I've got a take for you!! Let me be clear, I am NOT about to start trashing Akira Ifukube!! He is one of my favorite composers of all time for his work on the Godzilla series. He obviously wrote the definitive musical themes for most of the kaiju in the series, and I am always giddy when I hear his music accompanying its respective monster. He is to Godzilla what John Williams is to Star Wars. HOWEVER!!! When talking about the music for the Godzilla series, I wish people would throw some due respect to the other composers that have lent their voice to the series! For starters, Michiru Oshima!! She wrote three of the best soundtracks in the entire franchise, those being for Megagurius and the Kiryu films. She could have just used Ifukube's theme for Godzilla, but instead, she took a shot and wrote a new theme for him. Instead of the in your face fanfare of Ifukube's theme, her Godzilla theme is subtle and creepy at the start before ramping up. Her theme for Mothra in Tokyo SOS is beautifully majestic and melancholy. And IN MY OPINION, she managed to out do Ifukube with her theme for MechaGodzilla, writing (again, in my opinion) the definitive theme for Godzilla's metallic doppelganger! And it's not just her! Masaru Sato's scores for films like Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1974 manage to convey a lighter tone while still feeling fun and action packed! Also love the moments of tender sweetness in Sato's score for Son of Godzilla. Alexander Desplat, Bear McCreary, and Junkie XL have all shaped their own cool vibes and themes for the MV!! Hot take, but I don't hate Junkie XL's theme for Godzilla. Is it Ifukube? No. Is it still catchy and work for the character? In my opinion, yes. Shiro Sagisu's score for Shin Godzilla is incredible with pieces like Persecution of the Masses, Who Will Know, and Black Angels, conveying the apocalyptic horror of that films Godzilla. Naoki Sato's subtle score for Minus One always gets me misty eyed with tracks like Divine, Elegy, and the unnamed and unreleased track that plays when Shikisima tells Noriko about what he saw on Odo Island Kow Otani's kickass one off score for GMK, Takayuki Hattori’s emotional, cosmic, and epic score for Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla (as well as Godzilla 2000 and the anime trilogy), Koichi Sugiyama's unsettling and tragic score for Biollante, Reijiro Koroku's understated but powerful score for '84, and others I may very well be forgetting!! I'm sorry this is so long and I'll understand if you can't read it all in a video lmao. I'm a composer myself, so I'm really passionate about these brilliant composers getting their due love. To summarize my hot take: Is Akira Ifukube the most important musical voice for Godzilla? Yes. Is he the only musical voice that has mattered in the series? No. There are others and they deserve more love and respect!! 😄
I’m not saying that Adam’s take was trash but I’m just voicing my opinion. Don’t get me wrong GvK and GxK were fun but the movies were way too quick without the plot
I felt like for GvK that was acceptable. Most people including myself wanted to see them fight and that’s it. GxK is not great and I felt like I had watched the Monarch series for nothing.
@ not really. Sure it underdid the human side of things but the kaiju having their own stories with visual sequences was actually fun and elevated the films a little more than people give them credit for.
Hot take: I think, in my opinion, Godzilla Minus one did some damage to the community. Dont get me wrong, the movie is amazing, but with all those video essay videos trashing on the Monsterverse because there are not, the same movies is making me kinda worried. I could be wrong non the less.
What? The MonsterVerse did WAY more damage to the community and brought out WAY more toxic people than Minus One. All Minus One provoked were a few dumb video essays by non-fans that reunited actual fans to defend Godzilla.
I really think that wingard is not a bad guy but he didnt need to change what godzilla 2014 and kotm have build up, since he kinda took realism and made it to sci fy crazy mazy
@@Dawid_zg my guy it ain’t like gxk didn’t have any serious moments in Skar kings lair and how he killed anyone who disobeyed representing different tyrants.
