what the even heck?!?! I just bought a set of tombow fudenosuke pens (one hard, one soft set) just last night!!! I was both intrigued but creeped out when I saw this video this morning! It's like... you KNEW
I'm just shocked in the best way that there are this many people who have the same burning questions as I do about the diffs between the hard tip and soft tip tombow fudenosuke, and who are just as pumped to be hearing these answers. I can't believe you even mention the blue thing that comes in the packaging - I wonder about it every time and have kept them JUST IN CASE
I am very heavy-handed. I don’t know why, but I always clench the pen as if my life depended on it. It’s amazing I don’t have hand issues yet. 😆 That being said, I actually prefer the soft tip pen. The ease of use reminds me I don’t have to kill the pen or my hand to get pretty lines. 😊
Hold up- Are you a mind reader? I was just wishing that I knew the difference between these two before ordering the pens and woah here it is 😶✨ Thanks a lot Becaaaaa ❤️
I was hoping you will also talk about the gray twin tip pen :( but you didn’t. Can you tell more about that pen too? Or will you make a video specifically for that pen ??? Please answer
I bought the two-pack from Amazon in the US and my hard tip pen has the green square and the soft-tip has the blue. If you can read the writing on the pen, it will also say "Hard Tip" or "Soft Tip". Additionally, there's a code on the side as well, BH for Hard and BD for Soft. Hope that helps anyone who got the same pens I did :)
This is great! I have just signed up for you class and bought a package of two pens. They are both black and I couldn’t see the difference. Until now. Thank you!
Nice demo on variance! Today you can get a 3 pack. One hard and one soft plus that dual tip. Btw, I love the grey on the dual, it’s absolutely gorgeous. Thank you.
I just finished your free faux calligraphy class and I am signed up for the beginners class SMYD which starts Jan. 24, 2022! So excited! After the class yesterday I rushed out to buy some pens and oh boy... I should have watched this first!! I purchased the Micro :( and the Faber Castell SB :( and a set of Pigma FB, MB, & BB which the only one out of all of them I think will work for the beginning class is the Pigma FB. I should have just ordered the Tombow Fudenosuke set you show here. Having some patience and watching all of your recommendations would have really paid off AND saved me some money :) But oh well, maybe I can use those other pens for something later on down the road. :)
Hey Becca! Can you please try the Add Gel brush pens? It would be great if you could. You have a large number of fans from India ! And as always this video was very helpful, thanks!
I just attended a Calligraphy workshop at the local art center and they suggested the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen - Black Hard Tip. Blick offers them in various sets.
Hi Becca - Just yesterday I ordered both these pens! I love them both and have used them for your tutorials and practise, that they are now running dry.
I have both pens and honestly don't know which I prefer; they're both amazing! Can you please review the Tombow TWINTONE markers? I just bought some for the first time recently because I thought they might be something like gel pens (which I've been wanting for a while), but I don't know if they'll fray if I don't only use them on super smooth paper or not. I tried to find the answer to that, but I couldn't. I really wanted gel pens that I could use in my coloring books (and I don't know if any of them have super smooth paper or not [I'm just assuming they don't]) and was hoping these markers would substitute for them, but I don't want to try them in any of them without knowing they're not going to fray first. So, I'd really appreciate it if you could answer that question for me.
Thanks for the courses, especially this one. I have seen on each own you can see in a tiny box saying "hard tip" and "soft tip". I like the pens a lot but only for calligraphy. Thanks for this video 🙏🏽
hey Becca! Recently I was looking for brush pens alternatives like Crayola because high quality brush pens are not available near my area. I found some markers lying around my house that are not flexible but works great for hand lettering. They are the Maped Colourpeps Markers. You should definitely try them out!
This was the literal first calligraphy pen. I got it when I had no idea what the heck I was doing. Now I am running out of ink and I am sad. It is literally the best one like ever!!!
Thank you for your advice Becca, I will try the hard tip version as i think it will suit my style Do you have any writing tips for those of us who are left handed please.
For those whose screens didn’t show the colors of the barrels, one is a very dark greyish green, and the other is a very dark blue. To me, they both look black in this video. I found a picture online at Jetpens of them together that allowed me to see the difference -- it's slight but there.
Can you please also send about Gothic calligraphy I have so many expectations from you Becca and as usual we a love your videos and this video was super helpful ❤ 💗
This was awesome I have a question though I have noticed that the big tombow dual pens fray quickly Do u have a way to prevent it from fraying Plsssss answer
