So many suggestions. Here's one more... perhaps use the bathroom there as a guest bathroom. Decorate it in a beachy theme with all your signage and decor. That way people have to walk through the laundry room to use it and it might make you keep the area clear
I agree. Easy fix is the laundry room bathroom is now the GUEST bathroom. Also, you need to keep doing the "don't put it down, put it away" messaging you are already pretty good at, but regarding your garbage and recyclables, and town's giving page stuff. Eg. if you have the mailer in your hand and you are done with it, say out loud "don't put it down, put it away" and walk it straight to the garage in the recycling bin. A few extra walking steps sure, but it will stop the hot spot by your back door before it even starts! Also, "a place for everything and everything in its place" is your mantra. Put things back into their designated HOMES in your home right away and the chaos will stop. You are sooooo close to being healed from Hoarding Disorder (I believe you can be FULLY recovered from this). Keep going! We believe in you! 💜
Love the idea! By the way, I also have a dream of a beach place and purchased a few decor items for it, but until I get the place, I display them in my home in summer.
i think the furniture situation is not working. if you install more shelves and completely utilize the vertical space up to the ceiling, put in decent sized baskets with labels, you can organize and keep it tidy more easily. eg have a big bracelet basket
Yes! I recently put some Billy IKEA bookcases in my kids room. Having the taller bookcases versus shorter shelves has made a huge difference in making it more clean and organized.
This is a thoughtful response, but I fear if she has a bigger space she may just keep more stuff. For me, it would increase the narrow feeling of the space. For some people, it would totalk6 be part of the solution
Surfaces also tend to attract clutter. I gently suggest moving those shorter shelves down to the basement into your craft corner and allowing that space in the laundry room to remain empty. Empty space is the new luxury! ❤
I don't know about moving them, but I would rethink how to use the top of the shelves. It seems like this space is a drop zone, the tops of the selves would be a great place to put some bins for items that are in transition or don't have a home yet. That way, on Follow Through Friday, action items will be sorted into bins, making it easy to complete the tasks.
Some may disagree but I toss sneakers in the washing machine. You can do a few pairs separately if you're fussy. They come out perfectly. Much easier than trying to wash by hand IMO.
You should decorate that bathroom with all the beach theme items you have. Make that room an inspirational room and it might help motivate to keep it clear!
Great job! Grab a nail and hammer and hang that lovely picture in your laundry room. You can always move it later if you find a different spot, but you can enjoy it now 😊
I was thinking this too, but seeing the sun damage on the basket, I wonder if the sun would be pouring on the painting- not sure the direction of the wall and windows. She does need to hang that though! I agree!!
I really loved the clips of your follow throughs as soon as you were making the decision and talking about it! Also, I had to rewind and double take when I saw that Brandon is in 11th grade 😮 I’ve been watching your channel since at least early 2019 and I didn’t realize how much time has flown by!
Just a thought… what if you turned these white shelves into your upstairs craft area, then move the tall shelf to basement/garage and then shift your recycling piles over to the small wall section where your current crafts are? How your recycling is now is still kinda in a path/walk way and maybe moving it out of sight a bit would also help with getting you comfy with an open clear space in this area? It could also be a good challenge to take your laundry door off for a month or so while you develop the habit of keeping the area tidy because it would make it so you can’t “hide” it when guests are over…
I think you have more room in your basement to make a dedicated craft area. You have already consolidated all of your beading things, so you could put a white shelf in the basement near where the colourful drawers are, or on one side of the fireplace, and put the white shelf there, and that’s the genesis of your crafting area. That would free up space in the laundry room for only laundry-related items (and small items you need when you’re running out the door like reusable bags, and your shoes). Maybe it’s not really big enough in there for the dual purposes… in the basement, you could have room to sit at a desk or table to bead bracelets (and gift wrap and make decorations and to go through your sentimental items, too).
Great progress!❤ The bird seeds can be poured into cereal containers. It will be easier than carrying one full bag, and it will look neater on the shelf.
Well done on going through that whole shelving unit. It looks brilliant and Miss Pepper certainly likes the space. Hope Tyler is doing well. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍🙏💐🐈🦄
I like the idea of moving all of your craft stuff together. Upstairs with the downstairs, and probably downstairs. That way, you have your craft station in one place, ideally with a work space that is ready to go and your supplies on hand as well. Having one less function in the laundry room would open up more shelving for your transient item space (ready to go gifting objects, Facebook marketplace, etc.).