@bintasenghore3321 yeaaa thats one percent of the movie what about barbzilla (just kidding) and dumm human characters, no Military or othere forces at all and just to remind of the many people, who die in the final fight, wich where just forgotten
I honestly don’t believe that Godzilla is out of character in Adam Wingard's films. Ultimately, what Godzilla does is still focused on protecting Earth; he’s just portrayed as much more aggressive compared to previous films. Claiming that Adam Wingard ruined Godzilla also seems like a rather childish accusation. While I won’t pretend that his films are flawless-they certainly have their issues-Wingard did not ruin Godzilla in any way.
@@TheKaijuKing54 more aggressive indeed, but I still dont get why he would attack Kong for no reason in Egypt when they both saved each others backs back then and Kong ain't really the destructive Titan like Godzilla knows he is, if Godzilla is that intelligent enough to distinguish friend or foe like a lot of people claim him to be.
@@Bluecat089I think the idea was he and Kong had an agreement that Kong stays in the hollow earth and by surfacing and alerting Godzilla, Godzilla took it as a violation of their truce. They were in a bit of a hurry to get him back down there at the start of the movie.
@@MataNui. I mean could be true, but i thought Titans have their own language to communicate with each other cuz Kong showed no signs of aggression but seeking help and yet Godzilla understood Mothra and other titans pretty well.
No. That's all I gotta say. We can debate that simple fact, but there's literally no need. GXK is the highest grossing Godzilla/Kong/MonsterVerse film to date, and it wouldn't even be close to that number if people didn't actually like the film.
As someone who genuinely hates Wingard's direction, I don't think the guy hates Godzilla at all, he seems to be a big fan and I'd like to meet him in real life, but it's true that he took away what made this Godzilla stand out from the rest of versions of the character in my opinion
It still kind of stands out, and even though it's gone a long way, it doesn't take away the "unique" factor of the monsterverse compared to other eras.
@Still.the.best.2021 Idk man, this Godzilla is "unique" due to all the lore building behind him that was been overshadowed in favor of CGI spectacle in the last two films. He's not just a giant angry monster that just wants to sleep like in GxK, he's an ancient creature whose existence has been written in various myths and legends around the world
@BJAllo All based on the point of view of humans at the time, and even so, it doesn't change that Godzilla "just wants to sleep", ALL GODZLLAS WANT TO, and apparently it seems that Toho has a hand in this
@@Still.the.best.2021 That's literally the point considering these movies focus on humans (at least until GxK), and the problem here is that GxK made that the plot for Godzilla when there were more interesting options to explore and not just "ANGRY KAIJU WANTS TO SLEEP", they could have been more original or at least they could've handle that plot better
@BJAllo But didn't he? It's not just that, that's just the part, he did it for the good of the planet and he even restored the climate with the energy that was left, besides the focus here is not him in himself
Hot take: What brings down the Monsterverse post-GVK is that Legendary is following up GODZILLA VS KONG with strictly more Godzilla/Kong crossovers when they can easily do regular Godzilla films and King Kong movies without doing crossovers BEFORE they do a crossover sequel.
Can I make another Hot Take? I think Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster is underated! It has a fun adventure story with the characters exploring a dangerous island while spying on terrorists to rescue the lead's brother, dynamic characters who learn to get along for the greater good, and amusing comic relief! Because it has a unique and ente human story, it's one of my top 10 favorites to watch overall!
With GxK, I have a few things to point out. 1)Does feel like a showa film, which in all honesty they work more like a tv show. And I for one don’t want to see too much of the Monsterverse in fear it will just get milked. 2)Apparently GxK was just supposed to be a solo Kong film. Godzilla was added later for more views, which is why it’s more ‘Kong with Some Godzilla’ 3) Let’s not forget that Toho owns Godzilla, which means more money will go to them (why we’ve only seen 4 Toho monsters so far) when Godzilla is used. Plus, Kong feels more fit to have human-like characteristics than Godzilla. 4) Speaking of Toho, I heard they have restrictions for Godzilla such as to never let him die and to make him the only one of his kind. It sounds like it goes against both how the Monsterverse works and the past Godzilla films ….. because it does.
