the overdrive and the screamer from JHS 3 series. Thanks ✌🏻
Pretty curious about this, but when are we gonna get something *super original* that's not *influenced,* not *inspired* by something else in the electronic parts of the *pedals* Who else to do it but *JHS* maybe an experiment involving soldering things that had never been attempted before.
@TheTiredHorizon then i guess it's time to make revolution and make a new type of circuit, we can't just stay stuck in the same formula forever, we'd be kidding ourselves to do so. If it ain't broke to fix it yet there's no issue *adding something else to the shelf with the other awesome inventions that have been rolling in through the decades*
It’s like going to a Mexican restaurant and saying “the ingredients you have are meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, cilantro, avocado, and tortillas… why don’t you make something NEW out of those?!?!”. They have already made all the combinations of those things. Sure you could add in some other ingredients that have never been used in Mexican cuisine, but then it kinda stops being Mexican food. There are only so many ways to clip a signal to get overdrive. The different “mother circuits” out there are basically the ways to do it. All the clones are slight mods to that with differing EQ shaping, or different ways to control certain parameters, but there’s only so much variation that can be done. If you start introducing something radically different, in terms of components or circuit design, what you’ll get is something that isn’t overdrive.
@@jeffmansfield914 with Mexican food to get something new out of it you'd have to get out of a *xenophobic stereotype,* *latino* culture has more than what you just said and *we* can be found doing new recipes in food and other *experiments* with different types of things. I gotta buy a Triumph pedal to get my favorite Klon sound Bad Monkey.
I bought the Triumph pedal a few months back. It is good and worth getting for the price.

3 series sales are about to go up😂😂
3 series screamer is great as well. The EQD special Cranker is diverse and another great selection.
Walrus has their own line of $100 pedals now too.

It can really do anything in terms of genre, I love mine
The Plumes, awesome!!
Also, I love the @earthquakersevices Special Cranker. It’s $100 new and sounds so amazing. Genuinely my favorite overdrive.
the 23$ azor overdrive and leon drive are both amazing for the price point as well

The 3 Series Overdrive is in my (almost) All-JHS Board. 🤘🏾😁🤙🏾
I got that plumes. Great little green monster
Ditto for this
Emerson EM-Drive is also a great clean boost/transparent od. Less than $100 on reverb.
EHX East River Drive ❤
thats a TS clone btw
Tried one; didn't care for it. Too much tone suck.
Lol JHS response is so true. My fav overdrive is the boss sd-1, though it’s quite noise. Maybe I’ll try the sd-1w some day.

@jeffmansfield914 its about the bad money comparison meaning circuits are easy and should jot be exploited
The Plumes can do ANYTHING. I use it for everything from deathcore to blues
I do the same with an HM-2 I bought new in 1987. I was not a pedal guy so I just kept playing with it to do everything.
