4:00 I like that you mentioned captive portal. Even though it's a business feature, we average consumers sometimes use it as well so it's relevant as well.
This is a great channel with a great personality. Liked and SUBSCRIBED. Looking forward to a few hours binge watching this guy. He’s very funny and very smart and also a good teacher.
Thanks, you explained a lot in a short time. So, next time I have guests, instead of giving them my wifi password, it's better to create a guest network for temporary use. By the time I got into my netgear account and was able to figure out how to change the password, there were about 20 unconnected devices listed. I deleted all of them! The only ones allowed were my pc, phone, printer and tv. My neighbors kids kept using my wifi when their mom would cut them off! lol They're my grand-nieces and I had given them the password over a year ago when they came over to sit with my mom while I went shopping. Mom passed away a few months back.
Sorry for your loss! Yes guest wifi can definitely help when you need to create a temporary wifi for your guests / neighbors. Thanks for sharing your story :-)
I have a question: So basically I’m a gamer and need really good internet, but my family members use a lot of the internet and makes me lag, if I set my pc to Guest I can get better network speeds?
First of all, congratulations on the good quality and excellent didactic explanation of the videos. Right now some friends have problems with the asus router certificates when using the asus DDNS, after 3 months it was automatically renewed however since this month it is no longer being renewed can you check on your asus router if you have that problem? Regards from Peru! Mi casa es tu casa!
Hi, thank you so much for watching the videos :-) Unfortunately I don't use the certificate for DDNS to be able to test the auto certificate renewal, however I just tried to get a new certificate but the status is stuck in the "updating" mode! I guess it should change to "Active" at some point, but for some reason it doesn't! I'm not sure if that helps or not! Thanks again :-) Mi casa es tu casa!
Hello Behfor kudos for your excellent work! I have 1 DSL-AC68U as main modem/router and 3 RT-AC68U as nodes and i set it up with Ethernet connection. All good but my Guest Network is on only on main router... and because have cctv, smart home devices, smart tvs and my working pc on my personal network i don't want to give to anyone access on this... How can make my Guest Network to working on my nodes as well? Thanks!!
Do you think its a good idea to add all my Smart Home devices to my Guest Network? I just bought an Asus Blue Cave and enabled the 2.4Ghz Guest Network for my IoT devices but it is bringing down all my WiFi. Any idea why?
I'm curious, would it also be smart to use a guest network for smart devices, such was RGB LED bulbs, smart power plugs, etc? A lot of those devices (especially some from overseas manufacturers) are considered by many to be non-secure. So I can't think of a reason why I would want them on my main network, and not some sort of guest network with unlimited access.
That's a good point. I have a bunch of these "smart" stuffs from overseas that might pose a risk too. Have u tried setting it up with the guest network? Does it still work as usual?
@@justifyer24 so far so good! All of my "smart" devices (including Google homes, Wyze cams, cheap/generic RGB bulbs and smart power plugs) are on my guest network and so far zero issues with them working properly. Very happy and it gives me piece of mind :)
I love your videos! I have trouble with two issues. 1. Connecting to a shared drive that I shared out from my main computer from the other PCs on my network. Windows 10 2. My computer often loses connection to my wireless printer and I have to be reboot the system. I have an Asus router. I would love to see some videos on these two topics.
In making it not have access to the LAN, does this mean it’s on a different subnet? Also, the time the network is created to last (2 hours in your video) does it make that network be “disabled” if you login to the ASUS page next time? So it won’t broadcast the SSID also when the network time runs out? Thanks! Great video perfect amount of time and explanation
There is no fixed number, it would depend on many things such as the capabilities of the router, the type of connected devices , the available bandwidth & ...
Setup my Blue Cave Guest Network for IoT Devices. But i am no longer see these IoT Devices on Network Map page? Is there a way to check what devices actually connected to Guest Network?
I just tested it and I was able to see the guest devices that are connected to my RT-AC68U, but I'm not sure about the Blue Cave because I don't have it and it could be different!
Behfor thanks for your kind help. I am satisfy with Blue Cave performance but i strongly believe there are bugs on the latest firmware. The pre-loaded IPTV setting does not working correctly that caused my VoIP service down. Asus took a month time and finally told me to contact my ISP. I am confidence VoIP is working fine as i have ACRH17 to test and support my finding. High class product no class support.
Hi, there is no certain number, it all depends on how heavily they are gonna be using the network and also other factors such as how congested the wifi is in that area & ... For example while in a network 10 users might be overloading the router, in another network 40 users might not be causing any issue! You can use bandwidth limiter for the guest to make sure they are not using the full bandwidth
@@Behfor thanks fo the info bro the thing that i like about the guest networking is that it can auto generate password and it will be exclusive to 1 mac address right now i have ax55 it can support 3 2.4ghs guts and 3 gues with 5ghs i have a small computer shop and people are now more intersted into mobile gaming so at this moment i have client who are renting my internet for 2 to 5 hours playing browsing at my shop but juat 6 of them who can be given a guest others are waiting for thier turn
I can let them join direct to my rauter and put time limts and limter for bandwith but i problem is if ther are many of them its not like guest mode that i dont have to hasitate to give them my password to rent wifi for 4 hours
Obviously It's a new WiFi and will add a bit of load on the router and also probably a bit of wireless interference, which is normal. All I can say is If you don't need it then don't enable it. Thanks.
Here's a problem: ASUS RT-AC68U Router: 2.4 GHz "Guest" Network: My cameras and WEMO light switches hate it and wont work on it. But, I don't want them to have access to my main 2.4 Ghz network password AND/OR any computers in the house. SO how can I connect my cameras to a NON-Guest 2.4 GHz band and keep them separate them from my INTRANET ?? ASUS cannot answer this. I find it incredible that ASUS have allowed us to set up as many as SIX Guest networks, but only ONE x 2.4 GHZ NON-Guest network. I need TWO x NON-Guest networks so I can assign one to computers and the other to Cameras. Cameras wont work on 5 GHz either, so I cannot use that. Is there any work around ???
Unfortunately you can only have one main SSID for each frequency band, and usually that's the case for every home wireless routers. What you're looking for is usually available in more professional access points and not in home routers. You can however install a 3rd party firmware such as dd-wrt that gives you more professional feature. Just keep in mind though that installing a 3rd party firmware is risky and if something goes wrong can brick the wireless router!
I wonder if anyone could help me. I've been at work & I believe a couple of times I've used the Guest Wifi but only for authenticating a work login and the other x2 times it just automatically connected to it. I'm just worried as I don't like the thought of anyone being able to see my browsing history if they chose to, as it's private. I know anyone that could search for that has better things to be doing with their day lol I was just slightly paranoid about it for some reason. I guess it's public wifi as well so could be hacked? Thanks.
3:30 loved that you clarified that it was you acting as the home owner and the neighbors. I would have never guessed .😅
😂😂😜