Most of the original monster/titan designs in the Monsterverse don't really fit the Godzilla/Kong astatic of being prehistoric creatures & i wished most of the new monsters had more of a dinosaur/prehistoric feel to them much like Godzilla & Kong do. I don't really understand how for example Skull Island is just filled with these conveniently deadly creatures instead of dinosaurs. And yeah, i'm a bit biased considering i like those whacky Toho monsters like Gigan & Megolon.
Even MonsterVerse is love by many people but it does have problems like it's trying be like showa movies which they shouldn't they should make it as it's own thing or make it like Heisei movies, the second problem is they use same elements from Batman vs Superman for GVK especially team up part and third problem is Skar King doesn't felt like a threat he's more like punching bag after seeing GXK
Agreed in everything. If I want to watch a movie with a Showa tone, I just watch a Showa film lol GvK handled the introduction of the rivalry between Godzilla and Kong horribly, making the build-up to the conflict feel mediocre in my opinion And Skar King was indeed a punch bag
I actually like Snyder's DC, but BvS is a good comparison. Following Man of Steel with BvS was a head scratcher much in the same way that going straight from Godzilla to Kong and then GvK taking over the series felt like a questionable choice (for me, anyway).
I don't know that it's Wingard so much as the choices that got us there. We knew going in that there would be a Godzilla vs. Kong, but I always figured that would be a one and done and then we'd get on with the proper monster goodness. I loved that Godzilla took itself seriously, and I also loved the tone of KOTM, which was a little more out there but still had a serious tone IMHO. Kong was fine and GvK was overtly silly, but fun for what it was. But now it's the GvK series instead of a Godzilla series with Kong making an appearance, and it's all tongue in cheek. It's a choice and they've made it. I wish they had gotten Kong out of their system and then gone on with other things and back to more serious tones.
i Kinda agree tho, to be fair been Godzilla movies i kinda feel like the best solution for the Monsterverse is Start Fresh from GVK and just let Wingard do his owen thing.
i figured out the center of the issue with his films that is a little issue that normally isnt too bad but he does it too much. the issue is he does a lot of just because stuff like with the mecha godzilla power thing that dosnt make any sense or the mothra thing in gxk he added just because his dad liked the character or the heav ships being already made with everything they would need through both films this type of stuff that normally can be ignored but is relied on too much causing things to feel lazy and with the more focus on kong you feel it extra with goji. if instead gxk was just a kong film and we remove all the jia chosen one bring back mothra stuff remove goji outside the mentions of him fighting on the surface and let it be a kong film it would have let the godzilla stuff to be better represented in another film i also feel like the world at large suffered similarly as now with some of this tech that makes little sense like how they have the heav ships that just seem to do everything jia who has some majic power with new mothra that hurts the overall struggle and losses of others that may not be front and center but still impactful. like for mothra and her sacrifice for goji against ghidorah, now its void as it wasnt real mothra that goji goes way back with or does he even go way back with her also the statement of he as queen of the monsters and now that egg is meaningless as there is a bigger one so why do we need the little one. also gojis overall connection to her was damaged because now she is more connected to jia who is this savior chosen one so no need to ever use any military ever again if you have a little girl who has two kaiju one with a robot hand that just happened to have a cure for frost bite when needed. and all caused by these little things just because fixable by pulling back a little and not committing to more than you can do
I have no idea, Godzilla has always had varying tones. Sometimes in the same series, millennium and showa for example. So it's hard to really say that I consider "ruining" him.
Well, I'll honestly say that Godzilla vs Kong, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire were lackluster. The plot didn't make sense. The whole hollow earth right in the middle was ridiculous. I remember staring at my wife and she was confused, as was I. I didn't see The New Empire till later. It was even worse. However, I did like the young character who was mute. And how she sign language with Kong. I thought the first three films were great. (Godzilla 2014, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters) But after that, I'll be glad of a new director.
I'll say this. What we got with godzilla helped breathe some fresh air into the MV. It kept things fresh with different twists and motives and, to me, made things exciting. Whether it was for better or worse, it all depends on the person. I, for one, really loved what we had, and I'm excited to see what the next director does for the G Man! Let's hope lore stays a bit consistent, though.
