  • AMAZING SINGAPORE HAWKER HERITAGE AT CHEAPER PRICES 🇸🇬- BOON LAY PLACE HAWKER CENTRE
I somehow felt that hawkers in the central regions are raising their prices to $5 for the standard fair.. so I’m happy to see many are still offering prices around the $3.50 mark over at this hawker. The older the hawkers.. the more reluctant they seem to be when raising prices.. they somehow belt that it isn’t fair for the customers to be paying $5 a bowl. Yet many these days are increasing price to follow the trend of the newer players.. sad.. what’s the difference with dining at McDonald’s now.. a meal at a hawker centre now costs $7-10

First time I'd seen self service curry with roti prata. In Penang where I used to live, it is called roti canai. Stalls are a plenty, some of the best, even compared to KL, Singapore and elsewhere. Roti canai costs MYR 1-3 a piece, served with a small dish of chicken or fish curry and dhal. If you want mutton curry, there is a small up charge.
Thank you, Piggypuggy, for this long video. I appreciate yr hard work and enjoy watching. You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs 👍

@@Piggypuggy that's right, it used to be 50 cents SGD back in the day and it was 1:1 to ringit. Not any longer. I think inflation hit harder in Singapore where prices increased faster than Malaysia.

There is a french word that kind of describes what you're looking for in People Watching - Le Flâneur. It loosely means someone that just observes/watches society.
I guess there can be a Singaporean word for people watching at hawker centres now - Le piggypuggy

Btw this is a very cool place where it is known as the last frontiers of singapore in the past. Cheers

I ate at 'Fishball Story' at Bugis and it was indeed one of the best mee pok tah I've eaten in many moons. I was thinking very hard about this, and unfortunately, we cannot depend only on hawker stalls to conserve the last of our food heritage cause the overheads in Singapore are just too high. Cannot be helped in the long run. If you want something good, then you have to be prepared to pay for it.

Watching this episode i hv mixed feelings, familiar yet sad. Lived right next block above the shopping centre from 1999 to 2021. Knew most hawkers featured in the video, yet also some newcomers ive never seen there before. That ahpek 1956 carrot cake no longer fries carrot cake after jul 2020. Too risky for him to do during covid. I miss him cos he knows every other morning except monday i go tabao from him. I stopped buying from the stall after he passed it on to his daughter n son in law, taste changed totally. I hope he is doing well retiring at home ❤

Many of them just disappeared without a trace.. I was saddened when some of my favourite hawkers that I see so regularly closed down their stalls.. I didn’t even get to say goodbye nor to know if they are doing well.. the most heart breaking would be to hear that they had some illness and could no longer continue.. these people spent their lives serving the community and yet they quietly bid us farewell with a signage that they are closed.. I already see some of the seniors in my past videos that are now replaced by a new face.. I also dare not ask what happened to uncle or if he’s doin ok
