Can’t believe the sbc was left off this list. The 265 was the first of the v8 design that powered more vehicles than any other. The 283 and 327 had affordable variants with over 1hp per ci when that was truly a rarity.

Buick 215" aluminum V8 actually first showed up around 1950, sometimes supercharged to 335 HP in concept cars, turbocharged in '62-'63 Olds Jetfire, and got as big as 5.2L/318" by 2006...

*My favorite is the 472 Cadillac. Torque like a diesel but with zero clatter, smell or higher priced fuel, not to mention lower emissions. It was whisper quiet but pulled like a Tesla does today, and was nearly as smooth.*

There are several notable engines of both Ford and Chevy that were left off of this
video. The 396 and 327 Chevy
and the Boss Fords, including the famous Cleveland blocks.
It’s a mystery to me that these
Very popular engines were left off of the list.

The 454 was a larger 396 (really a 402). They should have included the great 409, however.

We all know they underrated these monsters for insurance reasons. At one point, GM took the weight of the car and knocked off one digit to get a number. Dodge rated the Hemi at 4500 to 5000 RPM, but it redlined at 6. Got to love the lie about the 0-60 times and quarter mile times , too. In "stock form" you got 5.5 and a 13 second maybe less with the big bad HEMI. Everything I read, it was an estimate. In reality after a 10 minute tune up by adjusting the timing and re-jetting the carbs; you could shave of a couple of seconds with drag radials.

Rubbish. No engines were under rated for insurance reasons. They were OVER RATED by using the fake bare GROSS engine dyno numbers that were 20% more than with Muffler, air filter, and belts attached which was the NET horsepower.
426 was only 350 net, 440-6 only 325 net. After 1971 model year ALL cars have to be rated NET. A 2023 Doge 5.7 put out 375 net, 25 more than the 426 Hemi.

all these horsepower ratings are fake. Prior to 1972 all engines were over rated using the GROSS method which put a bare engine on a dyno with the muffler, belts, air filter, and accessories missing. When all these were put back on horsepower was reduced by 20%, which is the NET rating. After 1971 the GROSS system was banned and NET was used.
This dropped the horsepower of 426 Hemi from 425 to 350 and all other engines were reduced by 20% in the parts catalog. Any engine spec before 1972 is OVER RATED.
