I recently learned, from r/weirdal, that there is a recurring cameo character based on, and voiced by, Weird Al Yankovic. Who apparently married Pinkie Pie. The post was just a signed piece of fanart that said "I stole your waifu!" -Weird Al Yankovic.
Yeah I fell off the show before the finale but apparently in the epilogue they paired off one of the main six ponies with Weird Al’s guest character, which seems totally unhinged to me.
Oh man, Cheese Sandwich was a riot. Go him. She and he made a fun duo as fellow eccentric party planners in both the cartoon and the comics, so I don’t particularly mind the eventual hookup. The less said about Patton Oswald’s character though, the better.
I mean, if Bae got Vesper and Bettel to do a barbie movie watchalong, it's only fair that she gets an MLP watchalong in return. I would love it so much! And now that the MLP fandom has calmed down, it would be the perfect time.
Tbf, Bettel was a Barbie fan BEFORE watching it with Bae. The timeline goes Watchalong 1 (doing it as a joke) -> Watchalong 2 (wait, this kinda slaps) -> Watchalong 3 (Baettel force their drunken grampa to watch Barbie with them)
@@Fanimati0n Wait, are we talking about the Barbie show or the movie? I don't know the movie, but I watched several eps of the show and it was actually pretty entertaining/funny.
@@keystrix3704iirc The movies are not connection to the show. I didn’t get into them, but I do remember both being actually funny. It is probably the same team that worked on both.
"I think they enjoy the ponies" To be honest, that... wasn't the _reason_ the show got popular, it was a side effect. The first season got so popular simply because it was... cute and wholesome. It had fun characters, wholesome messaging, and it was just... pleasant to watch. And being a 20+ male, coming to a realization that, for some reason, you are now enjoying a franchise that was _exclusively_ aimed at preschool and grade school _girls_ was trippy AF. A sort of... inverse gap-moe probably also played a part in the show's popularity. Then the male audience started getting into it more and more, and started created stories, fan art, music, all that jazz - and then rule 34 kicked in. And I will still defend the position that the original clopfics weren't written because their authors were furries, but because they enjoyed the characters' personalities. It wouldn't have mattered if those characters were just humans - in that sense, they were attracted to these characters _despite_ the fact that they were ponies, not _because_ of it. Then the show runners started fueling that audience with memes and inside jokes, and eventually the whole thing kind of... degenerated into the cringefest that a lot of people know it for. But it wasn't like that originally. There was a time when the MLP fandom simply... liked the cartoon for what it was.
Most episodes were written for an audience beyond the target demographic and the series evolved because it wasn't stuck being a show exclusively for little girls.
@@zg3342yeah and all white guys want to beat minorities and all Asian guys are after lolis and everyone British have horrible dental work. Any more generalizations on entire groups of people based on a few examples?
I watched MLP from seasons 1-7, didn't watch 8-9. As you mentioned, yes, it was a pretty wholesome show, and occasionally great music and fan creations. I did hate the image of the community due to some of the more degenerate fans. I don't really think it degenerated though, honestly the show improved a lot over the years, from having super simplistic plots to something more intricate and having some story arcs. The degen side has always been there since day 1, but I tried to ignore it. For my little cousin who watched it, all the memes and easter eggs just flew over her head and she enjoyed the show, which I think is amazing how the creators were able to satisfy both kids and adults, a true family cartoon.
Simpler days. Iirc, there was a 4chan thread made in like 2010 when the show was gonna premier for the first time and an anon predicted how much degenerate art would be made of the show. Evidently, that aged horribly.
Literally, this couple of fandoms almost run parallel from each other. Musicians, illustrators, content creators that even themselves into vtubers, the fact that mostly is cute characters appealing to a male audience, the fact that their music is also great, cute and even epic.
