    I did this same install on my father in laws old (2011ish i think) Street bob. Glad I didn't have the issue with the brake rod breaking off. Maybe I got luck with him doing this upgrade within the first year of him owning the bike and he bought it new. Nice video. He had to do the forwards so he would stop getting his pant leg caught every time he went to put his feet down at a stop.

      @Jmac7o7  5 лет назад

      Yeah bro, this is a much needed upgrade from mids. You guys got lucky with the brake rod not snapping on you, I read up on it and it’s actually a common issue from the factory. Cheers brotha 🍻🍻

    I had forwards on my super glide. I couldn’t take it anymore as I felt too vulnerable. Mids was my way to go, not everybody’s. Enjoy the forwards

      Definitely a different feeling. When I go through the curves mids are the way to go for sure but I’ve really enjoyed these forwards. Cheers brotha 🤙🏽 keep the shiny side up

      I believe I had to replace the brake rod and the rear master cylinder plunger. Easy to replace and fairly inexpensive. Hope this helps

    So this should be the same process for my 08 dyna super glide? I was reading where someone said you have to take part of the engine apart or the cover for the transmission to get forward controls installed and I haven't messed with it because I thought it was going to involve alot more than this.

    So, what did you do with the shift shaft that is poking out of your primary cover with the other linkage arm flopping around in the back of the primary cover.??

    • @Jmac7o7
      @Jmac7o7  2 года назад

      Just left it. I tested out leaving it a couple days and checked to see if it was going to flop around and mess anything up but it just sits there. Basically the end that you attach the foot shifter to sits flush with the outer primary. Doesn’t flop around and scratch anything so I just left it. Still just chillin. Plus if it ever needs to be put back to mids that’s just one less step for the next guy.

    I removed my forward controls on my 09 superglide and installed mids. Is it normal to have in and out movement on the shaft that goes through the primary cover?

    • @Jmac7o7
      @Jmac7o7  4 года назад

      Yes, but not a ton. Do you have the small rubber part that goes on the rod between the shifter and primary?

    • @timcone1717
      @timcone1717 4 года назад

      No

    • @Jmac7o7
      @Jmac7o7  4 года назад

      Tim Cone there should be a small rubber piece that goes there to take up the extra slack. It’s about a quarter inch long. That is what you butt up to with the shifter lever.

    Thank harley for how this isnt gonna work according to harley davidson dealerships . Looks like ur gear selector will be inside od ur crash bar hows that gonna work beother ,for example h.d makes a chin faring for sportsters and they swear that this chin faring will not work with a oem crash bar which are both there products oem at that and they say it wont work but i have both installed on my sportser right now as we speak lol they also told me oem miniboards would fit if u had mid controls on the sportster model,that they only work with forward controls wro g agin i installed them with zero issues

      The sad thing is that most of the people that Harley hires don’t have any real knowledge on any of the bikes. They might guess and give you bad info OR better yet, tell you they don’t know. Which would be a better answer then a guess. I’m not saying none of them have knowledge but at the same time they probably don’t have knowledge of older models that don’t come with a spec sheet 🤣 a ton of stuff is universal for a lot of harleys, you just gotta know your shit and trust your gut. Thanks for watching and throwing your input out there brotha. Much appreciated! Keep the rubber side down my dude 🤘🏽

    Hey so factory tells you to remove inner and outer primary remove mid shaft and lever.
    What did you do with old shaft and hardware going thru primary. Zip tie?

    • @johnsmith-qm1mr
      @johnsmith-qm1mr 5 лет назад

      This definitely is easier

    • @Jmac7o7
      @Jmac7o7  5 лет назад +1

      Right now since I don’t have a plug for the inner and out primary I left the shift linkage inside it. It can just be tucked behind the inner primary until you have the time to remove the inner and outer primary. I’ve already put on a few hundred miles on my bike since the switch to forwards with no issues. I will be removing the shift linkage soon tho.

      @@Jmac7o7 id leave it if no issue, you every sell the bike and they want mids they got them. I just bought 2017 street Bob and an considering switching back to the further forward mids.

    • @Jmac7o7
      @Jmac7o7  5 лет назад

      john smith true, it would make it so much easier to switch to the mids or further forward mids if I sold it or got tired of forwards. Definitely worth thinking about. I may just leave it now that you mention it.
