I hope that vise does not come flying out from that particle board top, it has definitely seen better days.
Yeah the cabinets in my garage were like that when I bought the house but they get the job done. The vise is very secure, its not going anywhere.
The way you installed the vise, are you able to (for example) vertically snug a pole / broom handle, whatever, straight up and down in the vise and clear your bench?
Using the main grips rather than the pipe grips yes but you would need to do in on one side or the other not the center since you need to clear the vice itself.