@@keystrix3704 Not just MLP, specifically MLP crossed with Two Best Friends Play aka The Zaibatsu (RIP) If you want lore, I am digging my way through their past content. They primarily did LPs, but they also had a podcast and other variety content. They broke up a few years ago, Woolie and Pat now do Castle Super Beast. And Matt does the What Happemed series of videos on his own channel. Liam pops up every now and then in Matt's stuff. If I could recommend a place to start, it would either be one of Matt's & Pat's survival horror playthroughs, Matt Pat and Woolie playing the Chinese Indie fighting game "DONG DONG NEVER DIE" or the playthrough by Pat, Woolie, and Liam of NBA 2k16 Livin Da Dream (that game goes to some weird places). Or a David Cage LP of theirs, if you want to experience suffering
@CrocvsGator You're talking to a 2 Best Friends vet, my dude~ I was a fan of theirs since their second season for Machinema released. They and Dragon Ball Z Abriged were the main reason I ever joined RUclips. 2snacks doing animations for them and eventually MLP crossed content was just icing on the cake. So yeah, the breakup was very hard on me. Fun fact: You might find my old comments somewhere up top in several of the Best Friend's Beyond: Two Souls videos. They were pretty popular as I was spilling detailed information on how little their/your actions actually never mattered in that game, giving specifics on events and choices seen and not seen in their videos. The point was to show that no matter how many times you fail, the game will BS its way into making absolutely SURE the protag escapes harm, even in absolutely comical ways. You can put your controller down almost the whole game and you'll win. The ONLY time you can get an early Game Over - which Mr. Cage hated at the time - is in the end in the Ghost Hallway and I detail that in their last video. That game was terrible, and I had lots of fun making comments in breaking down those details. I hope those posts are still up.
@Key Strix Oh man, awesome! My first lp was Ride To Hell and Murdered Soul Suspect, for some reason. But the first video I saw of theirs of was the Machinima for PSASBR and DmC, which I think was the first negative coverage I saw of that reboot. God that was such a weird time when a bunch of people were hyping up Donte and Fedora Vergil.
10:03 Mumei fits Twilight Sparkle really well because when they speak openly, their views of reality tend to be unsettlingly unfiltered. They have to make an effort to memorize cultural taboos because they tend to see most of them as unimportant in the grand scheme of things. That said, their close friends can see past these seemingly amoral indicators and know they fear loneliness and work hard to maintain friendships when they remember to.
Mumei as Twilight with less chill and education? It does work better for her than the alternatives. None of them are 1-to-1 match-ups but... Kronii as Rarity: definitely close in personality with, in my opinion, the biggest difference that Rarity has far more confidence. They seem to have vastly different interests, though. Fauna as Fluttershy: close in values, interests and general temperament but Fauna is definitely more assertive and dominant. Bae as Pinkie: both are looking to have a good time and make their friends smile, I suppose, as well as the general energy level and excitement. As they said Bae does not match up well with any individual pony but seems share elements (ha) with Pinkie and Rainbow. IRyS: if I had to choose then I would say Cadance. Her general demeanor and slightly sheltered life experience seem to work along with the focus on singing and ability to play along. I do not think there is any pony which works with her YabaIRyS side (unless you look at fan theories/works, then maybe Celestia instead). As for the last of the Mane 6 if I were limiting myself to EN then Ame as Applejack without a farm (reliable, hard-working and very supportive but tries to do it all herself) and Gura as Rainbow without sports (dedicated to what she does and amazing/entertaining others while remaining at their level, also not particularly good at academics or "book smart"). I have always wanted to ask one of them to match EN with Sailor Moon, tbh. There are 10 Scouts (including Chibi) and 10 current EN members but if including Sana, as we all should, and bringing it to 11 then of course we have to make someone Tuxedo Mask. :D
@@quaeravoluptatem Twilight is a lot more coherent. Pinkie definitely captures Mumei's tangled mindset more. Also, Pinkie is way more unhinged and creepy. Irys would probably be Starlight Glimmer. Starlight is also on the cusp of being a part of the Mane 6, but her weird boundary breaking quirks sets her apart slightly. Also, much like how Irys is more focused on singing, Starlight is more ambitious with magic than even Twilight.
I will say, mlp specifically G4 "Friendship is magic", was very well animated and written. And because it was a 'family show' instead of 'a little girls show', the humour was a lot more relatable. There were even cameos from ponified reference characters that adults would only get: the big labowski, doctor who, trump, Indiana Jones, etc. It also came at a time when anxiety and depression were spreading. So a wholesome show was something a lot of people latched onto. Also it was very memeable. Which aided it's initial popularity. Of course like with any fandom, R34 is inevitable. 🤢
I'll add that the original G1 show is very much fine, it's as much an 80s show as FiM is a very 2000s-2010s show. The original MLP was also made with the intent of being a family show (original creator Bonnie Zacherle wanted it that way, and all of the show's writers did as well, some having worked on He-Man, Batman TAS and Gargoyles), but as it is with every generation of MLP, Hasbro markets it as a girls-only thing, regardless of what the writers may have intended.
