This is my holy grail pen. One day, one day... I cannot care about the look of a pen, as long as it writes nicely, and for me, nicely means with some kind of bounce, like the Diplomat Magnum does, but with a more reasonably sized section that does not make me feel that I am actually writing with the feather of a goose. The sober design of the Falcon is conceived to not distract from the nib, but rather to direct the attention toward it, with the rings and clip being the same gold color and the polished body drawing horizontal lines of reflected light toward the nib. Absolutely gorgeous.
Very nicely, put. I appreciate the design more already:) I haven't used a Diplomat Magnum, so I can't compare. I've seen the Falcons come up on the pre-owned market for a reasonable price. Unless you're only interested in buying new.
I love my Falcon. Initially, many things bothered me about this pen, but after writing with other steel nibbed pens I grew to appreciate the Falcon more. I especially like reverse writing with it.
It totally grew on me over the course of like a week. Now it’s my absolute fav! Still curious if I can put the nib on another pen body though. I’m not into “classic” design.
"It's breaking me in...." LOL!! Literally every fountain pen I add to my collection. Pen to me: "I will not be the pen you want until YOU LEARN TO WRITE MY WAY!"
Haha, yep exactly! Probably often when people say it took some time to break in my new pen or new grind it's more like we as users, are the ones that get broken in... haha.
I own the metal version of this pen and it is indeed a very nice writer, but indeed only lightly soft, I own FA nibs (10 and 15) with upgraded ebonite feeds and they are much softer (the no 15 needs some "breaking in" in my view). But I'd love to get the falcon to be more flexible and I find your grind interesting but mostly pushing the flexibility would be on top of my list. Not having access to a nibmeister (plus I grind my nibs myself I seldom need one) I am not sure how to touch a nib to make it more flexible. Any suggestion or reference?
You would have two tasks ahead of you to get it to perform well. One adding flex and two increasing the ink flow sufficiently to keep up with any amount of flex that has been added. Though there may not be a nibmeister near you, you can mail it to them to have the work done, as in this case I had done. More often than not when I request work to be done by a nibmeister it's by mail and then on occasion I have the opportunity to have work done in person at a Pen Show. My understanding is one way to add flex is by "thinning the tines." When nibmeisters create a custom pen using stock nibs often they also elongate the shape of the tines, extend the slit, customize the breather hole, add additional slits of even cut outs in the sides.
@@fountainPENdulum I live in Switzerland and I have not yet encountered an opportunity to go to a close pen show or find any nibmeister, let alone in my area. I suspected as much about the elongation of the nib which is a very different ball game than simply grinding the tip, elongated means reshaping the gold and having to deal with metal stresses that the process will incur to the nib, unfortunately this is a skill more overlapping with jewelry than anything else... well above my league :)
Elongation of the nib in measure could be accomplished by grinding down and narrowing the shoulders of the nib in order to "elongate" the nib tines- just a thought. Thin and narrow makes more bounce like a diving board, as long as there is resilience in the material for some bounce back. I'm not a nib meister, but just sayin' if I was gonna play around with some nibs those are designs I've seen successfully executed by others!
@antihero1980 certain Nib Specialist offer this modification. You can contact them directly to arrange to have your pen sent to them for the modification or get drop off the pen with them in person at a Pen Show.
Wow! I mean wow, what a fantastic nib. Really adds character to your writing even without flexing. At this point I've basically given up on all Japanese converters. I have started to think whether it's better to use cartridges with Japanese pens, because I have also started using a syringe to fill the converters of my Japanese pens. I just cleaned out a Custom 74, with a Noodler's Ink no less, and I have to syringe the Con-70 4 times to get that little ink that is stuck at that step in the converter. I know the Japanese culture prefers C/Cs, not sure but I think they really prefer cartridges, but they need to do something about the converters because all 3 are proprietary equipment. Where did you get that syringe? I have the ones with the flat plunger so ink gets stuck in the nozzle. Can't wait to see your other nibs that just came back .
The best ink Syringes I've found that work specifically well for the Pilot CON-40 style are from Amazon. The flat Syringe Needle is thin enough to be inserted right through one of the metal opening holes in the CON-40 so no waiting and no mess! Link is in my Cleaning Pens Videos. This Syringe however, I purchased from Phidon and Jetpens.com has one very similar! Went to the PNW Pen Show yesterday and fought a small treasure in additon to getting some more nib work done, custom grinds 🙌🏼
@@fountainPENdulum I like that particular syringe because the plunger has the protrusion that would push ink through the nozzle. I checked the ones you said. They are the same ones I have. You went to the PNW show. That's a long way's away. Did you go just for the show?
Check this link from Amazon, I think that's what you're looking for- 1ml Syringe with 23Ga 1.5'' Blunt Needle and Plastic Needle with Cap (Pack of 10) a.co/d/fWhkmNe I'm from the PNW, went back for a visit and it worked out to be there for the pen show!

That's fantastic, it's always a pleasant surprise when a nib is a good reverse writer! Glad you've come to appreciate you Falcon more!

I'm with you 100% on that! I'd like to get housing for it and put it on other pens. Check out flexiblenib.com

jaki według Pani jest najlepszy flex? jaka stalówka?
It seems definitely the vintage!
Sporttowy, I heard the best flex nibs come from vintage waterman fountain pens that happen to have number 2 nibs❤