While I’m not a big fan of Mr. Wingard’s interpretation of Godzilla or the Monsterverse he chose to take some risks with the series and characters in ways we haven’t really seen before. Some ideas aren’t the greatest and/or don’t reach their full potential but I could still respect some of his creative choices. It’s not what I’d want from the Monsterverse but he has shown that he respects the franchise and wants to push it in new and interesting directions. So no I wouldn’t say he ruined the Godzilla series, I’m a little bummed that we won’t finish his trilogy but at the same time I’m looking forward to what future Director’s have in mind for the Monsterverse and Godzilla.
I think saying ruined is really pushing it, I loved gvk and Gxk but I also do understand the criticism. I do want toe Kotm Godzilla back. Godzilla was kind of a douche in Gxk. I love seeing Godzilla going around and kicking ass but I do miss the more protector side of Godzilla. Godzilla’s ego has gotten a little too high and the next villian really needs to kick his ass to have Godzilla change. I really hope we see that in the sequel.
(0:41) I agree, I don't think Adam Wingard ruined Godzilla iver (maybe he picked the wrong color for Godzilla's evolved form but thats another story lol). Granted I don't think he is the best director in the series so far but I did really enjoy the last movie he made and it does seem like he's trying to respect the original source material and the Godzilla franchise as a whole (unlike some other directors out there). The only problem I have with him is that he tends to flip flop on some of the lore or info in regards to the Monsterverse. 🦖🎬🎥🎞🖥 (2:09) Based. I haven't seen the movie yet iver but im still interested in checking it out and to give the movie a fair shot as well. While im not expecting it to be as good or possibly even better than the first movie, I at least hope its decent enough to were it justifies in being a worthy sequel to the first film. Also im kinda indifferent when it comes to musicals, granted it kinda depends on the movie because theres defiantly a handful of movies that I like that have big musical numbers with catchy songs. 🃏🕺🤡💃🎼
I like Godzilla's characterization except maybe in GxK and fully agree that these movies do struggle with the sense of scale of these characters. I think Godzilla IS THE KING and he knows it, not tolerating any challenge. He should be a part of nature at first, passive even, but when provoked or challenged, he should be pure and unrelenting anger. Or at least that what Godzilla usually means to me, the pure, unstoppable anger of nature against man and monster alike, grudge-holding and unforgetful. Of course there are a ton of Godzillas with their own interpretation, but talking about Monsterverse Goji. Also, Komunga and Kamakuras I'd say are probably better than Gabara or even Minia at times.
@@UG3017 Mfkers know damn well they should hate something to love something so they can (at least) properly Improve something we love about this franchise yet they don't give any (logical) explanation/thoughts on what makes them so bad.
He didn't ruin him. He completely disregarded him for a b list monkey, and what's worse is it happened after KOTM a top 5 Goji and it has nothing to do with cgi, but how KOTM respects Godzilla in it's script, in its soul
Is this really a topic of debate when Roland Emmerich stands as definitive proof for what happens when you give the IP to someone who genuinely does not care for the source material? All the MonsterVerse movies are a far cry from what we got 26 years ago, the movies we wish we would've gotten. The passionate fans turned directors we had hoped had helmed the project instead. Also, personally, I actually like the direction the MonsterVerse has taken, especially under Wingard's management. Growing more fantastical with each new installment is nothing new in the Godzilla franchise, and I'm glad Adam fully embraced the really fun side of the long-running series. I actually _wanted_ the MonsterVerse to head down this current path, and I sincerely would do no different if I were given the wheel. They're the American Godzilla movies I and many other fans always wanted, to be perfectly honest. Besides, the MonsterVerse Godzilla's characterization in general is no different from Toho's Godzilla. In fact, people forget just how involved Toho is when it comes to the American branch of the franchise and make sure the character stays as close to theirs as possible, so Godzilla being a hothead is actually well within character. Hell, I'll go as far as to say MVGoji is possibly the most developed iteration of the character to date.