@@ASR-Ansori I think we should frame it the other way around: the writers keep turning it into a family show despite Hasbro funding it as an ad for a girls-only toy line. As much as I love FiM, it's clear Lauren Faust's initial vision was in tension with the manufacturers' (no idea about 80's MPL), which clearly bled into the show (e.g. alicorn Twi.) and is why it took Hasbro so long to release non-toy figures. I'm still pissed I didn't manage to buy figure of Trixie's rocket, it's so pretty. At least I got one from Kotobukiya's bishoujo line.
Same here. :p I remember I used to be really into knowing English voice actors, least of all if I hear the same voice in another work and I'm like "Oh hey, it's that person!" LOL, yeah. ^^; He did Haseo in .Hack//G.U., that's the only thing that comes to mind right now. :p
I can explain in four sentenses. It was a show written to be fun for the whole family. Men didn't expect it to be as good as it is and were all surprised. Thus, bronies were born. Some people took it too seriously, but all big fandoms do at some point. Done~
I think I MIGHT have been the first one to tell Fauna that she sounds like Fluttershy... maybe? It was like around a month or two after her debut. It was like the second SC I ever sent her. I remember her being like, "really? I do?" Even dropped a "yay" and "everypony" to test. The chat went crazy. But I might be remembering wrong though. Too bad no one clipped it, as far as I've seen.
I will be honest, haven't seen My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic but if Fauna, Mumei and Bea do a watchalong, I would watch it, and not just the Highlights
@@arturoayala1004 I’d be down… if they can survive the original. Not a good first impression when Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games bring it all together a lot better. Legend of Everfree ain’t half-bad either. Man, good times. I didn’t expect this sub-series to be half as good as it ended up being in the end.
Watching just bea playing in the background it's crazy how cracked at the game she is with the sensitivity turned so low. Also I find it funny how basically everyone in Council aligns almost perfectly with one character or other but Myth is pretty much incompatible in everyway. That and it still haunts me how much Fauna sounds like Fluttershy.
We all got pulled in by the stories and interesting lore of the world of My Little Pony. Princess Celestia and Luna’s sister relationship alone gets massive attention, with literal animations and mysic videos about the event 1000 years before the show started. Plus 2 movies set in the Mane pony universe and a 40 minute Christmas special. And there's actually 9 seasons, not 6. Plus 4 movies and several specials set in a human world that somewhat reflects the pony world. It's a very deep iceberg.
A chaos demon who can change reality with the only goal in life being to mess up other peoples lives who eventually became an ally but went from messing up everyone’s lives to only messing up the protagonist’s lives is what got me to like MLP
I watched a good portion of the MLP: FiM series with my younger sisters because they were so obsessed with it and it was a good way to keep them entertained while I did other things. To this day, I unironicly listen to _Discord_ semi regularly. The music in that show was far better than it had any right to be...
Was around for the start of G4 and was part of the first wave from 4chan when it comes to MLP. Went to a lot of the cons over the years and met most of the friends I still hold close now through the fandom. Literally grew up with the show in a lot of ways. A lot of people in the fandom were weird, but it was mostly the minority like how most weebs are not representatives of the greater Otaku culture. Most of us are regula folk who just enjoyed the show, the fan content, and enjoyed interacting with other people who loved it. If it weren't for the many people I have met through the brony community, I probably wouldn't be here typing this after all. You mee crazies in any group of individuals after all. I owe a lot to my time as a fan of the show and as a member of the community. Im happy the girls want to give it a chance, and honestly, if there were to be a watchalong Id be down revisiting my past with y'all ❤ PS: Kronii - Rarity Fauna - Fluttershy Mumei - Pinkie Pie Bae - Rainbow Dash Sana - Applejack
Don't blame me for this they brought it up; anyways most similar: Fauna = Fluttershy Bae = Rainbow Dash or older Scootaloo Mumei = Owlicious Kronii = Twilight Irys = Starlight (reformed) Calli = Applejack Kiara = Rarity Ina = Coco Pommel Amelia = actually Spike with how she supports everyone and her wit Gura = hardest to figure out but closest to Smolder
I’d argue that Ame is closer to Applejack since she’s a down to earth and outspoken while always on the grind. Also, it didn’t take three whole seasons to get some actual respect from her peers. As for Mumei, I’d argue Discord. Someone creative and in her own world but also capable of great devastation with casual ease. Though what seals it for me are their jealousy streaks. Mason is to Mumei what Tree Hugger is to Discord. Except the formerly evil chaos god is the one who managed proper reconciliation in that situation. Also Owlicious is a living prop, Mumei deserves a bit better for casting.