Your self-awareness is admirable. You cleared & organized quite a lot in this session. I can tell it’s getting easier & easier for you to decluttered. It won’t take long to clear out the little bathroom. Then you can put your “beach “ decor in there.🐠🏄🏻♀️⛵️🏖️
It seems like the crafting supplies are taking over such a large section of the laundry room. Don't you already have a huge section in the basement set aside for crafting? Seems like you may really benefit from better vertical storage where you can hold all the crafting items you realistically will use upstairs, because you don't ever craft in the basement. Which is fine, but if you prefer being upstairs to craft, makes sense to narrow down the craft hoard to fit in closed storage in the laundry room.
Maybe a cubie shelf for stuff that leaves the house where you just cleaned would work? Beach theme laundry room with beach stuff would be pretty. The new totes you found to put your categories in would work too Looks so much better!
If it makes you feel any better, soooo many people have a "laundry room" situation that winds up being the clutter room, not just hoarders. I grew up in a split level and there was a guest room/ office type extra room downstairs that we (for some reason) called "The Small Room". It was where everything that did not have a place went. My sister and I would beg my mom to clear it out so we could have a "clubhouse" and, surprise, she didn't cause she was a busy mom who worked full time and the Small Room was really low on the list of priorities 😂. I always have trouble with areas like that that are the in between spaces - if something needs to go to the garage or outside, it makes sense to drop it by the door; if there is recycling that will need to go out, it goes outside the door, and on and on. And then it just builds up. One thing that came to mind while watching this is that polymailers and cardboard boxes pile up quickly for you. If you want an idea: dedicate an open bin to polymailers or throw them DIRECTLY into the garbage and literally throw the cardboard boxes into the garage immediately. If you need them to ship something, you know there is usually a pile in the garage (and always more incoming, let's be honest) and if you don't need to ship anything, you'll see them and toss them when you go into the garage to put the trash out for the week and toss them for good. Either way, it'll keep them out of the house, and clutter is always like a magnet for other clutter lol. Also, for context, I am the worst at holding onto boxes and polymailers because I ship stuff out occasionally, so I know, the struggle is real!
Just an observation-a lot of your stuff is the tossy tossy pile of wrappers, empty envelopes, packaging, etc. Try getting yourself a bin in areas where you open things. Then put the wrappers straight in the bin without placing it on a shelf or in a corner. I am sure if. you get into this habit you will find half of your problem is solved, immediately.
The painting would be beautiful in your dining room or living room. Maybe let go of a piece of art that isn’t sentimental and replace it with this one. Love your videos! ❤
It is great that you recognized why you still dump stuff in the laundry room! I think we all have a space "out of sight, out of mind". Thanks for always being an inspiration and motivator, watching your progress has been a weekly joy.
i love videos where you talk through your decluttering as you do it! yay! and i love hearing you think through what isn’t working and how to make it better. you have so much to be proud of!
you are awesome for showing your hidden clutter and thanks for showing me what you can achieve in a small declutter area it is so great looking afterwards xolori
Well done on clearing out more space in your laundry room Ms Heart. Also, I want to say that I love your honesty in admitting you are still bring in far too much stuff and that you are still just dumping it down and not putting it into the right places within your home straight away. The thing this suggests to me is that you may still have a slightly imbalanced or unhealthy relationship with ‘stuff’ in your mind. This is because if you respected your current possessions, plus the things that you are still buying or bringing in to your home, and respected your space properly; then I think you would consciously make more of an effort not to continue these bad habits. Plus, as someone who has watched every episode of your channel, I feel you have made enormous progress, which has seen so many healthy benefits for you and your family, and yet you still continue to fall down in certain areas, as follows: Firstly, not sticking fully to your no spend challenges properly at times. Secondly, making excuses and still allowing your friends and family to give you far too many things, outside of birthdays and Christmas presents, that you don’t need or perhaps don’t really even want if you stopped to think about it. I think maybe this is because you have conditioned yourself to believe it is impolite to refuse to take things when they are offered to you, or maybe it is because you subconsciously still crave stuff too much, even when you know you don’t need it or indeed already have similar items squirrelled away in your basement. Your excuse to yourself being “Well if I find later that I don’t need or want it, I can just give the stuff away on my FB towns giving page or make craft from it and then give it away”. However, most of the time the stuff just sits gathering dust or shut in a box, unused or unloved. My advice is to try to stop just accepting stuff, from anyone constantly, as it isn’t beneficial to your overall progress. My hope for you is that you stop making excuses to yourself and in turn your audience. I know you fully clear out your spaces continuously, but until you deal with the other issues you’ll always gather too much, always continue creating dumping piles without thought; and always accept too much stuff from others without holding yourself fully accountable and allowing yourself to simply say “It’s kind of you to offer me things, but politely I pass this time” or just “No thank you”. Anyway, my suggestion for the laundry room is to take the door off between the rest of the house and the laundry room, so you physically can’t hide the clutter in there without people seeing it. Next, make the small toilet room the guest washroom, because you are more likely to keep it clean if others from outside the home would be using it.
