My friend was there for about a year and never talked about his experiences. I would drive from London to visit him. He is dead now but this video has brought back memories of him and made me weep. RIP Edward - a true friend to me.
Surprised to find that almost all of the comments on here are from ex cons. I was an officer at HMP Blundeston from 1996 - 2011, and they were the best years of my working life. The camaraderie between the staff was like nothing I’ve experienced anywhere else, and it really did make it a great place to work. Working in a Prison is NOTHING like serving a sentence in a Prison, despite some prisoners belief that it was. We got to go home at the end of the day after all. I met many truly dangerous, evil people at Blundeston, but I think it’s only right to point out that I also met many more who were pleasant, respectful and friendly. As Blundeston was an ‘overflow’ Prison for the London area, we had prisoners from quite literally all over the world, some of whom had been caught bringing drugs into any one of the major London airports. There are good and bad in every race, religion and society, and I’m a firm believer that sometimes good people do bad things, often forced into committing crimes as an absolute last resort. Finally I would like to point out that, regardless of what the media reports, being in Prison is NOT like a hotel. The prisoners have lost their liberty, the food is ok but definitely not great, and the living conditions are pretty bad. I spent the last few years of my career working on the Therapeutic Community, helping a small number of prisoners look at how and why they ended up in prison, and what they needed to change to ensure they didn’t return. It was without doubt the most rewarding time I spent in HMPS, and if any of you have any questions about HMP Blundeston, I’d be happy to try to answer them for you.
Just because we leave prison… Doesn’t necessarily mean prison leaves us. The fact that I instantly recognised the pictures of J-Wing… And could also easily remember and identify my old cell as well as others. Granted that staff didn’t serve time and got to go home at the end of the shift unlike prisoners. But on the flipside when I was released from prison… Sitting in my office in Bank, London in 2012 I became aware of the prison being closed down, I began to search for ex Staff for Blundesten … Finding many out of jobs and looking for work. For us ex convicts it just serves as a reminder that the line between good and bad is very thin… And that even though prison is a part of us, it doesn’t have to dictate your future. Still… Would still love to know what in particular got the prison shutdown? I heard rumours but never saw anything confirmed?

Could use the library as the person running it had sex with one of the prisoners so it was closed for ages.
Bamboo Monkey I swear that was around 2011-ish... I remember one madness kicked off on Bond Street right by staid and the gym. One guy got shanked in his eyeball, proper hung out of his eye socket... I will never forget that day 😂💀
Even watching this is depressing imagine all them prisoners who must have been locked up here through the years they must have went through hell you rather die with a heartattack then be sent to somewhere like this an be caged up like an animal its truly a dogs life inside
Didn’t know it had closed down , nearly went there on my sentence great vid son well don’t extremely interesting
I was there in 1990 serving 9 years mad seeing this
wow, i was in here, started off on f wing in a 4 man cell then got moved upstairs to a 2 man cell and then eventually ended up on c wing where i was the cleaner on the 2nd floor, it looks a lot more depressing than it actually was. Well maybe
That's so interesting to hear that! Yup It does, it's sad isn't it :(
frazer bond I was on f wing too ! Way back in 92 I was in a 2 man cell on the 2s
frazer bond I work in the paper shop
i didnt like f wing and sharing cells much prefured it when i got on c wing. I was a cleaner which on c wing was good cause you were out of your cell most of the day but wasnt the most pleasant, because it was slop out and there was always shit all over the toilets!! But i hope life turned out better for you jason after you left
It was all about single cell bang up, although i hated the night san system.
The music is incredibly evocative.
its a sad and depressing video with that crap playing.
It’s only music, calm it Kermit 😂
@@brianedwards9080 it is sad and depressing because you are a depressed individual not because the music is depressing.
@@brianedwards9080 That is only you who is depressive, get some pills from your doc
That paper means he was on the ones paid 08.
I've just seen my old cell. Double glazing.
My mate did time here, he was reggie"s boy. He said the food was horrible, but he did enjoy a good toad in the hole every now and again.
Sucking him off

@@terrencesimpson3910 Remember the food being OK but did'nt stay long gpt transfered to Parkhurst and spent the whole sentence in various dispersals-Don't plan going back, hope same for you.👍

The dramatic music is a bit over powering Lol!😂
When's it gonna stop this Kray thing? You Brits love a villian that's ok! Except they weren't villians. Never pulled a top shelf job cut and killed to keep folk in fear. Snappy dresser's sure. If they grew up in Ireland there life would have been very different in the sixties in Ireland it took more than a sharp suit to impress.
This is the ideal 👌 place for the immigrants, and you can't argue with that 😉
Does anybody remember mr gadge
Infamous north end London gangster Reggie McCray done time in that penitentiary
Norbert Albertz. It's Reg Kray not McCray ,he was from the east end of London ,died in 2000 after he was released on compassionate grounds he lived for 3 weeks after 32 Yrs in prison.
Wrong !! Reg was realesed in August 2000 and died October 1st 2000 so he was free 8 weeks not fucking 3!! Prick k k k
8 , ok ,and don't get so upset .Did you know Reg n Ron were getting clipped if they got a not guilty in 69? Fred Foreman said that
@@beakycole9211 and its east London not exesses div
Norbert Albertz it was Ritchie Klay and he had 2 brothers (Charlie and Ralphie) who were also in this very jail together back in 1969 when they done the double murders of Terry 'Wears a Cap' Kipling and Jack 'The Twat' McVitie in 1973.
They was from Bethnal Wood estate in Roehampton in London E1. (West London).
Their mum and dad were Annie 'CutYerHeadOff' Kayl (neé Frobisher) and Alby Boy 'GoodFella' Kaly.
My mother's primary school teacher, well her old milkman, he knew the whole family and he ain't got nothing bad to say about em.
As long as you stayed out of their way and you also had to put £2 in old money (40'- shillings in old pence approximately) into their Auntie Shirley 'ShirleyGirl' Hedges GPO Post Office Savings account at the post office on Osborne Street off Whitechapel High Street, every Friday.
keep your fuckin camera still so people can watch it
Nice building and history, bad filming
Bet reggie kray done some bumming in there
