Love to see karate couple along with sweet kid in action.. You performed true performance of karate.. balance and control of actions. Bunkai also good..
Ah, thank you so much for this lovely message! We love being a karate family, and hope we will always be able to enjoy karate together. Thank you for the comment and for watching - always grateful!
Ah, thank you so much! That was such an early video, our production quality was terrible but we are so glad that it has been helpful! Really appreciate the time you have spent watching, and commenting 🙇🏻♀️
Thank you sir, I loved the explanation in practice. As a beginner I didn't understand the meaning of the kata in practice and in a real fight, but you give me a good understanding how to use it in the real world then the dojo. You have a blessed family and I did enjoy to see you and your family in training. I hope to see more video of the kata's in real action. That's the only way to understand what I'm learning. Thanks a lot and blessings to you, your family and dojo. Amen
This is such a beautiful message, and we are so grateful to receive it! We are so lucky to be a karate family, and we hope to train as a family for decades to come. We are slowly working towards doing such advanced bunkai again for all our kata. Thank you for watching, and we hope to see you soon for our next video!

The classic bunkai we can't really argue with is the grab-the-kick, and grab the punch sequence, because we have photo evidence of Chojun Miyagi doing this with Juhatsu Kyoda - therefore it begs the question why do we look one side if that was the bunkai ? I think like all Goju kata there are unstated meanings/variations that the creators of the Kata left clues of within the kata to remind the students of the actual variations which were overtly displayed - and in this case I believe that looking to the side means the opponent is on the side. So, another Bunkai for the kicking while looking sideways sequence - the downward moving arm (for example the right arm) intercepts an incoming punch (Opponent's right arm) by grabbing it and dragging it down to the side, while your body is moving out of the way of the punch, at almost the same time your left hand comes up from the bottom and jams/locks his right elbow - now he's on your right (at about 1:30 to 2 O'Çlock, or about 45 degrees forward-right) and you pull him in while you knee him, and if he tries to avoid the knee - you kick his groin. That's why, I think, some schools look 45 degree rather than 90 degrees to one side. The grab and elbow lock bit of the bunkai we use often in Kakie so it is I think well within the Goju tradition. It's an alternative.
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre Interestingly enough there are several photos of this Saifa bunkai, and some times it's blocking the opponent fr the inside, so you look forward, and sometimes it's blocking the opponent from his outside, so you look sideways. Here are 2 pictures of blocking from the outside, sanchindachi.blogspot.com/2016/11/busaganashi-2.html In fact, now that I revisited this topic, the photo of the young Miyagi doing this Bunkai with Kyoda, had him blocking the kick from the out-side (which is kinda obvious once I looked at it with the topic in mind, but never noted it in the past), so he had to look slightly to the side, but a later photo of him watching his students do the bunkai had the student blocking from the inside www.iogkfmexico.com.mx/historia. This gives us a little insight into how Chojun Miyagi taught Bunkai - the same bit of Kata sequence should be able to deal with more than 1 situation (which was what the oral tradition used to describe Chojun Miyagi's teaching methods). Always nice to revisit old topics and learn new things from it. Thank you.
The karate tought to children comes from Itosu, it is suited for them to learn and gain physical condition. But as adults we are suposed to search into every sequence to extract realistic applications. "Bunkai" means to take appart for analyzing, if you just imitate the movements of kata with a colaborating partner, where is your analysis?
Love bunkai? Let us know which kata you'd love to see bunkai for, and we'll work towards filming it!
Kururunfa, of course!
Beautiful, vicious kururunfa! We will make it so :3
And sepai, please! 😊

So that's the famous photo!
Lots to think about here, going to see if I can work out this bunkai.
Such great insight, thank you!

This is why research and self-study is so important, especially after black belt.