Also the Council fits the characters' personalities: Fauna = Fluttershy (love of nature and kindness) Mumei = Twilight Sparkle (cute bookworm with no filter) Kronii or IRyS= Rarity (elegant and refined with gap Moe) Bae = Rainbow Dash (brash but awesome) Sana = Pinkie Pie (fun-loving life of the party)
At least no one is exposing Bae to Homestuck. I say this as an OG Homestuck fan, back when it was just "Andrew Hussie's new comic to replace Problem Sleuth".
Alright, SO, for you zoomers out there judging us, let me explain: MLP:FiM was a flagship show for Hasbro's then-new debuting channel "Hub" that attracted unusual attention from 4chan's /co/ board due to articles slamming it as the return of "soulless merchandizing" in kids TV before it even premiered. Now, /co/ received this news enthusiastically because "soulless merchandizing Saturday morning cartoons" is /co/'s nostalgic bread and butter. They were hoping if this show did well we would see a reboot of the likes of Transformers, GI Joe and Thundercats (Monkey's Paw on that latter one)- mostly Transformers. But something happened when /co/ dug a little deeper and read the credits of the project, and it immediately became clear that Hasbro had assembled a true A-Team in the western animation industry, especially showrunner Lauren Faust who was universally loved on /co/ as the lead creative force behind PowerPuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends- both undisputed classics. This changed /co/'s plans from passive interest into full-on obsession. And when the show finally premiered, it not only met /co/'s now-high expectations, it exceeded them, with some truly creative use of vector animation and an amazing aesthetic design. Memes spread like an absolute wildfire. /co/ could not contain them. This caused a nuclear memetic chain reaction as the rest of 4chan could not understand why /co/ was obsessed with a little girls' cartoon to such a degree. This created a rabbit hole effect all of you here should be familiar with, and the rest is history. To this day, 4chan still keeps a containment board, /mlp/, in the aftermath of the sheer chaos it wreaked upon the imageboard. No series, western or anime, has ever had such a seismic impact on the forum before or since. Now, naturally, when 4chan gets involved, degeneracy comes in tidal waves, but I assure you that the interest was not rooted in that. That developed in response to the unexpected, self-sustaining popularity explosion.
No, seriously he actually is in that many things. Games, anime, cartoons, and just about anything that has voice acting there's always a chance you'll hear Yuri Lowenthal
From what I understand voiceover work doesn’t pay that well and most well-known English VA’s have a day job. If someone is really trying to make voice acting the main way they support themselves, it’d make sense that they have an IMDb a mile long.
It's crazy that Fauna (a member of Hololive) can blankly describe the MLP Fandom as Cursed. As if completely oblivious to the fact that two non-Hololive fans can just as easily have this conversation over "Digital waifus".
A. Fauna seemed to be less concerned about the depths of depravity of the brony subculture and more worried about how chat would react to the subject of bronies being raised (as well as being put on the spot about how to introduce someone unfamiliar to it). B. Hololive fandom can be pretty cursed, but it hasn't quite drilled down to the cataclysmic depths the brony fandom became infamous for. A lot of that is due to the fact that, rather than a single show that became a phenomenon, Hololive has dozens of talents that are differentiated by tone, attitude, activities, etc. The Hololive fandom is more spread out, so they can't go quite as deep.
I think that's a subset of bronies, not necessarily what a brony is. I think that's a clopper? I might be off on the exact term, but brony is just adult male (and female since pegasister was abandoned) fans.
