    In the 19th century the super-wealth had huge homes in New York City (and Newport Rhode Island) that dominated city blocks with unrestrained opulence.
    Very little of the post Civil War, Gilded Age, survives to this day. The Vanderbilt Gate, now the entrance to the Central Park Conservancy Gardens, is the only bit of what was once the largest private home in the United States.
