Jon, I've been using Excel for decades, but I never realized you could double-click on the Format Painter to repeat use. What an awesome revelation. That example was my favorite. Keep up the great videos!
I was going to post the same thing! 30 year Excel user here and it's always pee'd me off that you had to click the Format Painter each time, or so I thought! On the one hand, I love videos like this as I learnt something new. On the other, they make me feel stupid for (A) not realising that there was a better way, and (B) not finding it out myself!
I've used Excel for many decades, have taught Excel to my colleagues. I'm a keyboard shortcut user and consider moving my hand to the mouse as hitting a speed bump. I consider Ctrl+Shift+U the geekiest keyboard shortcut I know. Thank you for sharing it with your audience. One of my favourite Excel tips is to untick Edit directly in cell.
I have been using Excel since the early 90s - right after Symphony and Lotus. Over the years it has been my pleasure to learn and apply most commands in my work. Today, I came across your video and realised there's a lot more I have to discover. Thank you for the tips on shortcuts when using multiple sheets.
I bought your Pivot Table training about 10-years ago. Since then I’ve been recommending your tip emails and your classes to anyone I encounter using Excel. I wish everyone would take a deep dive into Excel if they are going to use it in their work or life. Too many people are still using it like a notepad. Thanks for these tips. I learned a bunch of stuff. I’m retired now, but still use Excel to make order out of chaos!
I've been using (and self learning) Excel since version 4.0, long time ago, making complex worksheets and workbooks, even shainrg in a central storage and linking multiple external shhets. For this video, more or less a 40% of tips were unknown for me. Thanks
OMG i learned more in 8 minutes than the last 6 weeks i've spent in an Excel CLASS. Thank you. Favorite short cut here? Probably the Status bar trick for adding the sum etc. to a cell and/or adding options to the bar area.
Just when I thought I knew EVERYTHING about Excel…your Excel video shows up in my mailbox. As always, Jon, thanks for another fabulous set of tips so well put together. There’s nobody like you! Please keep them coming!
Very useful! Thanks, Jon. My tip - I like to put the QAT below the ribbon: the icons are clearer and coloured down there and you can fit many more of them.
I'm so reliant on my QAT (below the ribbon as you note which is so helpful), that when I have to help another on Excel, I find that I'm swimming through peanut butter to get to the needful things. We develop so much muscle memory in using our Excel tools.
Though I've used Excel for many years, first at work and now at home, I've learnt several useful tips here. My favourite is double-clicking the Format Painter to lock it, rather than having to keep clicking on it to reformat several other cells on different parts of the worksheet. It certainly saves time! 😃👍
I knew several of these short cuts which are super helpful; the F2 button for entering/editing a cell was new to me and will have to try that one. The other one was the fill handle, I have known about putting cursor in the bottom right corner and dragging but double clicking to auto fill/update the cells is very helpful. I will be forwarding this to staff in the office so they can learn new tricks as well, if they don't already know. I believe half the staff I have forwarded emails from you to them and they may already be on your email list. I really like the tips and tricks - although some of the more advanced tips are over my head - but at least the accounting staff can find them useful. Thank you Jon for all the great information.
'Name Box Range Selection' - I have a worksheet that I was scrolling several thousands of rows using page down on a regular basis. This takes me right to my target point. I knew Excel had a work around and you just showed me. Thanks.
As always, great job John. I especially liked being able to add the sheet number to the status bar. 👍 Also, starting at 2:18, I like how we can select cells like that.
Imagine what you think after using Excel for 20 years and seeing many of what you shared today for the first time: 1. The Lock Drawing Mode 2. Zoom Fit Selection Thank you!
I’ve used Excel in some capacity for decades. Although I didn’t count, I feel safe in saying I only knew two or three of these. A few others I thought I knew; I learned some nuances they have.
Great video Jon, even for the more advanced user. I've learned some new tricks. That F2 edit / enter mode works a treat in the conditional formatting menu when you want to write a formula for the conditions. All the best!
Wow, great tips! I only am very bad in remembering, so I will have to review these tips again and again. But I loved the lock mode and the zooming selection
So many new tips. I like the right-click on sheet arrows to get the sheet list. I use an add-in to create an index page and usually use that, but this is quick. As always, great job!
My favorite RUclips hack: For all of the Excel tips and tricks that you know you won't remember, create a saved list call Jon's Excel Hacks and save the video for your future reference. Favorite? Like picking a favorite child. (1) Lock the drawing tool. (Though I don't draw much). (2) Double clicking on the Toolbar to collapse and restore. My all time favorite tip from you is your running totals in tables. It is a feature I use a lot, and your method is both simple and effective. My personal tip for those who work with tables extensively: lot, adding the table totals icon to the QAT. Also the column filter toggle shortcut is something I use frequently. It is a godsend for eliminating any filters from a table quickly from large tables.
Thanks so much for sharing and for your support! I love the Jon's Excel Hacks idea!! We'll think about how we can create something around that idea in the future. For anyone wondering about the running totals in Tables, here's a link to that video. Running Totals In Excel Tables - The Efficient Way ruclips.net/video/PGlBfr5SeEA/видео.html Thanks again! 🙌
CNTRL D to content above, including formats and formulas. ALT A T to apply filter. AlT W F F to apply freeze pane. CNTRL C to copy, then Right Click V yo paste value only. Very fast.
Fantastic tips Jon, I love tip one as I have several sheets with multiple workbooks and the quick look up will save me scrolling back and forth, thank you so much as all of these great tips will be so useful.
I really enjoyed it. Please do something on linking cells and sheets like if I have a list of names, when ever I click on a name it takes me to his page or file.
Thanks! One way to achieve that is with a table of contents sheet. This is just a sheet with a list of sheet names and links to each sheet. We can use a macro to create the sheet. Here are a few videos that explain the setup. ruclips.net/video/pLTph31wyZY/видео.htmlsi=K1Mf5-TSLveAEPbJ ruclips.net/user/shortsD4eZZr9RqCg?si=VAr_TC6Eu_d4kGad There are other ways to do this, including linking to files instead of sheets. I'll add that to our list for future videos. Thanks!
Thank you.. You are one channel that I follow, and have helped me when I really did need some tips.. I rely not only on the RUclips channel, but also a fan of your bog post
I use most of these but one I have been using lately is the status bar calculations, especially when the values I want to sum are not contiguous. Just Ctrl and select those you want evaluate, no need to write a formula to get a quick result.
Although I still don't like to use the mouse too much, a lot of the double click tips are worth incorporating. On a side note: I'm mousing left, so I'm used to translating 'right click' to 'left click' and vice versa. But better words would be "selection button" (my right) and "context button" (my left).
I have used Excel from before Noah went into the ark and I am very much a keyboard jocky, mouses are for navigation, keyboards are for work. However I did learn 3 new things today. thanks
"Mouses are for navigation, keyboards are for work". Haha, love it! I'm sure there were mice on the ark, but never knew there were keyboards too. 😜 Happy to hear you learned some new things. Thanks!
You don't know how much help you give with your Excel tutorial videos, they really are a great help at work, I hope you know how grateful I am to you.
I think everyone does, but recently my Excel started having problems, so I think I need to look for an Office key to see if it works properly again.
Oh well, my office key is from BNH Software and it's been a while and it still works without any problem.
Thank you for the kind message, Keith. I'm happy to hear the videos are helpful. That means a lot to me. I appreciate your support. 🙌
Jon, I've been using Excel for decades, but I never realized you could double-click on the Format Painter to repeat use. What an awesome revelation. That example was my favorite. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks, Tom! 😀
You can also use ctrl-y which repeats your last step. That is very handy to repeat stuff that has no shortcut.
A 25+ year Excel user learned more than 30% of those features today. 🙂 Thanks!
You're welcome! 😀
That's sad