Well he didnt ruined godzilla But he pandorred to king kong way more then he should have And he ruined mechagodzilla just for the sake of kingkong which feels more like a studio move then a narrative choice and that ruined Godzilla vs kong for me. I haven't seen godzillaXkong but from what i have heard, king kong is the main focus and godzilla is sidelined. And thr human characters are boring to watch in these movies, 2014 had great human characters 2019 had weaker ones but the rest are insufferable So yeah wingard isnt a bad director but he isnt great either for the future of monsterverse. I hope we get a new director for the 2027 movie.
Mechagodzilla was well done in my opinion, I mean he was wasted in one movie but it was well done. We also do have a new director for 2027, that was announced almost 6 months ago.
In my opinion none of the Monsterverse’s Godzilla movies are perfect. While there are many problems with GxK there is a lot of be desired about it. Same goes with Gareth and Michael’s films. And anything but Michael coming back to the Monsterverse, while he did Godzilla himself well the rest of the movie cancels the whole thing out.
Ok Godzilla character has not changed. Like GVK Godzilla was mainly attacking apex because of the dangers of Mecha Godzilla with ghidorah's head by the way but he did attack kong for no reason. GXK Godzilla literally was being challenged by Scylla, Tiamat, and Kong. So he had fight to keep order. While his main goal is to get stronger no matter what to fight Shimo to protect the earth. The only thing that might have changed is Godzilla as a species but thats mainly toho deal with the monsterverse.
I regret that Wingard didn't follow through with the set-up at the end of KOTM, which would have had Kong facing off against waves of Titans invading Skull Island, leading up to the boss fight with Godzilla. And I regret that he had too much of a Godzilla bias in GvK... But I enjoyed GxK as stupid fun. So overall... 🤷
I mean Adam Wingard didn't ruined Godzilla but he didn't do him justice as much as he did with Kong, you're right in the sence that he made Godzilla have more personality but he did too little with that, he apears, acts like a brute and leaves, so no, i dont think that he didn't completly ruined Godzilla he just under-use him
I think the only thing that sucks is how now it's always going to be Godzilla x Kong which is starting to get boring. I'm sick and tired of these little Kong glazer pricks that are taking over the fanbase that is Godzilla's.
I have a take I think that Godzilla singular point is underrated well, it does have flaws many flaws, it would, take a true Albert Einstein to comprehend most of it sure but in my opinion it has some of the best kaiju designs in the franchise especially anguirus Jet jaguar Salonga and Godzilla. Godzilla Ultima is my personal favorite Godzilla design. And successfully revitalizes obscure an underused, kaiju as well like anguirus Manda jet jaguar, and kumonga Am I being biased? Probably feel free to disagree with me.
I'd say Adam only reversed Godzilla back into his goofy showa style, not much plot and a lot of goofy monster fights at best. I'm not really a big fan of those type of films and always prefer the darker toned films that have a lot more plot to it like Minus One, 1954, Shin, and GvD. Imo the newest MV film is not only the worst MV film but it is one of the worst godzilla films on my list, and places right beside 1998 Godzilla along with some showa films like Son of Godzilla.
Have you seen the orginal beetlejuice movie if so and if you did saw beetlejuice beetlejuice aka beetlejuice 2 what's your thoughts about this long waited sequel
Tbb, yes. The original writter fro the first mv goji film did better. And so did the writter for 2019. Adam was doing good in 2021. But f*cked it up in 2024. (My opinion honestly:/).
2019 wasn’t that great tbh. So many stupid jokes purposefully put into suspenseful or awe inspiring scenes, and very forced villain arc in Emma Russel.
If Im being honest, he did a really good job with both the movies. But GxK didn't have the world building that the rest did, it just had the same setting same knowledge and a different villain. It didn't have the emotion in the battles either, the hype of the battles wasn't there either.
I kinda feel that Michael and Adam turned Monsterverse into americanized version of showa era. Now, I'm not saying it's too bad but I like the serious and dark tone of Godzilla(2014) and Kong:Skull Island. In the end it's a problem that almost every Godzilla era suffered. Showa started as dark and gritty then became goofy as hell. Heisei started the same, then kinda fell in between but ended up properly. Millennium was a mistake in the first place as both G.I.N.O and Godzilla 2000 sucked. The only good movie from this era was GMK. Reiwa started with a bang, remained on the top until slowly going downwards with KOTM and GxK movies. But with the arrival of Minus One, I think it's time for Legendary to bring back Edwards of someone who can handle the sci-fi+fantasy angle of current scenario while adding a more dark grounded vibe into the Monsterverse.
