Basically the problem boils down to a simple truth. WOTC/HASBRO is trying to run MTG as a Collectible Investment for a secondary market... and NOT as a Card Game. The issue with that, of course is that without the players playing the game. The Cards stop being bought... EXCEPT for the really old sets. New sets become a HUGE loss as they can not be sold. The game is too expensive to bring in new players. Hasbro creating a bunch of new tournaments for pay to win whales is not going to save Standard and even Commander has become just too expensive for. I have seen too many new players show up at LGS, pick up a precon commander deck and then find out after playing it that to make it work better requires lands that cost 3x cost of the entire deck. (and thats not pain/fetch/og duals) unless you are playing a mono color deck the cost of lands has gotten out of hand and so has many other cards because of investors buying up entire stocks of cards and WOTC refusing to do reprints that are not locked behind some massive paywall of a specialty set that costs $20 a pack.
The Reserve List [RL] cards were sold in the 30th Anniversary set, which have a different back. Not saying its was right, but it wasnt a true reprint of the RL. Plus the 30th Anniversary set was a flop anyhow due to being overpriced.
You guys are basing this on the whale reaction. Normal magic players want every single card reprinted because we want to be able to use them and not pay a hundred plus dollars for one card
I’ve never met a player that cares about the reserve list is preserved. I have met players that hate the reserve list exists. The only place I saw that flipped out is mtgfinance and those leeches are only bad for the game.
@nathanrhoades6504 The classic "people who want to make money off of something are evil" stance. I don't support the reserved list and I wouldn't mind them reprinting the cards from it but to just say that a bunch of people are leeches because they utilize the system WOTC put in place is pretty scummy. If all you care about is game pieces go proxy them for like a dollar.
@@j_g_t6091 they are middlemen that serve no purpose or value. They inject themselves into the market and abuse players jacking up prices to no benefit on the player or wotc. MTGfinance are scum and the game doesn’t in any way need them to leech off players.
Regarding the reprints, people were upset because the reprints were just proxies and were not tournament legal. They charged around $1000.00 for a box of these proxies. This was a huge slap in the face of most MtG players who can't afford that and can't afford the originals (because they are so expensive). If people want to play with non-tournament legal proxies of expensive reserve list cards, they can already just make them themselves for literally pennies. Basically Hasbro blew what should have been an opportunity to make a fun anniversary product for something that was only purchased by a couple of deranged whales.
WotC/Hasbro are running the game into the ground. I've been playing since 95 and since 2018 it's been one issue after another. Too much product. Too much power. Too much for commander. Too much being done for profits over a healthy game.
It's a terrible Disney game! Then again this is the same game that's also based on the very similar premise of Disney villains the card game which has no actual real interplay against each other and it's basically a glorified game of solitaire where you spend time with other people! Sorry I watch a card game reviewer
Who are these people? None of them are knowledgable on this subject.... The more they talk, the more they reveal they have no idea what they are talking about. Why bother talking about it. Troll and Toad is not a distributor... They are an og seller, they're big but not that big. You may have shopped from them once or twice in the past but realistically they are not your first or second- not even your third option if you wanted to buy cards. They might be in your top 5 but that's being charitable. Their name is bigger than their actual operations. It's a legacy brand. The entire secondary market on Ebay will implode if they close? I highly doubt this. It's definitely going to effect the market but why just Ebay and how entirely? Why make such a short sighted statement... WotC has done reprints of the reserved list in the past. This is not the first time. They work around their wording on the subject. The product didn't tank because WotC went back on their word on reprinting reserved list cards. The product tanked because there's no market for thousand dollar booster packs that aren't real cards. It's a pattern of tone deaf products, marketing, and or decision making from WotC that has eroded the trust of stores and players over the years. Lorcana may have the same effect Pokemon has in the TCG industry. There are a lot of people who are interested in the game that aren't interested in TCGs. The vast majority of people ripping Pokemon packs has never played the game. The same can happen for Lorcana. It might not be as effective as Pokemon but the appeal is there. The first run of Lorcana was pretty limited. Many stores didn't even get any alocation. The restock is about to happen but we have no idea what size it really is. We don't know what will happen. I do not get how you can make such confident statements on this subject when you do not have the basic facts straight.

Next thing you know, the USPTO will publish a ruling that "Dungeons and Dragons" is just too generic to hold any trademark.
Nah not in regards to ttrpg.

Yeah, this was my thought. "$10,000 for a card? What the fuck?"
This should be a card game, not stocks or securities that you trade and gamble on.

History rhythms.
Familiar tones to TSR after 2nd Edition & removal of Gygax.
Gygax equivalent, if any is critical role. And they still have a relationship.

Wasn’t it also randomized proxies? As in you got 60 cards that could be duplicated from the first magic set?
@@U1TR4F0RCE Yes, that's correct. The proxies were in booster packs just like regular cards.
Still waiting on a Troll and Toad mass sale....

Second flaw you're still going to be able to buy magic the gathering singles on TCG, card Kingdom, and StarCityGames that will never change
Good. Wotc has been on their bs for long enough.
Sunday fun day. 🎉