Hands down, this is the Excel tips video with the most and greatest tips in the short period of time. Nicely done!
Thanks for the feedback, Sam! 😀
@@ExcelCampus Thanks to you for producing such informative quality.
And well, clearly explained, making sense and easy to learn!
Lock the drawing tool, and the selection : great tips!!
Agreed; that was the one that had me saying, "I wish I'd known that before!"
For me, Locking drawing mode and selecting objects mode are new for me and are super useful to know. Thanks.
All tips are good and very useful. I like the tips at 00:20 and 00:35 (workbooks containing multiple sheets, moving between these sheets etc.).
I bought your Pivot Table training about 10-years ago. Since then I’ve been recommending your tip emails and your classes to anyone I encounter using Excel. My favorite was double clicking to hide the ribbon. I didn’t know that one and it will help tremendously.
I've been using (and self learning) Excel since version 4.0, long time ago, making complex worksheets and workbooks, even shainrg in a central storage and linking multiple external shhets.

Outstanding tips. Love the right-click on sheet arrows to obtain a list of sheet names for easy navigation.
Me too!
Also Ctrl click on the arrows to scroll to the first or last sheet>
The select shapes tip was excellent- also the format painter double click - I knew this before but had forgotton it
Just like a previous comment, I have used Excel for years but not seen most of these shortcuts. Thank you
You are welcome! 😀

I never knew about Edit mode vs Enter mode in formulas, thank you!!!
Thank you, you have just made my life a lot easier.
I loved the double clicking on the format painter! Thanks Jon!
I’ve been an excel user for many years. I only knew about a couple of these tips. This video has been really informative and helpful, thanks very much.
Glad it was helpful! 😀
I am new to Excel and I love your tips and short cuts it makes it easier to learn.
Great...!!! Even I am a lover of learning and teaching shortcuts and tricks...😊
I do like your explanation of excel. Very clear.
How do you copy the foremating of sheet without the content of the sheet?
1. Copy the range (Ctrl+C)
and then to apply only the formatting
2. Paste Special > Formatting > OK (Alt, E, S, T, Enter)
Thank you. I love Excel. Learn quite a few new ones today.
I also love teaching and learning excel tricks
Format painter lock mode was something I did not know! That will save some time for sure👏
F2… I’ve been using it forever to edit cells, but never knew it was a toggle switch. That’s very helpful. 👍🏻
Great to hear that! 😀
I’ve used Excel in some capacity for decades. Although I didn’t count, I feel safe in saying I only knew two or three of these. A few others I thought I knew; I learned some nuances they have.