I personally don’t see a goofy aspect close to Showa in KotM. I mean there is a terrorist releasing a world ending monster which proceeds to call upon others to do the same. And as for millennium, I would not call the entire era a mistake, that’s just crazy. Just because you did not like the entire set of movies, does not make them bad. You clearly just like different kinds of movies.
Hard agree for sure. I find it very funny whenever people clamor for the tone and story of KOTM, as if it was some kind of masterwork of fiction in any way.
@@DiogenesOfMashadit’s funny especialy bwvause KotM was full of stupid attempts at being meta alongside poorly timed jokes next to cutting away from the fight scenes every 10 seconds (and these people praising KotM always complain about 2014 cutting away so much)
I like how wingard made godzilla more of a force to be reckoned with other than a guardian that's just there to restore the balance of nature. Not saying I don't like the Gaurdian take on him, but I feel like everyone should know godzilla is a force to be reckoned with.
I personally don’t think Adam ruined Godzilla I think he did a pretty good job I’m not a huge fan of the fast paced story in his Godzilla films but the fights with Godzilla and Kong were amazing to watch I think Adam also did a pretty good job on the sequel to because we get to see the monsters take over the story telling and it shows off there personalities if this one thing I have to be negative about it be GVK I’m not a fan of mechagodzilla in that movie the design is cool but I really think they should have saved it for another Godzilla film because I would have loved to see a Godzilla vs mechagodzilla film plus I think Michael and Edward’s were probably the best directors for these films also unpopular opinion Michael was much better then Edward’s mainly because he did a lot of stuff more interesting like having some breathtaking shots the iconic Godzilla theme the fights the monsters are well written and the soundtrack is peck and I dont find the humans characters to be that bad there not as annoying as the Kirby’s from Jurassic park 3 and they matter to the story and unlike 2014 characters which is why Godzilla king of the monsters and Godzilla minus one are the best films ever made
I think a lot of people who put hate out towards wingard just misunderstand Godzilla. He can be wildly different from movie to movie in pretty much every era but millennium. It sucks to see your favorite character be an antagonist, but I think it comes along with team up movies to have a bit of tension between leads to make in interesting dynamic The showa era changed the tone almost every film, I think GxK's biggest failure is in the humans. I like the acting, set design and costumes in some showa movies more than the monsters, you lose all that interest in GxK and especially GvK.
@@BJAllo that’s not what I’m saying. I just think that in the MV it’s fine to throw some wack in here and there. I like the serious and the silly. I think that we don’t need another Showa era. But I’d like a few Showa styled movies here and there
Don't listen to this person. He hates suitmation and likes blackarooni. Anybody with those two opinions shouldn't be taken seriously. They aren't real fans.

@@Kiryu-we2ob but the best Mechagodzilla song ever , Showa is always classic and nice so I won’t compare to respect . Gvk mechagodzilla’s theme >>> any other and it’s not even close
I think he did not ruin Godzilla, but I think he kinda overdid it with the action and realism. I feel like what makes the Monsterverse so great is that we really get a sense of how massive and how large the Kaiju really are compared to humans, but with Wingard’s movie we don’t get a sense of that majesty and oomph
In my opinion, Adam wingard is kinda doing the MV justice, Gareth Edwards and Michael Dougherty did godzilla's story, and it's kinda ended Godzilla is king of the monsters after 2019 but kong on the other hand needed more story than alone monki does punch, Adam gave kong emotion and understanding and someone he needs to take care of that being jia and in GXK he found his new home with his own kind, so if you think about it both Godzilla and Kongs story are already perfect as they are in my opinion But maybe we could get more story for other characters such as Shimo,Mothra,Rodan and Suko or add new or toho kaiju such as Angirus, Biollante , Orga and even Zilla to make new stories or add new stakes and challenges for the existing kaiju in the MV.
