None of the competition have beat out the steam deck yet though, none of them have been willing to invest in the rnd to do dual track pads like steam deck does.
Not only the trackpads though. There’s no way Windows has Linux beat in any factor, ranging from optimization (battery life) to customization (KDE is even leagues above MacOS in terms of being a clean OS let alone customization). Whoever still uses Windows also has no awareness on privacy. But that’s a topic for a different conversation.
Definitely! There are so many more options these days it can definitely be challenging to navigate. But that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to share some thoughts 🫡
The only good thing about handheld "gaming" is for fighting games but for fps the physical controls feel clunky. I think handhelds are more practical for smartphones.
Personally, I use mine for rpg, survival horror, and racing mostly. I don’t really do too much competitive stuff with them since I agree with you, the controls are much less-reliable for that sort of thing than M&K or a real elite controller or something.
at end of the day if you want something that just plays when you pick it up get steam deck. Windows has been anti gaming for a very long time pushing their APIs to game developers that only work on Windows why it took so long for games to come to Linux and remember to look into all The privacy and borderline spyware that comes with windows.. is it really worth it.. well for you to decide i guess
Absolutely agree with you, I think the steam deck with steam os is a much nicer experience in a lot of ways. But it’s definitely up to each individual to make the decision for themselves. Well spoken.
SteamOS is not Linux, you can easily find a distribution, install Proton, Steam, Epic, anything like Windows. Sure, you sometimes need to tweak things, find the best drivers, but once done you are good to go. Performance wise, Windows as a gaming console is nothing compared to Linux stability and simplicity.
Sorry but SteamOs is Linux Valve says it too on their website and second of all Proton is good but it doesn't work with everything there are still tons of apps that still need to be fixed to work on linux yes its great that it works with many games and apps but still Linux Will never beat the availability of games on Windows stability and resource consumption wise yes because Linux is more lightweight depending on the distro but windows has more positives that makes it a better option than Linux for gaming a good example there are a lot of multiplayer games that don't work on Linux because of the anticheats
Sure, SteamOS is based on Arch, but what I was saying is that SteamOS is not the only option in front of Windows, you can use Linux without having the Valve layer that you talked about in your video. Besides that, agree to disagree.
SteamOS is not a closed ecosystem, its more open than windows, safer than windows... Windows is terrible os by default and worse on a small handheld. Another great thing about the windows handhelds is the poor customer service... very poor aka asus.
Not really. iOS is entirely proprietary where Steam OS is, at its heart Linux. So it’s closer to Android than anything since Android is also based on a Linux kernel. Windows is also entirely proprietary.
Great quality on this, definitely deserves more views! Thank you!

Interesting, a lot to consider. Handheld gaming has really exploded in the past few years.

I'm a "Normy" always had consoles, got a legion go on a whime, haven't turned my xbox on since.
Sounds solid! It’s definitely a great device for gaming! Much more portable than an XBox too haha
I think this format is going to explode with th upcomming Qualcomm chips and the move of Windows away from X86 to ARM.

@@jackofmanytrades indeed. But yeah, it still really depends on the person's lifestyle. I only carry or buy gadgets, stuff I use most of the time.

I'd rather steam deck and steam OS, then have Windows on an sd card, i think it's better than steam OS on a Windows handheld.

Definitely agree with you there. Steam OS is built on Arch. So it’s definitely customizable. Lots of positives for sure.
So basically steam = IOS and windows = Android