Your pens will fray eventually. Look at the paper you are using. (Yes, paper is a factor) You should be using a smooth paper like Rhodia (I use this), Strathmore tracing paper or any other smooth paper. *Becca has a video about supplies & paper* Don't use copy paper. It is not smooth due to the pulp used & process. The paper will fray your pens quickly, especially if you are heavy handed or left-handed like me.😀
I have tried using a smooth paper but where I live it’s quite expensive And I have used marker paper with them I wonder if it’s because of excess pressure Anyways thank you
I just bought my first set of Fudenosuke TomBow pens. I went to my local Art Supply store in Roch.NY looking for a sumi-e carttrige brush-pen, and I saw these Fudenosuke pens. I am pleased with them. Do you know how to refill them with your own ink? is there such a thing for this pens?
Very useful, thank you! I only had the one kind of Fudenosoke, wasn't sure which one it was when I did your 'Drills' course (and then all the rest) but what I DID notice was the difference between the Fudenosoke and the Pentel touch that I also have. The pentel was softer, more 'juicier' - the ink would shine wet for a few seconds once on the page. Now I understand why - the Fudenosoke I have is a hard tip, obviously the Pentel Touch is equivalent to a soft tip... or is it? There's another video idea for you :) Both are good - I have the full colour sets in both ranges and will use different pens according to the effects I want to achieve. Anyway, thank you for the video. As always, Becca, a pleasure! xx
Hi Becca- Thank you . I have a lot of ink in different colours and fountain pens. Would you reccomend that I start with the Tombow Fudenasake pens rather than those when I take your calligraphy course in July. I'm really looking forward to it. AND I'm a lefty!!!
I prefer the soft tip but all the colors come in hard tip. Is there another brand and style that will give me more color but a similar tip to the soft? I am new to this and don't know brands very well.
Hi I have a problem , I don’t have the markings on the paper that I will use for writing calligraphy, do u have videos on tips or what to do when u don’t have line markings , I’m gonna try to do certificates pls help
hi, I bought a 2-pack after watching your videos using these; I always have to look at the pen to see which one I am picking up--the soft one has a BS on it (looks like WS-BS 150), and the hard one has BH, next to the WS, and that's the way I know. I never remember which color barrel goes with which size.
I have ordered some Fudenosuke hard tips, I'm heavy-handed. I have gone through my pen stash and found a couple of UniPin brush pens. How will those perform? P.s I signed up for your free 2023 month challenge :)
I would love your input on a good medium size brush pen. I use Tombows or ZIG Fudebiyori for large, and the Fude and Pentel Touch Sign brushes for small, but often I find myself needing a brush pen between the two sizes. :)
Thank you very much Becca. Quick question, I have a Sheaffer No Nonsense Calligraphy set with F, M & B nibs. Do you recommend using it for a beginner and if yes, which nib?
Hey Becca! Love your teaching style! Question - how can you tell the hard tip vs. soft tip apart after you've taken them out of the wrapper?? Is there any difference on the barrel?
As a watercolor artist- when it comes to traditional art -who's used to using a paint brush I honestly HATE the Fudenosuke hard tip pen. It's way too small and stiff and I really prefer brushes with bristles rather than a solid sponge tip.
Is anybody familiar with a refillable alternative to the Tombow hard? I love the way it writes but would like to switch inks. The closest I've found is a Platinum Preppy "Sign" marker but it is like writing with a double Broad nib and I prefer something finer.
I started my journey with the fudenosuke hard tip brush pens.. Now I would love to try the soft tip as well. Please make a video about the grey twin tip pen also.. Love from India
I actually have a question after all these years lol. What pen/brush pen would you recommend for watercolor? Something I can write with, then go over it with watercolor paint and not have it bleed into the paint.
@Jarrod Vandenberg. I like the Sakura Pigma Micron Pens and the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pens. Both are waterproof when they dry, and I have plenty of size options depending on what I want: Brush tip, .005 to 1.0 mm tips. The Pigma pens also comecome come in different colors. I hope this helps!
I am not happy with these pens over time. I have both the soft and hard tip. I take notes and draw visuals durin the sermons at church. This past Sunday in a new church (because I just moved) and I dropped a soft tip pen. It now is ruined and will not mark. I spent a lot on these and they are too fragile for me. Give me an option.
You want to know about a brushpen that can take various hits? I think that, if youre going to a place were theres a lot of people, its better to use a disposable pen like the ones with ballpoint
what the even heck?!?! I just bought a set of tombow fudenosuke pens (one hard, one soft set) just last night!!! I was both intrigued but creeped out when I saw this video this morning! It's like... you KNEW