My 2 best friends since high school got caught up in the MLP craze. I thought I was going insane because I just couldn’t comprehend how that happened to people haha
MLP:FIM was targeted at kids, but threw in the occasional bit of "adult" humor or pop culture references to keep the kids' parents entertained. The original bronies were people in the same demographic as the parents who happened not to have kids of their own. Like most fandoms (including anime) the word gained negative connotations because of its association with the worst of the worst of its members.
The venn diagram of MLP & Vtuber Fans is damn near a circle. Cute girls doing cute things is fun watch, whether its anime girls, or cartoon ponies. Sure, some people turn both into a fetish, but thats human nature.
Yeah. Except that one is family friendly and the other can range between seiso and yabai. Not that it’s makes a huge difference from my eyes, since those words are perfectly much the same for me.
Okayyy this just broad me down memory lane. fauna is mostly correct but a brony doesnt have to be an adult male most of them were but just means male MiP fan. the female variant was named a Pegasister. yea.... dont ask why I know this information.
I think a modern audience would be utterly amazed at what they were capable of putting into a family show in the 2010's. _FiM_ had good writing, characters, songs, pretty good animation, humour, and tons of references. It was originally intended to run for only one season, but then it completely exploded. A strength of the writing is that people could see a bit of themselves in a lot of the characters, not just representation in one like these studios try to get today. The cast was _huge_ , could you imagine if they were _trying_ for representation? In a show about magical, talking, candy-coloured, undersized horses? A lot of the later episodes went darker and edgier than you'd expect for kids shows, well, not even just the later ones. There's one called 'Lesson Zero' in season 2 where Twilight goes completely insane. They all do at one point or another. But the season 5 premiere is all about a town that's been brainwashed into mediocrity. The antagonist isn't some super-powerful megalomaniacal stereotype, so it's not like the heroes can just beat her up and call it a day, they have to _find evidence_ and convinced the citizens that what the antagonist is doing is wrong. Force was never actually the end solution to any of the stories, it went deeper. And any time magical strength came up, it was to lead to something more. And I mean that in reference to Twilight's and Tirek's epic magic battle. There's definitely a lot worth watching, or rewatching. I'd say _FiM_ is superior to a lot of series coming out now. It's basically an anime. The Japanese dub had a more typical anime opening, and they only did the first two seasons. They basically made it into an anime. For kids.
Yeah, and it was awesome... i wish there were theses sort of things like that (kinda like anime but for the kids that could be like a combination of slice of life/shoujo and shounen, without any swearwords or even too much violencia but the sort of things that made mlp specil.)
I helped make the my little pony series. I was a lead story designer. Let me explain the Curse. The curse was the Head producer made it CLEAR to all people watching the show. I quote. " My little Pony is not about the ponies. It is about the merchandise. If you do not buy our merchandise this show will be taken off the air." end quote. Ever since that Both Little Girls and Grown Men support the show an created a fandom. To further expand. No its not because they are infatuated with ponies. They want to BE the ponies. They represent the Zodiac an are very Familiar with people. Rarity is Leo,Fluttershy is Virgo, Rainbowdash is Aries, Pinkie Pie is Gemini, So forth an so on. This connection to the ponies really drives people to be more interested in the show. They feel that connection an don't want the fun to end.
i agree with what some of the comments already stated. people enjoyed MLP because it was simply a good show. the characters were great and really enjoyable. and becaus eit was so great it attracted a lot of creative people, there was tons of fan art, music and fan fiction created the first couple of years. i stll have my downloads of two charity albums the fanbase produced with absolutely banger music. some of the track makers who i spotted in other fandoms at points, including the vtuber one. also Fallout Equestria is a novel with over 2000 pages, apparently. just as two examples of the immense creativity. but as with all fandoms, there has always been a "dark" side and thats usually totally fine. but obviously people who hate this stuff are dragging that out and use it as ammo. the exact same happens with vtubing and hololives "idol culture" all the time. the other thing with fandoms is also that people eventually move on to other things, so a lot of people who liked the show for its own sake in the beginning moved on and instead there were more and more people joining "ironically" or for the fandom or memes. also something that can be partially seen in the vtuber fandom, though vtubers have the advantage of there not being many months of breaks between seasons that causes mass exodus. best way to watch it would probably be some kind of curated (play)list because not all episodes are great, but some are _really_ good. similar to star trek, for example.
