  • Am I doing OK? How are my kids settling in the new place? What have we been up to in the last year? How is the house coming along? These are a few questions I'll be answering in this video.
If you're new to my channel, welcome to the family and thank you for watching our video!
Here's a little bit about me, I am a wife, a mother of three beautiful kiddos, and a former actress. Following my eldest son (Dylan)'s diagnosis of Autism, I threw myself into learning all there was to learn about Autism and how to help him. After 6 years of research, I wrote my first book 'Coming Home to Autism', with my wonderful friend and brilliant speech therapist, Rhian Grounds. My mission is to help support and empower other parents of special needs children.
If you have topics you'd like me to cover in my future videos, write in the comments below!
We are releasing new videos every Sunday (fingers-crossed) at 9.30 AM GMT, so stay tuned x

Me and my husband we are starting in these amazing journey of autism. Two months ago we found that my daughter is autistic. She’s 2 years old and already start with ABA & Speech Therapy. As a mother you have no idea how all your videos have been helpful and I just wanted to thank you YOU and DYLAN for sharing. That’s great you took some time for yourself and Yes we need to be “OK” to be there for our kids (applauses). Keep going with the good work, YOU GOT THIS.

I would suggest looking a lot into ABA and the principals behind it, as it has caused trauma in so many autistics and in some cases use methods that are really inhuman. A lot of times, it's dog training for autistics to teach them to be more neurotypical. There are a lot of other options for therapy such as occupational therapy which I'd look into if I were you. Not judging you, just hoping that your child will be as safe as possible. :)

My “baby” is now 45. I’ve been there, too. I’ve often thought of it as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). I’m so glad you have friends.
Our lives are often like the sea, it seems. . . The different tides come and go. Sometimes a peaceful glistening sea and then a roaring wave followed by a sweet wave that you can float in. Sometimes I float peacefully, others make me swim for shore.
    Wish I could hug you.
I was so excited to see you back that I answered before I watched all of your video. Missed you and can’t wait to see your kiddo’s video.

In multiple ways as I know you will understand. Questioning myself.. everything. Not knowing where to go or what to do. I am so glad Dylan is well and you are too now. Lockdown was horrific for special needs kids and caregivers. My daughter had to start taking anxiety pills. She is all better now, but it was a journey.

OMG, Tara, what a terrible time you've been through! I'm so glad Dylan's okay and well. I remember Grisha stopped eating and drinking for 24 hours- we were abroad on a holiday, just me and him, and I couldn't do anything about it. Only the idea of going to a hospital and his fear of injections and any devices that come in contact with his body did the trick and little by little he got back to drinking and eating again. Can't imagine how I'd manage what you had to experience for that long.
You're such an amazing person Tara, just want you to know that you guys are always in my heart, we never forgot about you.
    Love,

Glad you are doing much better!
Also I watch as an Adult being assessed, its good to know you are going to talk to Adult ASD. You really don't see that often. Often than not, ASD peoples voices are less important than 'professionals' that as you experienced, never really know anything.
As for Dylan, his own episode, go him!

Often, actual autistics are overlooked, sadly. It's a massive shame, because there really are a lot of great autism advocates who can advocate on a whole different level than a professional; because they're autistic themselves.
Plus, some professionals really don't know what they're talking about, when it comes to outdated knowledge and research. I have friends who have been told to their face that they cannot be autistic because they make eye contact or they're female, by people who are supposed to be professionals. Some of the professionals will also suggest harmful therapies or methods of "bettering the autistic" and it's just disgusting to see people not be accepted. I'm autistic myself and quite lucky to even have a diagnosis; I was told I was neurotypical at age 13, got a diagnosis age 14 in a mental hospital after spending my entire life up until that point not being accommodated, and therefore my mental health taking a crash. The people who worked with me there talked about me being on the spectrum from the moment we first met at a home visit. It was that obvious, but people are just not educated enough.

I can really understand what you might have been through.. though I don't show it up to anyone, I feel both panicked and depressed both if my son has even mild fever.. ❤️❤️

As far as I'm aware, at least where I live, PDA isn't a diagnosis, but rather a profile within the spectrum, which is largely based on anxieties around demands. It's hard to explain what I mean by profile, but basically that it's not a diagnosis in itself.

It's disgusting how you were treated you're a wonderful mum I'm lucky I'm with a good mental health now been put on antipsychotics but had to push for it same when my bpd came to light in 2018 after a s/c attempt and a eight month hospital stay had depression since age 14. Early 2019 was assessed by a psychotherapist had Asperger's test and scored 36 the criteria score for possible Asperger's was 34 so they said there was a 80/ chance if I had formal assessment I'd be on high end of spectrum I've definitely autism traits crossed with bpd and severe depression and intermittent mild psychotic symptoms on top of it all I don't have many friends with bpd and seeming strange sometimes when I think about it what I was like at nursery and school added toattatchment anxiety and autism I didn't mix with other kids didn't want mum to leave me cried all time in nursery school was no better I also suspect I had dstphsia as a child the one where executive function an issue and Nath difficulties I would say now at 49 I'm proberly still at 14 age in maths executive function and logical reasoning is horondous if you want to lose something give it to me I'd lose it no problem thank god I'm not in USA cos if I witnessed a crime wrong person would be put to death as I can see you on screen but ask me two hours later what you look like not a chance paronis an issue also am enjoying watching your videos you're a lovely mum to Dylan and your other kids there so lucky to have you I miss my mum who died in 2014 I'd cared for her solely for 20 years my life fell apart when she died and still has good luck with all

Welcome back! You have been missed very much. I’m sorry about Dylan’s health scare & issues with food but so glad he’s doing well. Also sorry to learn about your personal mental health issues & ultimate “collapse” but so happy you’re better now. I’m looking forward with anticipation to your, and Dylan’s, future vlogs. 😬. Love to you and your family from the PNW (Pacific Northwest) USA. 🥰🤗🇺🇸