Whew, that was a lot of decisions! I think a 'hideaway zone' like this is one of the hardest to tackle (if not THE hardest) because there are always tricky things to decide and to do (like gluing the angel). So, well done getting through it! Imo, organizing is also a process of deciding what we want to keep right now ~ so the painting reminding you of your heritage & childhood is totally valid and probably not hoarding ~ but the healthy sign of a caring human! 💕 The laundry space looks so much better & clearer! Not easy to do with such cold weather! Wonderful job! And thank you for cheering us all on! ☕️🎉✨
Also, NEVER leave bird seed in an open container like that in your house or garage. It attracts mice BIG TIME and then you are going to have a much bigger problem on your hands~ especially with all the hoarded hidey homes you've created for them in that laundry room! Bird seed in a sealed container such as a hard shelled plastic or glass container only, my dear. 💜
Hi, 3 of us live in a 2BR apartment. I toss at least 20 items each day. I still have plenty of craft items because I get lots of items free. I filled a bag with linens and clothes for the Food Pantry. I hope you stopped buying craft supplies. Tina, Al's wife
Everyone one has areas that are drop zones or just used for ______. The problem is not revisiting and making it so easy to toss especially w this culture of consumption. Not to say people who craft or fill in your passion... this is valuing what you have and allowing the time and space to work for you. Keep going ms. Heart ❤ 🎉
i’ve followed you for years and this is definitely one of my favorites of your videos! a very real life declutter like putting little pieces back to the puzzle they belong to. i am so excited to see more of what you do with the space!🩷
The way you articulate and explain yourself is wonderful. Long time viewer and I’m always shocked by how amazing each and every video it is. Your vulnerability is appreciated!!!
That's so great you figured out what was making it so easy for that room to get hoarded! It's always nice to get some insight into our recurring behaviors 💜
I thought the reason why it was a catch-all is because it's a transitional space going from kitchen to backdoor to garage to basement to laundry to bathroom.
Your laundry room is my basement, lol. That is the one area that is out of control and needs to be addressed, hopefully once and for all. I'm tired of turning a blind eye to the mess. Thanks for the encouragement! ❤
Fantastic work!🥳👏👏👏👏👏 🦄 Could you put that painting up in your laundry room for now? It might help you to think of the laundry room as part of the house. Consider carefully, though, if the sun will hit it and fade it over time.
This so reminds me of my cupboard/pantry under the stairs..throw in..deal with later, mine has deep shelves my house has very little storage..so this space is where I store laundry basket, hoover, small aluminium step ladders, car washing bucket, big sheets for decorating... I can't currently get into it! It's been on my list to sort..then I got sick..but I need to sort..but it's finding a solution that it all goes in and not just chucked in.....
Rather than put crafts in the laundry make it a dedicated drop zone with labels on bins, hooks shelves. Leave those shelves empty to catch items that might currently end up in front of the door. Valentines day is coming up and I know you like to decorate. Put your empty decorating bins or small transitional bins in the laundry for an easy pack up at the end of the season. Use that area as a staging area. Have separate bins for items that regularly come into your home and then know that as things fill up it’s a visual reminder to do something about them.
I loved this video! You are amazing! I really believe that not making the tossy tossy piles will help you follow through. If you still want to show your tossies, you could maybe make separate bags, bins ou boxes, depending. That way, after filming it, you may get each one of them to their destination. And even if you don't do it immediately, you may always get back to it faster! Also, when you want to make progress but lacking motivation, maybe try the "no mess method", from Dana K White. It is gentle with your emotions and you will never have a big mess after... Great job, Miss Heart! Love from Portugal ❤
Well done. I was thinking it might be good to stack the two bookshelves that match and secure them to the wall. Make better use of your vertical space. And open up some of the floor. Also, love the painting. I wouldn’t wait to hang it up.