If they do a react to this, I hope they do "Friendship is Witchcraft." It's not only a legitimately good parody series, but it's one of my favorite things from the fandom. Isn't Gura a super fan of MLP?
The show is actually prety good. For me the whole fandom experience felt something similar to the start of punk culture, being told by society that you're a deviant just because you enjoy something that you're not meant to enjoy, and then just embracing it and making it your own. Most people were just having fun but after some time when the thing started going off the rails the more sane people kinda just left. Personally my involvement with the comunity was mostly watching friday night movie streams and the saturday morning new episode streams with some people from the community, as well as doing some fan art here and there, and I kinda stopped caring about the comunity after season 3 I think. I still watched the whole show, and would watch it again.
I fell into MLP when it was going on, drawn by the plot and the voice actors. It was a good time in my life, even with all the cringe that came out of the community. I would totally watch these three watch an episode or two :D
The show had great moments, can be enjoyed by everyone, and it was a success due to the vision the show developer Lauren Faust had and let behind with the rest of the team. The comics expand on the lore. And then there's Equestria Girls. About the only gripe I can give is that many races were introduced late in the show, and not much of their culture is really explored. Some only appear in the comics or other media. 11:12 The fandom has calmed down, so i say it is the perfect time to watch the show and specials in its entirety. The fifth generation, Make your Mark, is being underwhelming, given that the parting point is generations after the Mane Six left their legacy, which ended being forgetten among the majority of ponies. And not much has been connected to one another. Only the comics have gone that path, with an appearance by Discord. So give it a chance and let the Magic of Friendship guide you.
@@seantaggart7382, the new season? I need to start it. I will need an hour to get through the Bridlestock special. I was surprised that new episodes were released with it.
If Fauna's influence is confined to earth that means there's a potentially infinite number of Faunas throughout the universe, each in charge of their own alien biome. As the first person to realize this I think it only fair that I call dibs.
As a guy who admits to being a Brony, I'll just say... I got into the show because it was a children's show that I could enjoy watching when my nieces wanted to watch something. I stayed in the show because the characters, plots, and humor hit me right, and the music was good. The odder side of the community never actually played a roll in my interest.
people judge 99% of the community by the 1%, in any fandom, especially if there are serious haters of it. the haters will present the 1% as if its the 99% to justify their hatred of that fandom. the stronger the hate, the greater the misreading of it.
He may do anime, but to us true Zoomers, he will always be Ben Dude. Also, if FaunMei arguing like a married couple over continuity isn't enough to convince you that they're True Ending, we fight.
The two biggest things i remember about m My Little Pony was it ran longer than Transformers Prime and theres an episode where they have a land dispute with buffalo. A quick synopsis is a town moved is built over the buffalos stampeding grounds and basically starts a whole cowboys vs indians conflict.
While I'm not sure if this was ever confirmed, I think it was theorized that the ultimate origin point of the brony phenomenon was an article that was basically bemoaning the fact that the then-upcoming Friendship is Magic show would be helmed by Lauren Faust, a big name in the animation world, because it was a toy-based series and it seemed like she was selling out. People in the western animation fandom saw the article and were either primed to mock the show or were now somewhat interested because Faust was in charge. They watched the first episode and it turned out to be a wholesome and enjoyable watch, more along the lines of a family show instead of a little girl show. Definitely a case of the right thing at the right time, and a large fandom resulted... with people landing at wildly varying depths within that fandom, with some just watching something simple and fun, others wanting to buy up all the merchandise, and others drilling into the yabe bedrock, not necessarily because they were furries, but because they just really, really liked the show and characters. All of this probably would've happened more or less the same way if the show happened to star human characters. So, not that different from the Hololive fandom. But the internet was a bit smaller place back then and there was an unusually high number of bronies who were unusually unashamed. I never was a brony, so I can only give a largely outsiders perspective, but I do remember watching at least one episode after the craze was in full swing and concluding that it wasn't something I was going to fall for, but I could kind of see where people were coming from.
Krony is probably more like Twilight. Same bad luck. Id say Calliope is probably Luna. Ina’nis is probably Scoodaloo, Oozora Subaru RainbowDash. Polka Omaru has to be Pinkie Pie. I don't know. Rarity is a Leo. Who feels like a Leo in the group?
