  • At 7:43 pm on Saturday, 2/3/2024 the Norwich Fire Department with East Great Plain Ladder 5 and Laurel Hill Engine 62 were dispatched to the area of 35 Cliff Street for a house fire. While responding, Dispatch was taking multiple calls and transmitted the working fire which added Taftville Engine 21, East Great Plain Rescue 5, Mohegan Tribal FAST and an American Ambulance.
Battalion 1 and Squad A arrived at 7:46 with heavy fire showing from the Charlie side third floor of a. 2.5” story wood frame. The Squad crew stretched a 1.75” hose line to the rear and began darkening down a large volume of fire. Engine 3 got the water supply, forced a door in the front and then stretched a line.
Engine 2 forced a door on the Delta/Charlie corner and stretched a crosslay to the attic. Truck 1 forced a door, did the primary search of the second floor and performed horizontal ventilation of the third floor. Ladder 5 met Engine 2 in the attic and assisted with opening up.
Battalion 1 had command, Squad A-X was operations and Car 10 had safety. Engines 21 and 62 helped with overhaul while Rescue 5 filled air cylinders. Yantic Engine 33 covered Headquarters while Occum Engine 41 covered Greeneville. The Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