You already know this, and I know you're working on it all the time, but you just have WAY too much inventory for any one person to manage. I don't think everyone needs to become a minimalist, and I know you love beautiful things, but you have too much of essentially everything. And that clutter exasperates ADHD, too. So until you get your inventory down to something legitimately manageable for you, you're likely to keep shuffling and recluttering areas like this. About the painting, why not just hang it in a dry area of the basement for now? That way it'll get off the ground and you'll at least be able to appreciate it when you go down there to grab things or declutter 😊
You can clear that bathroom quickly by flattening those random Bags into one of those organizers you already have and getting the cardboard out. Getting the Cardboard boxes to recycling seem to be one of your Achilles heels. Mine is paper. I have papers in random places. I’m trying to confine them then shred once dealt with but it’s a challenge.
That was a huge baby for your baby step decluttering. Declutters often speak of having several containers: belongs somewhere else, recycle, needs regifting. So maybe a 3 bins for that laundry area. When they get full or overflow set up a take it there now to process the bin contents. Then sort of like today’s video only try not to let it get goat trail overwhelming.
I was going to suggest for you to repaint or decorate the laundry area to encourage and inspire you to keep it tidy... but then when i saw your beautiful beach decorations, I thought... Why dont you make it a beach theme in there? ❤ We're not promised a tomorrow enjoy your beautiful beach aesthetic today!❤❤❤🎉
I'm the opposite and get overwhelmed when things don't have a place. I have a small basket that I keep my junk journal supplies in that I can move around.
I hope you find a nice place for your lovely things, so that you can use your crafting materials and have a nice time, maybe your kids and husband like to create something too? What about an crafting room or corner?
I have a very similar layout with my laundry/utility room (it has dishwasher, fridge, freezer and small appliances as well as laundry machines) - it is between the house and garage and it is not properly insulated or heated. Mine also turns into a mess, and along with being able to hide it (ish - the door is half glass) I think the reasons are: it’s too cold (or hot in summer) out there so I don’t want to take time to put things away properly; it’s on the way to the garage and mine is currently impassable so I drop things there that should be in the garage; it’s on the way to the bins and it’s cold outside so I drop the bags/boxes of rubbish and recycling there for my husband to deal with when he does the bins; it’s not a “necessary” room for living, by which I mean we don’t hang out there (!), we just go there to do a job and leave as soon as we can, so we don’t sit there getting annoyed by the mess; my storage out there is not labelled so sometimes things just hang around waiting to be put in the correct location by me because no one else knows where they go; some of the cupboards are not really fit for purpose so it’s hard to put things away; there is procrasticlutter there (stained clothes - my nemesis) and storage organisers which I haven’t got a use for yet, and obviously clutter attracts clutter!
I need to send people I know to your house. I have no space they do not look in (house all one level). I'm actually thinking of changing the panty to a locked door one or the laundry room closet so I have some space that I can keep stuff secure and hidden.
I've been with you since you held your phone in front of your face then wore the mask & sun glasses You've come a long way and doing great keep it up and you'll get were you want to be i have faith in you and i know you can do it even tho it maybe hard at time's you have your family to help you and you have us here for you too no matter what it is you need to talk about or share with us we'll have your back
I don’t know if this will help, but have you considered that you aren’t hiding your hoard from everyone by putting it only in the laundry room and basement? Your family is still experiencing the hoarding. Your kids are still seeing it. Maybe you have forgotten them because they have all come to accept the hoarding over the years, but they are people, too, and they’re more affected by it than any temporary guest in your home.
So many suggestions. Here's one more... perhaps use the bathroom there as a guest bathroom. Decorate it in a beachy theme with all your signage and decor. That way people have to walk through the laundry room to use it and it might make you keep the area clear

You can’t organise clutter. More storage would mean storing more ‘stuff’

That cook book is amazing. My husband and I have the newer version but if anyone is starting out I highly recommend that cook book.
