  • In advance of its official opening on June 23, the 73-story Wilshire Grand showed off the full potential of its LED-adorned crown yesterday evening.
The video, captured by architectural photographer Hunter Kerhart, shows numerous graphics floating up the tower's spine and around its rooftop sail. The logos of Korean Air and Intercontinental Hotels also make appearances.
Built at a cost of $1.2 billion, the Wilshire Grand officially claimed the title of the West Coast's tallest building last year with the completion of its architectural spire, which reaches 1,100 feet into the sky. The project, designed by Los Angeles-based AC Martin, includes 900 hotel rooms, over 350,000 square feet of office space and 45,000 square feet of shops and restaurants.

That's a lovely new tower! Reminds me of the skyscrapers I've seen in Chengdu, China where many of the skyscrapers have similar LED lighting setups.

Hmm. Looks like just another giant Awareness Ribbon to tell us what to think. I can see Library Tower (US Bank Tower) reflected in the building across the street from my flat. I used to think it was cute to see it light up red and white for Valentine's Day, green and white for St. Pat's, etc.
In the last few years it just makes my eyes roll. The building's crown (subtle name for it) went purple to worship the queen on her birthday last year. It was red, white and blue to celebrate the first Paris 'terrorist attack' as a visual reminder of terrorism. Whoops, had I forgotten about terrorism for five minutes? Not if Library Tower has its way- Look, L.A, It's terrorism!!
For the entire month of "Pinktober" 2015, the crown was bright salmon pink to promote and perpetuate the disease of cancer. Let's be honest, no one looks at a pink item and thinks about curing or preventing cancer. When we see pink, we think CANCER. So the tower was screaming, "Cancer, cancer, cancer!" for a month.

Why didn't you film at night? Why not up close? What's wrong with you?