Wingard went way too deep into Showa territory with his 2nd film, imho. And he did make Godzilla into a mindless berserker bully. Not only that, but the whole Kong in Middle Earth with other giant apes came off too much like a Planet of The Apes film, and without humans, buildings, tanks, jets, etc. in the same shot with Kong and the other apes, it lost all sense of scale. However, the reason I prefer Wingard's 2 Godzilla/Kong films is because we finally got clear views of the titans, and for me that's huge. Plus, his fight scenes were much better choreographed (again, imho). Yes, Edwards and Dougherty may have done a better job personality-wise with Godzilla, but - especially with G,KOTM - every shot of every monster was obscured by wind, rain, snow, smoke and darkness. It was frustrating, and the main reason I've never given G,KOTM a 2nd viewing.

Hot take: I think, in my opinion, Godzilla Minus one did some damage to the community. Dont get me wrong, the movie is amazing, but with all those video essay videos trashing on the Monsterverse because there are not, the same movies is making me kinda worried. I could be wrong non the less.
100% agree. The fandom wasn't nearly as toxic until that movie came out.
It did damage to the mv community but not to the overall Godzilla fandom

I honestly don’t believe that Godzilla is out of character in Adam Wingard's films. Ultimately, what Godzilla does is still focused on protecting Earth; he’s just portrayed as much more aggressive compared to previous films.
Claiming that Adam Wingard ruined Godzilla also seems like a rather childish accusation. While I won’t pretend that his films are flawless-they certainly have their issues-Wingard did not ruin Godzilla in any way.
Good take

Same! I also thought it was fun.
@@levigifford3871 They should have went with the original idea of making it a Kong film.
With GxK, I have a few things to point out.
1)Does feel like a showa film, which in all honesty they work more like a tv show. And I for one don’t want to see too much of the Monsterverse in fear it will just get milked.
2)Apparently GxK was just supposed to be a solo Kong film. Godzilla was added later for more views, which is why it’s more ‘Kong with Some Godzilla’
3) Let’s not forget that Toho owns Godzilla, which means more money will go to them (why we’ve only seen 4 Toho monsters so far) when Godzilla is used.
Skull Island did a crime against humanity by TEASING dinosaurs but not actually giving us one.
I would say no, and I'm not, but after both GVK and especially GXK, I do firmly believe that Wingard is more team Kong than team Godzilla.
I thought he liked Godzilla more, but oh well.
He CLEARLY has a Godzilla bias.
@@MonsterKidCory he literally gave Godzilla 8 minutes of screen time and made Kong the main character
If I want to watch a movie with a Showa tone, I just watch a Showa film lol
GvK handled the introduction of the rivalry between Godzilla and Kong horribly, making the build-up to the conflict feel mediocre in my opinion
And Skar King was indeed a punch bag
I think Adam was not bad but he did ruin the lore of the monsterverse bc now it is very confusing
i Kinda agree tho,
to be fair been Godzilla movies i kinda feel like the best solution for the Monsterverse is Start Fresh from GVK and just let Wingard do his owen thing.
i figured out the center of the issue with his films that is a little issue that normally isnt too bad but he does it too much. the issue is he does a lot of just because stuff like with the mecha godzilla power thing that dosnt make any sense or the mothra thing in gxk he added just because his dad liked the character or the heav ships being already made with everything they would need through both films this type of stuff that normally can be ignored but is relied on too much causing things to feel lazy and with the more focus on kong you feel it extra with goji. if instead gxk was just a kong film and we remove all the jia chosen one bring back mothra stuff remove goji outside the mentions of him fighting on the surface and let it be a kong film it would have let the godzilla stuff to be better represented in another film i also feel like the world at large suffered similarly as now with some of this tech that makes little sense like how they have the heav ships that just seem to do everything jia who has some majic power with new mothra that hurts the overall struggle and losses of others that may not be front and center but still impactful. like for mothra and her sacrifice for goji against ghidorah, now its void as it wasnt real mothra that goji goes way back with or does he even go way back with her also the statement of he as queen of the monsters and now that egg is meaningless as there is a bigger one so why do we need the little one. also gojis overall connection to her was damaged because now she is more connected to jia who is this savior chosen one so no need to ever use any military ever again if you have a little girl who has two kaiju one with a robot hand that just happened to have a cure for frost bite when needed. and all caused by these little things just because fixable by pulling back a little and not committing to more than you can do
I have no idea, Godzilla has always had varying tones.