I just bought my first tombow fudenosuke pen and it's currently shipped! What a great timing of your video 💕

Thanks a lot Becaaaaa ❤️
Me too
You channel is super helpful, thank you!
Video idea: Tombow Fudenosuke vs Pentel brush pen!
You really are the best teacher. Straight to the point (pardon the pun)
I was hoping you will also talk about the gray twin tip pen :( but you didn’t. Can you tell more about that pen too? Or will you make a video specifically for that pen ??? Please answer
I hope the same too. ;(
Me as well
All of your explanations are short, concise and in practical language……major thank you!
Wow! What a coincidence I did this video on my channel as well!
I have soft tip fudensuke..it is the best pen..I enjoy every moment of writing with this pen♥️
I bought the two-pack from Amazon in the US and my hard tip pen has the green square and the soft-tip has the blue. If you can read the writing on the pen, it will also say "Hard Tip" or "Soft Tip". The hard tip and small tip is written in a small font on the pen. I really love ur style and ur page... thank u
Hi Neha, some don’t, I think the new version does.
@@helenmartin1092 Hi, I bought it recently only, it is written in small letters... 🤔🤔🤔
Hey Becca!
Can you please try the Add Gel brush pens?
It would be great if you could.
You have a large number of fans from India !
And as always this video was very helpful, thanks!
You are right ✅
So incredibly helpful and EXACTLY the review I was looking for! thank you!
Thanks for clearing this up!
I just bought the Tombow Fudenosuke soft and hard brush pen. Thank you for your recommendation.
I just attended a Calligraphy workshop at the local art center and they suggested the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen - Black Hard Tip. Blick offers them in various sets.
I was so wondering about this ! But when trying to learn my o I end up in love with the hard tip, it made it all more easy for me to do my o right.
I'm getting both, I found a pack that has both, thank you very much!
Hi Becca - Just yesterday I ordered both these pens! I love them both and have used them for your tutorials and practise, that they are now running dry.
You know there are colors in Tombow fudenosuke hard tip pens did you get them ??
If you look at the barrel of the pen, the line just above "Made in Japan" says either WS-BS(oft) or WS-BH(ard).
Thank you! I got the combo pack with both (including the black and gray one you hinted at). I think I'm going to try them both!

thanks Becca for trying this pen

You are BRILLIANT!! Thankyou.
Thank You So Much, Very useful & informative video.
Love that measurement/spacing tool! Thank you for these amazing tips as always!
I love both
Thank you for recommendation.
Thank you thank you thank you for making this video!
Thanks so much. I’ve hesitated in ordering these pens because I wasn’t sure what the difference meant. 🙏
Yay! I needed this. Thank you! 💕
Thank you so much!! For that clarity 👍It's really helpful 👍

Hi Becca can you make a video on what all a calligrapher can do and how much they earn.
By the way nice video.. 👌🙂😉
Even I like hard tip
Thank you for your advice Becca, I will try the hard tip version as i think it will suit my style

I have tried using a smooth paper but where I live it’s quite expensive

I wonder if it’s because of excess pressure
Anyways thank you
Becca can you make video about Indian stationary.
Hey Becca , can you try Add gel little artist brush pen ?
Awesome comparison, thank you!!
I found them on Amazon for $10. I suck with controlling brush pens for linework, so I think these will be great to learn off of
Súper útil tu vídeo. Gracias por compartir ♥️

I got my soft top pen today.. 😊

Yes they r very similar

Which pen do you use to give us examples blue or green? Which is the hard and which is the soft

Yep I mentioned that in the video! Blue barrel = hard tip, green barrel = soft tip
Are they available in different colours
does their tips fray easily?
Thank youuu I got these pens and I was about to say they scammed me but the thing is I didn’t know how to use them lol
