This is such a brilliant scene, amps the suspense and tension to the maximum, yet nothing actually happens. Just a little incident to build the paranoia, fear and confusion. Kazunori Ito wrote the whole screenplay and man did he think it all out, such a great plot.
Damn, Patlabor 2 came out in the '90s... then 9/11. There's a lot of themes in it that parallel in a way to 9/11 and its consequences - although I wasn't alive when the attack happened. Either way, cool to know ya watched this movie all the way back then, ancient one
Asia (the song that plays when the JSDF gets deployed to Tokyo) was playing in my head when the Wagner Group mercenaries turned on Moscow a few months ago.
I think it’s just a radar sound. Or trying to replicate it. Just google faint radar noise or something like that I think.. it’s really brilliant and used so well in this song I’ve got to say!
@@papamike88 I've been watching some audio engineering videos over the past month and it never ceases to amaze me how often every day assets get used as instruments. They just get reworked in post and boom, you have an amazing sound.
The 2002 version the best (remastered) version available. The wyvern track on the 93 original cd (with the dog on top of the patlabor) is inferior quality.
- Priest, this is Trevor. You're clear to fire. Kill Wyvern
- Trevor, say again?
- I say again: Kill Wyvern.....
-.... Roger.... Kill..Wyvern
sorry for necroposting, but its trebor, not trevor
No joy, negative contact. I say again, no joy.

Not a single shot was fired yet it remains an intense hair raising sequence in the whole movie and conveys a sense of helplessness
almost same position! same altitude!

"Impossible!"
One of the most epic action soundtracks ever
Kawai's unmistakable style. I'd know it anywhere.

Trebor, this is Wizard 03. Now maintaining angel 32.
この音楽を聴くと劇中のシーンが思い出されます
Darndest thing. This is the music that was playing in my head during the September 11th attacks. It was intense.
Totally fucking true. WW3

Same here

beautiful
i love that distant gong effect, its similar to the one in those who fight in ff7 and many other songs. wonder what it's actually called?

007 Golden Eye and Eric Serra The Fifth Element soundtrack use it heavily.
it's a sonar ping
Actually it's a hammer fall. It's one of the most popular industrial effects used a lot in the 90's.

Heck, this was posted 11 years ago but would you happen to have the 2002 versions of Portent and Outbreak?
I was thinking about this during the first scene on Mission Impossible 8
Bogey dope.

I have seen this scene so many times that I know exactly what this says, and I barely know a word of Japanese.
thank you

Wizard 03, how about contact?...
Where did you find the 2002 version of the soundtrack? I can't find it anywhere online.

The older one is definently more intense and I prefer it. However, this new one fits the movie better.
If Hollywood remade this scene Wyvern would have been killed.
