That’s perfect. I used an old snowmobile trailer for mine. Extended the hitch with some scrap sign post material (very strong). Tilting bed is helpful in certain situations as well. Nice job
Just planning to build something like this, so this is a real inspiration! I hadn't thought of using timber supports for the canoe, so that's a great idea. I guess the real challenge is welding the metal extension sections on and I had hoped I might be able to bolt something in place with metal pieces made for me at a local metal founding place. Thanks for posting your project.
Nice set up! I have been looking to do something like this for years to my harbor freight 40"x48" trailer. What kind of a tongue would i ask for? Guessing it is a 2" wide. (14 ft of course) but the grade/ thickness of the tongue would be? And just go to the local metal shop? Thanks
yeah, I thought about bolting it on, but it's so much stronger welded. plus I step on it from time to time to pull up the canoe so it needs to be strong.
I just found this video....was curious if the hubs held up ok after years of usage and how fast have you towed? Thanks...I may have to make one of these if its held up well
Hubs seemed to hold up pretty well. I haven't used it much in the last year because I got a jon boat but I still keep it around because of its convenience . I've taken on the interstate no problem. It has highway rated tires on it though.
skelleytim Yes indeed! My back and shoulders both have thanked me thus far, lol. Hope you're doing well and are able to enjoy some outdoor time, even with all that's going on right now. Looking forward to a good summer.

Great trailer ! I want to do this for my old town square stern canoe thanks for doing a vid
I have a 16 ft canoe that iv been looking to make a diy trailer for. I think you have given me my solution.
I still use this set up. Its served me well.

It's been great! It's even nice for ponds and rivers. Loads real easy.

Do you have plans for this? I just got this trailer today and this is the same canoe I have also
What size motor you have on that canoe? That looks like a great idea
I had a 3hp outboard. It would push it around 11mph.
How did you mount your taillights did you weld ?
that's great! I still use mine all the time. glad I could be of some help. I tried your link but it didn't work.

How far back is the upright from the hitch
Great job! I want one for my canoe. How much would you charge to build one? Thanks!
I've never really thought about building them for people. It wasn't hard to do. I dont remember spending that much money on it either.
skelleytim Thabks! I ended up buying and building a Harbor Freight trailer. Working great so far!
@@videosarefunandstuff that's great! Easy to put together and saves a lot of back strain loading and unloading the canoe.

Very nice set up / need a standing platform on tongue though.
N9TUZ zbat thanks. Yeah a platfrom would be nice. Trailer has served me well putting the canoe into lakes and ponds. Ive put a crank on the front now.
Is the tongue a total of 14 feet?
What is the length of your boards? Thanks.
I'm guessing around 12'. canoe is 17'. I just used what I had laying around.
+skelleytim Is the tongue 14' from the front of the trailer bed? Thanks.
+John Corey no, the 14' is the whole length of that beam. it goes to the middle of the square part in the back.