Funny how they keep referencing my little pony, yet no one had ever talked about Polly Pocket or even Lalaloopsy at this point. (Please talk about Lalaloopsy, it's a good slice of life show that doesn't need to rely on any lore and it's very heart-warming too! Give it a chance!)
Fauna was about to go "Well the first two seasons were actually pretty good, since it was directed by PPG creator, Lauren Faust, only later it started to get overly self aware with too many cues to the fandom and pandering all over the place, that said the movie was pretty great. But I'm not a fan, or anything"
It's 9 seasons... and the movies are chronological (though the latest one can be viewed as standalone), but you could finish it in a month or two if you dedicated a lot of time and effort. Most people can ease thru it in almost a year at a casual pace. I've personally seen it all and identified with the original brony sentiments, most of what adults enjoyed about the show initially was that it was relatable, entertaining, and provided friendship lessons which were true to life and uncommon in children's media, which for a generation filled with people on the autistic spectrum serves as a way to learn to socialize thru media. It captured a sense of innocence and adventure interspersed with relatively realistic scenarios, a lot of worldbuilding, and the music is pretty catchy. The community itself was and to some extent continues to be a pretty wholesome and supportive place, though it faces the same schisms and tisms as any other fandom. All the negative drama, fetishization, etc., is just extra tacked on stuff that isn't really representative of the core reason people enjoyed and latched onto the show. The characters were in depth, the storylines were mostly interesting, and the show had a way of making us care about it all. It helped that the well fleshed out characters and world made amazing fanfic fodder.
I was never a full Brony but I do think Fauna got most of the personalities right i coukd see Bae replacing apples with Veggamite and trying to make 100 different dishes with it

I mean, if Bae got Vesper and Bettel to do a barbie movie watchalong, it's only fair that she gets an MLP watchalong in return. I would love it so much!
And now that the MLP fandom has calmed down, it would be the perfect time.
Vesper after watching MLP with his niece: Oh sh1t, here we go again.
I get a strong impression that Vesper and Magni would be great to have in an MLP watchalong.
"I think they enjoy the ponies"
To be honest, that... wasn't the _reason_ the show got popular, it was a side effect.
Me thinks thou doth protest too much, my friend.
This must of been quite an experience for bae

@@keystrix3704 Not just MLP, specifically MLP crossed with Two Best Friends Play aka The Zaibatsu (RIP)
If you want lore, I am digging my way through their past content.
Correction to my last post: your actions NEVER mattered in that game.
Mumei is just evolved Owlowiscious.
Lesson Zero was a trip and a half.
“Do any of us really do anything?”
Fauna having a moment of clarity lol
Yeah just rule34 popping out of nowhere and get some information 😐😎a
@@ASR-Ansori I think we should frame it the other way around: the writers keep turning it into a family show despite Hasbro funding it as an ad for a girls-only toy line.

Watching just bea playing in the background it's crazy how cracked at the game she is with the sensitivity turned so low.

*THE JAR*
She knows
Don't blame me for this they brought it up; anyways most similar:
Fauna = Fluttershy
Bae = Rainbow Dash or older Scootaloo
Mumei = Owlicious
Kronii = Twilight
Irys = Starlight (reformed)
Calli = Applejack
Kiara = Rarity
Ina = Coco Pommel
Amelia = actually Spike with how she supports everyone and her wit
Gura = hardest to figure out but closest to Smolder
Also the Council fits the characters' personalities:
Fauna = Fluttershy (love of nature and kindness)
Mumei = Twilight Sparkle (cute bookworm with no filter)
Kronii or IRyS= Rarity (elegant and refined with gap Moe)
Bae = Rainbow Dash (brash but awesome)
Sana = Pinkie Pie (fun-loving life of the party)

At least no one is exposing Bae to Homestuck.
I say this as an OG Homestuck fan, back when it was just "Andrew Hussie's new comic to replace Problem Sleuth".
Alright, SO, for you zoomers out there judging us, let me explain:
MLP:FiM was a flagship show for Hasbro's then-new debuting channel "Hub" that attracted unusual attention from 4chan's /co/ board due to articles slamming it as the return of "soulless merchandizing" in kids TV before it even premiered.
