I think when an old boat changes hands you can end up with totally new crew that don't know the quirks of the vessel which can spell trouble, some might call that unlucky.
Look at the registries on old liners and similar. They start out the pride of the fleet and work their way down to working wrecks and frequently changing hands. Sooner or later something is going to happen as maintenance which increases with age eventually outweighs profitability.
Absolutely. Changing the letters on the side of a ship will not make it more prone to sinking. A crew member who maybe didn’t know that X factor that sometimes causes that one particular hatch to sometimes pop open, now that’s bad luck.
It's been in the water so long it would be structurally unstable The vessel is easy enough to access so it would be a dumb and expensive idea to lift it
Wondering if that's how Chevy came up with there advertising slogan (Like A Rock) hopefully the guy had insurance and took the money and bought a new Ford model A
Thank you Chinese freighters, for bringing us those lovely zebra muscles in your dumped water ballast. Soon, every well-preserved shipwreck in the great lakes will be destroyed.
Also aboard the ship at the time of its loss were over 100 head of cattle. Presumably some of the bones of these animals are still present within the hull.
Because it belongs to a historical event and is pulled from a shipwreck, the value goes up. It's like a gold bar found in a wreck, it's metal value stays the same, but the value of the bar goes up if it can be tied to some famous wreck, pirate or event. A coin found on a beach might be worth some money, but the same coin found on the Queen Anne's Revenge, would be worth a whole hell of a lot more.
@Walker It's just a concept. Either way, Great Lakes shipwrecks aren't generally allowed to be looted/salvaged of equipment unless they have special permission, although I might have it wrong for this region.

Cris, Your passion about the wreck and maritime history is so blessed. I hope my words find you. Keith
Chris Kohl did a tremendous job in detailing this story. It comes to life with his content.

The story of shipwrecks are so intriguing especially the great lakes
Excellent story and presentation. The guest's passion for shipwrecks is inspirational. Thank you.

Or, just purchased to be sunk, for insurance monies.

Awesome guy to listen to. Full of knowledge
The guest was really fun to listen to. Great story
freshwater wrecks are so well preserved they look like they could be raised and recommissioned almost
I'm sure some of them could be, given enough money
I renamed my boat “plan b” after my divorce 11 years ago and she’s still floating.. takes me and my kids up and down the pacific coast..
I googled it. The ship had 115 cows on board. They think they all shifted towards the stern, causing the sinking.
Why didn't he mention that, then??
Wow that sounds like a fun dive to go and explore!
Took my Chevy to levy 93 years ago. I want my car back, Cris!
Dirk Pitt will retrieve and restore the car to add to his automotive collection....
He could also get the Packard's off the S S Wisconsin
Those cars are far too common for his tastes.
They don't have the fine coachwork he is fond of.

That depends on the Packards

hell dirk would probably try to raise it and get it going again while adm sandecker stood by and watched..lol
Love the discovery old long lost ships
Sometimes this situation preserves something that would have been scrapped normally, history saved
I wonder if the wreck can be salvageable or at least some pieces of it can be
That skipper looks like the skipper from Gilligan's Island
Here from The Unlucky Tug's "Tugs" video where he showed an article about this sunken ship.
My great grandfather perished on this ship. He was part of the crew.
Cris has a Documentary Narrators voice. 👍

A 1930 Chevrolet on a ship that sank in 1928? It was a 1927 Chevy. LOL

Don't worry, there will be an abundance of plastic to make a replica
If the ship never sank it would have ended up getting dismantled in a breaker yard like so many others we never heard of.
@@terrandroid thats about an ignorant remark
My step cousin fell off a rock foot first onto a zebra mussel and had to get stitches.
The beautiful Highland Lakes in Texas have been infested with them for a few years now. It’s sad to see how far they’ve spread.

"So when you were in port deciding what to do, Why go hunting for this ship?"

Leaving a stern door open in a storm event, could possibly go a long way to changing ones luck! 🙀Just saying!🌈
-As do the screen doors on submarines ;
the car needs to be saved
A perfectly restored 1927 Chevy 2 door 2 seater coupe is only about $25k to $30k at the very most. Definitely not worth bringing up.
