That’s great that you can adjust the 45 angles but what about the blade to the base? Mine cuts about a 16th out of square in 6 inches is there an adjustment for that?
Thank you for the video! This helped. I gotta comment on 3 things. 1- I like your dad frame on the wall. 2- I like your cat and I love how he/she loves you back. Very sweet. 3- How often do you get that you look SO MUCH like Pablo Escobar? 😅 Ok 4th and last one, cool mustache.
Even if I square the blade to the sole, my circular saw won’t cut 90 degrees. I can’t find mistakes in my technique, even using a speed square as a guide. I noticed that the sole bends when it is set at less than max depth, so any downward pressure will cause the blade to cut at an angle. What accuracy is reasonable to expect from a circular saw?
Great Plains Craftsman i primarily use an electric chainsaw, cut as close as i can and then finish with chisel and low angle block plane. But on occasion, if its hidden joinery, ill circular saw right to the line. 😁🌲
If the blade and the notch on the shoe are not aligned, is there no way to adjust it? I've read through the manual but in nowhere it mentions it. I am using a Makita 7-1/4 saw.
Same on my DeWalt 570. About 2mm offset (nothing to do with kerf width)…annoying. You can use a piece of plastic ruler to make a new index with measure markings.
Just some more tips on squaring up a saw, the table must be parallel to the blade. If it is not when you tilt the saw to cut an angle even if it is square to the blade at a 90 if the table is not parallel to the blade everything will be all out of alignment when cutting with the saw on an angle. I know all saws tilt on angles with different mechanisms but I have found that most are all messed up if the table is not parallel to the blade.
Thats not what we need. How do fix it if the side of the base plate does not align with the cut line of the blade. So a left or right alignment is needed on my brand new 10 inch makita circular saw.
That may not be adjustable Bruce. If it is then make a cut in a board length wise and stop the saw mid cut. Leave the blade in the cut and loosen the adjustment on the saw and take a framing square and align the edge of the cut to the heel of the base of the saw
@@GreatPlainsCraftsman That is what is so dissappinting. There is no adjustment screw or way that i can find to make such an obvious adjustment. The result of this mis alignment is also a very sticky depth of cut adjustment as the guide that controls that must be skew as well. The only thing left to try now is to remove the baseplate and see if the mounting that joins the motor housing and the base plate can somehow be altered to correct the blade alignment. Very dissapointing to find this on a new makita saw.
My wife bought me a brand new makita saw and I’ve tried cutting twice with it and the last time I just needed to cut a 1x12 in half and the saw binds after only getting 3-4 in into the cut the blade depth was adjusted correctly but it’s like the saw doesn’t want to stay on line
I’m really disappointed in my DIYer skil circ saw. There is no tuning screw. Worse, the shoe buts up against the motor case, so unless I shave a bit off the case, it’s impossible to get it squared. I had hoped that the brand meant something, even for their consumer line.
If the plate is out of alignment with the angle indicator, set to zero, then set to square. Don't just give up on the angle indicator, or you can't use it for any angles!!

Thanks. I can and do adjust my circ. saw (a Ryobi) square to the base “up and down”. But what about left and right?
No need Dennis. Thanks for tuning in
Every need to.
See my comment above
Cool!! Yep, my base plate/square to blade was off by, you guessed it, 2° Awesome 👍👌
I have a Skilsaw worm drive but no adjusting screw
Another good one!
Make Things with Rob Thank you. Thanks for always tuning in.
Solid video.
Great tips Tim!! Really enjoy your videos brother! 😁🌲
Jimi Timbers thanks bud. Do you cut to the line or just chisel to it?

Gracias por esa información !
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. Thank you!
Great video thanks 👌👌👌 a hug here from Portugal 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
Hello!
Great advice! My timbers don't get bigger than 6"x6" but the same principles apply.

Great video my friend! I enjoy watching these builds. Hope to do one myself some day.
Dillons Woodworks Thank you Mike!

jim stew Good point Jim, that is true.
You won't be able to cut an accurate straight line with a fence/guide either
Ki ki at the end👍
Good tip !
august Thanks!
That's a nice moustache
Flip trick?
Your mustasch, sir, makes me believe everything you say.
Lol well I hope so!

Haven’t checked the blade to the plate bc it’s brand new but I guess I need to check it after seeing this video

I predict that saw will be saving you a lot of time. Catch you on the next one.
Aaron Fjordlander it's working well
Thanks Aaron