I filled a bag with linens and
clothes for the Food Pantry. I hope you stopped buying craft supplies. Tina, Al's wife
This is fantastic progress! ❤
Great job…. Its a lot of work sorting so many items at once so bravo for carrying on and completing the area. Yes you do inspire me to carry on also ❤
Everyone one has areas that are drop zones or just used for ______. The problem is not revisiting and making it so easy to toss especially w this culture of consumption. Not to say people who craft or fill in your passion... this is valuing what you have and allowing the time and space to work for you. Keep going ms. Heart ❤ 🎉
Looking so good! You are really moving forward even though it is so hard!
i’ve followed you for years and this is definitely one of my favorites of your videos! a very real life declutter like putting little pieces back to the puzzle they belong to. i am so excited to see more of what you do with the space!🩷
The way you articulate and explain yourself is wonderful. Long time viewer and I’m always shocked by how amazing each and every video it is. Your vulnerability is appreciated!!!
Im really glad you are recognising this ❤❤❤
That's so great you figured out what was making it so easy for that room to get hoarded! It's always nice to get some insight into our recurring behaviors 💜
I would put one shelf on the other so you have less surface to drop stuff on and more vertical storage.
That's a good idea. That would open up space for a drop zone next to the shelves that can be addressed on Follow Through Friday.
I'd put a quite big trash can in the new open space so the trash can go directly there
Thought: put the decorative pieces on a lower shelf so the top can be dump and go bins to be delt with on follow thru friday
Love the open bins on top of the shelf idea. Also having a spot to put all of your jewelry making area ❤🎉 your doing so great 😃
😊 Amazing video 👏 Thank you for sharing ❤️
Fantastic work!🥳👏👏👏👏👏 🦄 Could you put that painting up in your laundry room for now? It might help you to think of the laundry room as part of the house. Consider carefully, though, if the sun will hit it and fade it over time.
Pepper seamed to enjoy the goattrail 😂 but god job clearing that much out!
I felt that "i don't know..." deep in my soul ❤❤
This looks much better!! Today I was organizing my house a bit... but also with baby steps...🎉
Hi, hope you're well and happy. Hope your son is out of the hospital and on the road to recovery. Xxx
Fantastic job beautiful lady looks Great did a few small spaces my self today felt like a big accomplishment 💜🦄
When are you getting back in the basement and are you going to do a attic? Declutter series
Great job…..😊❤️
Wow!
Incredible job!
Nice
you did a great job and i'm glad your gaining insight that will be helpful!! you've come so far ❤
Inspiring as always!
Good job!
Can't wait for the next part! You're my inspiration :)
Looks like a cat trail to me. 😄
Awesome video! Very motivating to get to process every with you. 💙
Yo just started Follow Thru Friday I think that habit will help towards keeping this area clear. Give it time.
You can clear that bathroom quickly by flattening those random
Bags into one of those organizers you already have and getting the cardboard out. Getting the Cardboard boxes to recycling seem to be one of your Achilles heels. Mine is paper. I have papers in random places. I’m trying to confine them then shred once dealt with but it’s a challenge.
You are doing a great job.
Great work ❤
That was a huge baby for your baby step decluttering. Declutters often speak of having several containers: belongs somewhere else, recycle, needs regifting. So maybe a 3 bins for that laundry area. When they get full or overflow set up a take it there now to process the bin contents. Then sort of like today’s video only try not to let it get goat trail overwhelming.
It's a safe space
I was going to suggest for you to repaint or decorate the laundry area to encourage and inspire you to keep it tidy... but then when i saw your beautiful beach decorations, I thought... Why dont you make it a beach theme in there? ❤ We're not promised a tomorrow enjoy your beautiful beach aesthetic today!❤❤❤🎉
I'm the opposite and get overwhelmed when things don't have a place. I have a small basket that I keep my junk journal supplies in that I can move around.
Vertical bookcases to the ceiling, with doors, will be so useful in that space. Ikea have the Billy bookcases with doors.
Hello from Germany, hi miss heart and miow pepper ❤🎉. Good job 🤗🍀
Great job
I've been with you since you held your phone in front of your face then wore the mask & sun glasses You've come a long way and doing great keep it up and you'll get were you want to be i have faith in you and i know you can do it even tho it maybe hard at time's you have your family to help you and you have us here for you too no matter what it is you need to talk about or share with us we'll have your back
Empty reusable bags: food banks, schools with food pantry, and charity places will often love having gently used ones for others to now use.
259th bag 🤣
I would buy closed storage/shelving with doors that’s much higher and maybe also has drawers included
❤❤❤
I’m gonna bet you won’t ever miss the picture if you decluttered it.
❤😊
Are you a crocheter? I saw a skein of chunky yarn. Great video!
