- Hunting the old LNER milepost signs on the busy high speed train line north of York, in a 10-mile section there's the halfway mark, a 200 Miles to Edinburgh sign and a 200 Miles to London Sign. In this video, I try my hand and focus on the signs and building Railway Photography compositions around these railway signs and the high speed trains running on the East Coast Main Line.
Plenty of high speed East Coast Main Line (ECML) trains to enjoy on this busy stretch of railway.

Another great vid with fantastic photos. I appreciate that you only include the main bits needed to tell the story of the forth coming shots and no waffle.
Many thanks, i do appreciate that, its a challenge of how much to keep in a video, I could easily make the videos twice as long, but I do try to keep them moving without getting too boring (hopefully!).
Fantastic as ever, Andrew.
Thank you, Peter, really appreciated.
Excellent again Andrew, some fantastic shots as always.
Many thanks Darren, it'll be one to revisit when the weathers not so dull.
Excellent video again Andrew.
Many thanks Martyn.
Great vid again sir 👍
Thanks again John.
Some brilliant shots and love how they been flipped as well. Feel sorry for the people travelling to London and now going back to Aberdeen thanks to flipping the image 🤣
Great video
Many thanks, Simon, amazing what can happen with the click of a mouse!
Another great informative video. Clever little tricks in photo shop. Love the way you plan all these shots. It must take some time to get all this together. Oh by the way, love the wellies.
Thanks, Keith, the wellies are new, hopefully stopping me bringing home half of North Yorkshire on my walking boots. There wasn't so much planning on this one, I kind of made it up as I went along, however some photo trips I do quite a lot of planning.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it - appreciated.
Always a pleasure watching your videos; the explanations of what you're trying to achieve and the final shots. Keep 'em coming!
Much appreciated, John, I'm pleased you're enjoying the trips out.
I enjoyed that Andrew - just wondered if you will be doing 'signed' copies!
Thanks Brian, I'm putting some thoughts together - so watch this space.
Great shots as usual, nice to see you in my location. Did go for a coffee in The Sidings at Shipton?
Many thanks, I didn't realise the Sidings just did coffees, I'm a National Trust member so it was lunch at Benningborough Hall this time.
Miss seeing and hearing the hst valenta.
Me too, miss the HST on the main line.
@AndrewShenton I think you have named the camera that you use when you take photographs of these amazing trains but what camera do you prefer if you use different ones?
For all my photography I'm currently using a Canon Mirrorless EOS-R which is now nearly 4 years old, so I'll be looking for a replacement at some point, I use a selection of cameras for video.
Interesting video. Not really a trains more in to aircraft
Great video liked and subscribed 😊
Thanks for the sub, that's appreciated, trains and railways in general are my thing to keep me out of trouble.
@Andrew Shenton - Railway Photography super cool !
Same as me my drones keep me out of trouble 🤣
May I ask what editor you use for your videos please?
You can, I'm using I-movie, the video editing program that come with a Mac.
I bet you haven't got a video of the sign a mile or so outside Berwick station..." crossing the border between England and Scotland 🏴
No, but that stretch of line is on my to do list.
@@AndrewShentontrust me it's worth getting.
Andrew - thanks for another great video . Brilliant photography and brilliant locations.
Cheers Kev
Many thanks Kev, I do enjoy this part of the ECML.
Another excellent video......btw Andrew, what camera do you use on the video recording shots ?
On this video I used my old DSLR a Canon EOS70D and a DJI pocket for the time-lapse shot, I sometime films bits with a phone too and edit it all together.
Nice video Andrew. Especially like that 60 on the biomass but I would be biased towards that 😁
Thanks Ben, a nice bonus getting the 60 although looking later I'm not sure if they were empty coal wagons coming back from Drax.
I accidentially found your channel and i'm very suprized. I am railway photographer too, but in Poland :)
Love your videos
Thank you very much, greetings to Poland.
I came down the ECML today from Edinburgh and wondered if you'd ever thought about the stretch north of Berwick where the line hugs the coast for several miles? It's great seeing how you think about the shots you take. Very inspiring.
Many thanks, Adrian, the stretch just north of Berwick is on my to do list, I travelled up to Scotland last year and did a bit of scouting, hopefully I get to it this year. Glad you found something useful in the video.
Another brilliant piece of filming. Stayed at the Sidings in Shipton close to the sign. Location was ace especially the black and white shots. Thanks for sharing and defo look forward to the next one
Many thanks Adrian, I’m going to have to stop at the Sidings one day.
Another great video andrew, got some great pictures 🎉🎉🎉
Glad you like them, Mark, it was a bit duller than I would have liked the light was very flat.
Another super video Andrew, look forward to the next one, would be interested in your post processing as I love the look of your images
Thanks Steve, I'm thinking about doing something on the image processing, I've not thought it completely through yet though.
Andrew, have you thought about a vid for beginners to rail photography ?
There’s a few videos that I’m thinking about, I’ll add that to the list.
Nicely put together Andrew! Some great stills too.
Thanks Andy, I do enjoy those old LNER signs, one day I’ll hunt out some more.
Another great video,I see more trees will probably ruin the shot in a few years time in this area.
Thanks, Rob, I did notice the small woodland next to the northbound side, in a few years there'll be no silhouettes of the sign.
Hi Andrew! Myself and Devon just finished this. Loved it, really well done mate. Any chance you could do Barnetby in the future?
Many thanks, I've a couple of spots in North Lincolnshire on the list, I do want to cover the freight coming out of Immingham, so sure, Barnetby will be covered - don't know when I'll be doing this one yet though.
@@AndrewShenton let me know as I'll come 🙂
Excellent stuff as ever
Thanks Mark, appreciated once again.
I really like that last one Andrew superb thought and working out. Regards Peter
Many thanks Peter, it was a bit of luck the camera stopped the train where it did, my camera has quite a slow burst rate, so the train does travel quite a distance between shots.
@@AndrewShenton I did not realise that it was only 8fps if that is the case then even more kudos to you. My Olympus EM1X is capable of 18fps even with my old 4/3rds lenses.
Brilliant photos and videos as usual, Andrew. Always like seeing the ECML.
Many thanks, I do like this stretch of the East Coast Main Line from his legacy of the racetrack section.
Wonderful work Andrew. The mono image of the half way signs perfectly aligned and the Azuma is outstanding. Really interesting and informative and creative. Great work as always 👍😊
Many thanks, Andrew, I would have liked a colour version of those signs, but with the dull conditions and limited light it just had to be mono.
Brilliant video Andrew, thank you. I love the creative thinking you apply to each shot. Those signs are iconic and really do explain the story. Wished I had looked them out on my recent visit to The Sidings!
Thanks, Steve, the 200 mile to Edinburgh is so close to the Sidings and next to the road side, one to look out for next time, perhaps.
@@AndrewShenton so close! I will plan better next time!