It's always great to keep the brain refreshed and constantly learning little features/shortcuts 👍, thanks for the video!
Thanks for your feedback! 😀
For me also the lock the drawing tool was outstanding. I discovered it also works in word! Great tip
Cool! I don't think I've ever tried it in Word. Also works in PowerPoint. Thanks for sharing! 🙌
Thank you, I found the video interesting and extremely useful. The zoom to fit selection was my favorite feature.
Been using Excel since the 90s. I knew less than half of these. Well Done! Thanks.
You're welcome! 😀
Thank you very much! The select objects tip is my favorite- did not know that one!
I didn’t know you could lock the Format Painter. I will use that a lot. Great tips!

Thanks again! 🙌
The tips about the status bar are cool seem really interesting but the best tip might be clicking to collapse the ribbon! 🎉
I didn’t know about “Fit to selection” to automatically zoom in on the cells you have highlighted - handy!
Thanks Jon, love the Lock Drawing Mode
Use of F2 Excellent!
You hv done very hard work and lot research on excel. Thanks for sharing

Happy to hear this. Thanks Peter! 🙌
Reminded me of a tip of automatically creating a menu

Thank you.. You are one channel that I follow, and have helped me when I really did need some tips.. I rely not only on the RUclips channel, but also a fan of your bog post
Wow! Appreciate that 😀
Hard to pick. I just plain love shortcuts. Collapsing the ribbon and using the Quick Access toolbar (for any 365 products) is the way I work.
Just learning excel. I subscribed to your channel.❤
I liked the one with the status option and copy the results shown there and also locked for shapes
Thank you for the handy tips
I learned a lot of great tips from this video. Thank you so much. 👍
You're welcome! 😀
My favorite was either the select range option, or the double click to keep the formatting painter on
For the tip at the minutes 7:24 can be done with ctrl + f1
Alt+Cntrl+F5 to Refresh All
F2 to toggle Edit/Enter
Thank you ❤
Good job with this video, really enjoyed it. The thing i loved the most was working with the grid while he is hiding
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Defs "Lock drawing mode" !! Changed my life. ;-)
My favorites are Zoom to Select and Hide ribbon.
Tips related to shapes are my favourite
double click the format tool... great!!! very useful.
Great to know how to use Enter Mode and Edit Mode to update formula.
Likes the format locking.
Didnot know of it.
Great video. Really useful tips in day to day working. Thanks John.
Thanks, Rajeev! 😀
Great post, some very interesting tips 👍🏻
Thank you Jon. I lked the zooming into a certain range.
I use most of these but one I have been using lately is the status bar calculations, especially when the values I want to sum are not contiguous. Just Ctrl and select those you want evaluate, no need to write a formula to get a quick result.
Great tip with the Ctrl+select! Thanks Willie! 🙌
70 yrs old and just learning.
Top tip... Don't have too many sheets per workbook!
So many nice tips hard to choose which one is the most useful
Great Video, Many thanks,
your content is so freaking helpful
Most of these were new to me. Love the tips. Thank you
You're welcome! 😀
Wow ... I learnt so much from this one video. Look forward to watching some of your other videos
Can you make a video on a faster way to compare the 1st data set to 2nd data set and extract the difference added after the 1st data was pulled.
Although I still don't like to use the mouse too much, a lot of the double click tips are worth incorporating. I have used Excel from before Noah went into the ark and I am very much a keyboard jocky, mouses are for navigation, keyboards are for work. However I did learn 3 new things today. thanks
Hah...I still miss Lotus 123. I had spreadsheet PTSD when Microsoft won the software wars. (Amipro, I miss you too)
"Mouses are for navigation, keyboards are for work". Haha, love it! I'm sure there were mice on the ark, but never knew there were keyboards too. 😜
Happy to hear you learned some new things. Thanks!
The copy sheet shortcut is amazing
Great tips. The steps moved fast but very helpful.
Glad it was helpful! 😀
These are great tips!!🎉
My favorite _ format painter locking, toggle between edit mode and enter mode by pressing f2
The Format Painter was a surprise. Previously I was using conditional formatting with formula =MOD(ROW(),2)=0 to make alternate colored rows
Thanks for the info