I was half expecting The Jar to be brought up as a descriptor for one end of the spectrum of the fandom
Its 9 seasons. I recommend watching Season 1 episode 26 to get a clear understanding of each of their Goals in life. It was during the Gala.

Well, my little pony can be a family show. Vtubers meanwhile, can range from family friendly to yabai all in a minute or two.

"I think they enjoy the ponies" is a terrifyingly accurate way of describing bronies
I think that's a subset of bronies, not necessarily what a brony is. I think that's a clopper? I might be off on the exact term, but brony is just adult male (and female since pegasister was abandoned) fans.
That scroll through Yuri's credits just set me off. Dude is prolific.
My 2 best friends since high school got caught up in the MLP craze. I thought I was going insane because I just couldn’t comprehend how that happened to people haha
I enjoyed MLP because it was something mellow to watch when I was stoned in college.
My ancient culture, MLP was definitely an experience, it had its ups and a lot of downs, but it was fun though
4:39 It just...keeps going.
2:56 Mumei when Gutenberg succeeded in not getting burned at the stake and books became popular: FINALLY
I haven't watched the show in years but i would watch every moment of a watchalong
Okayyy this just broad me down memory lane. fauna is mostly correct but a brony doesnt have to be an adult male most of them were but just means male MiP fan. the female variant was named a Pegasister. yea.... dont ask why I know this information.
I think Pegasister fell off eventually and fans just collectively referred to themselves as bronies
They should invite Goob and Clock to the watchalong~
The MLP fandom was my Vietnam.
WAOS that's so cool!
Wish i could buy thw whole series on blu-ray
When owl popping out and come out of nowhere she's change topic for a good choice a
i agree with what some of the comments already stated. people enjoyed MLP because it was simply a good show. the characters were great and really enjoyable.
and becaus eit was so great it attracted a lot of creative people, there was tons of fan art, music and fan fiction created the first couple of years.
i stll have my downloads of two charity albums the fanbase produced with absolutely banger music. some of the track makers who i spotted in other fandoms at points, including the vtuber one. also Fallout Equestria is a novel with over 2000 pages, apparently. just as two examples of the immense creativity.
but as with all fandoms, there has always been a "dark" side and thats usually totally fine. but obviously people who hate this stuff are dragging that out and use it as ammo. the exact same happens with vtubing and hololives "idol culture" all the time.
the other thing with fandoms is also that people eventually move on to other things, so a lot of people who liked the show for its own sake in the beginning moved on and instead there were more and more people joining "ironically" or for the fandom or memes. also something that can be partially seen in the vtuber fandom, though vtubers have the advantage of there not being many months of breaks between seasons that causes mass exodus.
best way to watch it would probably be some kind of curated (play)list because not all episodes are great, but some are _really_ good. similar to star trek, for example.

The fandom has calmed down, so i say it is the perfect time to watch the show and specials in its entirety.
However make your mark chapter 4 CLEARLY DID ITS HOMEWORK!
@@seantaggart7382, the new season? I need to start it. I will need an hour to get through the Bridlestock special. I was surprised that new episodes were released with it.
@@JoseRivera-ym3wj Oh trust me THE FANS HAVE GONE WILD OVER IT!

Just a fun fact. Sawashiro Miyuki voiced Twilight Sparkle in the Japanese dub. Dont thank me for this cursed knowledge.
Mumei: nature is evil
Fauna: no civilization is evil
meanwhile Bae: CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION
We say thank you for the top quality edition 😊
The two biggest things i remember about m
My Little Pony was it ran longer than Transformers Prime and theres an episode where they have a land dispute with buffalo.
Sweet, so next april fools would be the entire Councilrys 3d pony model stream on Equestria then.
I would absolutely love a watchalong with Bae and Council. Whatever you may think about the fandom, the show itself was great.
There's always weird people, it does nothing to detract from the quality of mlp g4
I never thought I'm watching an argument and talk about MLP again... oh nyo...
"And some, I assume, are good people."
I was never a full Brony but I do think Fauna got most of the personalities right i coukd see Bae replacing apples with Veggamite and trying to make 100 different dishes with it
Bae doing a FIM watch along would be hype ngl
9:55 - based Mumei… though frankly she’s clearly much more of a Discord. That Mason arc in Minecraft was a clear case of him being the Tree Hugger to Bae’s Fluttershy.