Same here, GxK was fun at least but GvK is a complete nonsense lol
Absolutely. Garret Edward’s vision was leagues better than the current monsterverse.

(2:09) Based.

Uhhh This discussion will take a long time to finish and it will be a bad time......
Well he didnt ruined godzilla
But he pandorred to king kong way more then he should have
And he ruined mechagodzilla just for the sake of kingkong which feels more like a studio move then a narrative choice and that ruined Godzilla vs kong for me.
I haven't seen godzillaXkong but from what i have heard, king kong is the main focus and godzilla is sidelined.
And thr human characters are boring to watch in these movies, 2014 had great human characters 2019 had weaker ones but the rest are insufferable

Mechagodzilla was well done in my opinion, I mean he was wasted in one movie but it was well done. We also do have a new director for 2027, that was announced almost 6 months ago.
The only great human character in 2014 was Joe Brody and he died in the first third of the movie.
Adam wingard did not ruined Godzilla back in 2021. He probably did ruined Godzilla this year.
"We should have the KotM personality back"
....What personality?
I mean they're probably talking about the way he acts.
Wingard may not write Godzilla well, but when it comes to Kong, he is straight up cooking
Story wise it is, yeah..
Although I’ll give him that he improved in GxK when it comes to King Kong fight scenes
He did ruin the worldbuilding of the Monsterverse after KOTM’s great setup, but he did not ruin Godzilla as a whole.
Well he made my favorite MonsterVerse film so no
Gxk or Gvk?
I'd say Adam only reversed Godzilla back into his goofy showa style, not much plot and a lot of goofy monster fights at best. I'm not really a big fan of those type of films and always prefer the darker toned films that have a lot more plot to it like Minus One, 1954, Shin, and GvD.
Imo the newest MV film is not only the worst MV film but it is one of the worst godzilla films on my list, and places right beside 1998 Godzilla along with some showa films like Son of Godzilla.

Kinda he did
If Im being honest, he did a really good job with both the movies. But GxK didn't have the world building that the rest did, it just had the same setting same knowledge and a different villain. It didn't have the emotion in the battles either, the hype of the battles wasn't there either.

Adam Wingard’s take on Godzilla was actually great. I like Godzilla being a big angry monster, with a heart of gold.
I mean, I like the Godzilla minus one design much more than Legendary version, but I don't let my design preference ruin the movies for me.
There is no way I would agree that GMK is the only good millenium Godzilla movie. That is just nonsense.

GvK was just the right amount of goofiness. GxK went way too far

I feel like it was mike doughetry who kinda fucked up.

I disagree
I think he did not ruin Godzilla, but I think he kinda overdid it with the action and realism. I feel like what makes the Monsterverse so great is that we really get a sense of how massive and how large the Kaiju really are compared to humans, but with Wingard’s movie we don’t get a sense of that majesty and oomph
NO
In my opinion, Adam wingard is kinda doing the MV justice, Gareth Edwards and Michael Dougherty did godzilla's story, and it's kinda ended Godzilla is king of the monsters after 2019 but kong on the other hand needed more story than alone monki does punch, Adam gave kong emotion and understanding and someone he needs to take care of that being jia and in GXK he found his new home with his own kind, so if you think about it both Godzilla and Kongs story are already perfect as they are in my opinion
But maybe we could get more story for other characters such as
Shimo,Mothra,Rodan and Suko or add new or toho kaiju such as Angirus, Biollante , Orga and even Zilla to make new stories or add new stakes and challenges for the existing kaiju in the MV.
